Can Fremantle win the flag?

No. I think this midfield group need to be hardened together for another year or so before we have a look into the top four. I still see Collingwood, Hawthorn and Geelong as a cut above the rest. There are another 3-4 teams on the next level below that. Whether we sit in that 4-8 group or not i'm not sure.

We've had close games against Geelong for the last 3 or 4 years at Subiaco, so nothing to get too excited over really.

I also don't think the Big Footy servers would be able to handle Freo defeating Geelong in a final.

If they do I'll jump off the **** ****

Wouldn't that be just a kick in the nuts for St Kilda?

I don't think they will at this point but I think they will make the eight and really contend for top four. If they keep this style up though, ANYTHING is possible.

I'm actually looking forward to watching Freo play this year, they look mighty exciting.

I want to see how they go sustaining it, that kind of intensity for an entire season.

Our guys always seemed stuffed by years end.

It's not about willing them to fail, I just have my doubts about the toll it takes.

I wouldn't read to too much into their form against Geelong at Subi. Freo usually give us a real crack over there.

Since 2008 we're 3-2 against them at Subi with our 3 wins coming by 1, 19 and 11 points. And in two of those we were lucky to escape with the W as well (In 2011 I thought they outplayed us they were just really wasteful in front of goal & in 2008 Pavlich hit the post inside the last minute).

Still was pretty impressed by their form on Saturday night. They should win enough games at Subi to be in the hunt come September but I'm never sure whether you can trust Freo to be consistent.

I tipped Freo this weekend. Why? Because in recent years, Freo's games against Geelong, at home, are the only games versus a top-4 side that Freo turn up for.

Rnd 2, 2011 - Lost by 11
Rnd 3, 2010 - Won by 7
Rnd 12, 2009 - Lost by 19
Rnd 6, 2008 - Lost by 1

In those years you finished 11th, 6th, 14th and 14th respectively. Don't get too carried away.

Fremantle have put some good lists together over the years. The Pav/Bell/Haze et al sides were as good across the park as any others at the time IMHO

What they lacked was the quality coaching to win all the games they should have. They continually dropped games against poor opponents, and at home.

Maybe they have finally got a coach that can take them all the way.

Depends if their old timers(pavlich sandilands ect) can stay around long enough for morabito fyfe ect to hit top gear. If that happens their a chance

Fremantle have had the list to win a flag for the last 10 years they never just had the right coach or team culture. This could be there time. Their best 22 is pretty good and structurally sound. Morabitto Mundy Barlow still to come in.

This.

Geelong in recent years have had trouble at Subi. We beat them last year then they came back and buried us in the prelim in Vic. Also they only beat us by about 20 points when we won the spoon .

Maybe, but it would take a big effort.

Keep in mind, that wasn't the first time Fremantle have taken it right up to and beaten us at Subi. They almost did it last year, did beat us the year before and in 2008, would've done the same had Pav not hit the post.

However, they play much more poorly at the 'G and I don't think they can run the season out as well as a Geelong, Collingwood or Hawthorn can.

Now let me see, if I analyse all of the games they've played so far I think you'd have to say yes they can and are definitely on track.

Of course one has to consider that there are a few other contenders!

lol no, get to a prelim first

30 point head start 2 free goals from scarlett, some awful misses in the last quarter by geelong players and they only win by 1 goal at home

seriously some people

they have a decent core but don't have a hardened midfield to win a flag just yet

Agreed, won't be aking any judgments until we play a disciplined team that are top 4 material.

To beat the top teams in Melbourne is a big ask , just need a really good season --finish first or second and thay are a chance .

Hayden Crozier and Mellington look likely recruits that will give the forward line xtra force in the second part of the season .

Can't make it any easier to win for ya can we??

Adelaide beat Hawks round 1 last year.. how well did that do for them?

As others said need to win in Melbourne since you can almost bet they will have to play 1 or 2 finals here to even make the Granny..
