Roast Can anybody explain what benefits Danyle Pearce brings to the team?

I see him as the current day Brett Peake. When others are taking the load and playing well he is very handy to have as that 5/6th mid.

Peake was the same and struggled with us while we struggled, went to St.Kilda and played well because he was that 5/6th mid for them when they had players like Goddard, Dal Santo, Ball, Hayes etc. taking all the heat.

We are pretty crap right now so players like that, who were/are never going to be #1 in a team, are always going to drop off as the pressure gets put on them.

He'll be a handy depth player and I still think he has a few more years in him. He should take a back seat compared to our younger brigade once our injury list lessens/2017.

D.pearce is better than all of them vs essendon.

In different roles. Allow the youngsters to take some responsibility now and for the rest of the season. We're seeing first hand how Blakely is benefiting when he's actually given a role that suits him. Had something like 20 disposals in the second half once he was allowed to play inside the midfield. Weller was only given a spot on the wing in the last quarter and we saw the results there too.

Can't agree more , but we already signed him for 2 years, hope the second year is performance based .

The young guys you mentioned all got consistency issue, but is obvious when they reach 50 games afl experience , will surplus d.pearce. doig medal is based on how many game you plays.i never doubted the players you mention is better than d.pearce when he is young.

Pearce was a bit of a gun as a youngster - he won the AFL rising star award.

Pearce helped lead the charge last year when are tails were up. He will be important again once our stars are back and the youngsters have some more experience.

Early in the first on the rebound he could have drilled a kick inside the corridor to a couple of players wide open outside the 50m arc but instead decided to run backwards then then laterally to switch play (which only put us under more pressure and shut down our forward movement).
This. It made me crazy at the time and for some reason even more so on replay. We had just kicked a goal from a scintillating end to end and the vibe was super up and he does that.
The ball actually ended up practically in the back pocket after he received it on the wing. How in any world is it an advantage to go from the wing to the back pocket? There is an annoying tendency from the older players to revert back to this safety at any cost crap. It was like we were playing for time after kicking 1 goal to go ahead!

I'll get shot down for saying this and I said it a few times last season, but that's been drilled into them in the coaching and it will take time to change. You need structure but you also have to play what's in front of you.

Yeah it's not something unique to Danyle unfortunately.

Yes and again it's only my opinion so I'm not trying to shoot anyone down but in last seasons prelim when we right up Hawks with enough time left on the clock and momentum with us we turn it over to Rioli with two cross field kicks where up the line would've been better.

You know, in years gone by when I complained about the backwards kicks to safe possession I was howled down like I was on crack. It has always had the inevitable consequence of an occasional costly turnover and I have never liked it.

One of the coaches gave Danyle 2 votes for the Fremantle vs Essendon game.
You have got to be shitting me. Was he the coach that recommended the two year signing?

Yeah well I went and checked that stax on the mull wasn't trolling us, and he wasn't! We obviously know nothing.

Fremantle v Essendon
9 Lachie Neale (Frem)
6 David Mundy (Frem)
6 Michael Walters (Frem)
4 Michael Barlow (Frem)
2 Zach Merrett (Ess)
2 Danyle Pearce (Frem)
1 Hayden Crozier (Frem)

Couldn't resist consulting the votes thread and nope, not a single poster gave him so much as 1 vote. Does that mean we all equally have no idea, including his supporters? Maybe Woosha is trolling us?
Yeah, didn't think about Woosh. He clearly understands Danyle's value to the opposition team

We actually train for this.. I have seen Ross going off at players during drills who didnt do it then get called aside and lectured.
You exaggerated about " almost to the back pocket " it actually went to a player outside the 50 arc, however definitely backwards.

Danyle Pearce was decent against Essendon. Again it makes zero sense the level of criticism of him compared to players who perform far worse. Hence no threads "What does Igbo, or Sutcliffe or Barlow offer? 'I will bet anything you like D.Pearce is ahead of plenty of other players who get off scott free on here in the 2016 best and fairest at the moment. Ballaz, Spurr, Sheridan to name a few more. It really is absurd the extent to which D.Pearce gets signalled out by the Bigfooty Freo Board. Anyone what to make a bet that any of the six players I mentioned in this thread are ahead of D.Pearce in s the 2016 Dockers Best and Fairest count coming into this round. Anyone?
