Traded Cameron McCarthy [traded to Fremantle with picks 7, 33 and 71 for pick 3]

Well no. He's worth less now but you traded your second for a guy who hasn't played for you, and GWS won't take a third. So it looks like whatever high pick you get you will have to use (with something coming back the other way) if you want him.

They may not...he's handy, no doubt, but is he worth more than the potential from Josh Battle or Seton-Petrovski?

Freo won't come last, so lets assume they have pick 5-6 for arguments sake. That would do the trick flat, maybe with GWS giving a 2nd rounder in return or even Geelong's future first they aquired last year. Trade should be done this year, at least this year Freo have currency worth something to GWS, rather than attempting to get him for a packet of chips last year.

Is he? Who knows how he'll return

He's more a third tall as opposed to a Hogan/Cameron type

To a degree yes, but beggars can't be choosers so to speak. I do feel he isn't that power forward you need, and if I were you I'd be going harder at Hogan.

No, because they represent hope. So it's a bit tricky for you.

I don't think so.
They've got a player that wants to return home who hasn't played for a year. His value has dropped.
We may have a pick more than his current worth and of much greater value to us.

They may prefer to looks to a trade to the Eagles...that's life

Well that's an option certainly...

You have to ask, will it work, doubtful. Hogan is the perfect one, you actually have a few of these 2nd forwards and they are easier to draft anyway. Power forwards are worth so much, you won't be near a flag without one. At least this year you have assets to trade. That is the positive.

Given our injuries I wouldn't be sure about that

Just can't see you finishing below Brisbane, Carlton, Essendon at least. Would be shocked if Port finish above you as well. That gives pick 5. Just a rough guess though.

I still think it was the right move, even with hindsight. It sent a message to players that they will not be leaving under contract. And TBH, they're not gonna be short on picks.
I think it turned out the opposite. Now it has backfired I think that GWS would be less likely to do the same thing again. So a player would be confident of getting his way.

If Hogan has expressed the strong desire to leave for home, and we have a top five pick, the Eagles can't better that unless they trade a high class player, so something like our next two first rounders may do the job.

Well it's tricky if you want him. Agree with the bolded but you also have a good chance to get the KPF you are crying out for.

Mate we're shocking.
No Fyfe, Johnson, Sandilands or Bennell for at least the next 8-10 weeks...we're done
Our next few weeks are going to be horrible.

It will be very interesting the way it plays out. I maintain GWS were correct last year. The selections were nowhere near good enough last year. This year is different.

I know you are playing poorly, I don't see you having trouble beating the sides I have listed. Brisbane, Essendon and Port are just as bad. Did you not watch Essendon yesterday? They were that bad it made Freo look like Hawthorn!

Yeah except he's worth less and the pick we may have is much higher..
If we were to have say pick 10 then 10 for McCarthy and their second would be about right.
A top 5 pick gives the chance of a Schache/Weitering type.
We haven't had one since Pav due to building our shit midfield when we took Hill and Morabito

Port are healthy, and the way we're playing we're no guarantee to beat anyone, especially now with Fyfe and Johnson gone

A top 5 pick is no guarantee, Morabito from you guys, Gumbleton, etc. The list goes on. Give me a guaranteed player rather than what is a gamble on a selection any day of the week. Within reason of course you don't want to trade every selection.

Port are barely doing anything, that could be the ultimate shocking game when that comes around.

To a degree.
Hogan yes...McCarthy after a year out of the game with mental health issues, not so much

Yeah, I'm siding with you on this one. The team just lost to Carlton and have lost Fyfe for the foreseeable future. I'm sure there's going to be some 50/50 games against bad teams and they'll knock over some teams who struggle heading west but as it stands currently it's going to be a tough year - and Freo won't be trading a top 4 pick for someone who sat out a year unless it's just for a downgrade to 15 or something... which probably won't be of interest to GWS as it doesn't really get them much other than academy points.

Yeah and we'll be rotating our younguns through, giving them experience.
Can see Pav missing at least 2-3 games. not that he's setting the world on fire anyway.

We did a 6 place pick swap for Bennell, who even with his issues has shown more and has a higher ceiling than Cam.
Something similar might be possible I guess

To a degree but you can't be beggars unless you want to keep playing Tabener next year...KPF's always cost a bit more than you think. I'd be happy giving up a top 5-7 selection, but that is a personal view, happy to disagree there.
