Wines and Oliver will jump him the last round, will be so brutal to watch

I think there’s two big games that could play a big factor in whether Bont wins. The first is the port game in SA in the middle of the year. Bont and Libba were both clear best on but it depends who gets the three votes.

Then there’s the dons game this year. Wright was clear BOG and Draper was good too but if Bont was also very good and if he can snag 2 votes that’s huge as well.

I can see Oliver beating him at the death… inspiring the Bont to turn it on in the Grand Final to make it blatantly clear to everyone he’s the best in the game.

This! Let Melbourne have the individuals award, we will take the team prize.

He does have a bunch of three vote games, but not many ones or twos and the other contenders have a bunch of them I think.

I wasn’t worried about Wines, thought it was between Oliver and Bont with Steele next, but did a review last night for punting purposes and Wines will come home with a wet sail. I understand why he’s favourite now.

I think Bont needs to squeak out a couple of 2s and 1s that are not really supported by the stats or the game result but he gets the nod from the umps due to his profile. Essendon loss he could get votes, might be the difference.

Don’t be surprised if Petracca and Walsh get closer than the bookies think - could be the most players ever above 25 votes imo.

If he can snag a vote v. Essendon he’ll win. Otherwise we need some KOTD Chris Judd, Gary Ablett votes one the Adelaide game.

Starred in many games but also had to many "meh" games too. Jack Macrae and Libba will take votes.

Got a feeling one of the Melbourne guys will win it.

If Jack Steele wins I'll spew. He is so vanilla.

It could be the Essendon game Wright gets the 3, Parish 2 and Bont needs to get the 1 in front of Merrett. It maybe the difference.

It's staggering that the media is happy to talk up multiple Melboune Brownlow chances - Oliver, Petracca and Gawn - but can't see their way clear to discuss any Bulldogs player beyond Bont.

Macrae is a red hot chance. An outstanding year and a proven vote getter. Overlooked yet again.

20-25 votes max in a year you’ll need over 30 to win. Love Macrae but he’s not winning it this year.

Gawn no chance, not sure who’s talking his chances up.

The AFL Brownlow Tracker awards a 3-2-1 on every game. They have Oliver winning on 34, from Bont 32 and Steele 29.

Curiously, they have bookies favourite Wines well outside of the top 10.

Not worth a Brownlow year, but Steele is far from vanilla. He’s an absolute gun.

I really don't rate the Brownlow at all. It's a silly award. The coaches association awards should be held in higher esteem than the Brownlow. More than happy for our players to never win it.
I can’t think of another sport in the world where they would let umpires decide the most prestigious award. It’s quirky for sure.

So 14 of our players are attending the count in person (only 5 Dees, and a smattering of WCE, Eagles, P.Cripps and a few other WA-origin players home on breaks from other clubs, and some Crows and Port players). Presumably some of our officials will be in the room? Bitter-sweet if Granty is sitting there and Bont wins.

Ladies and Gentlemen I give you Brad Scott :D

If he doesn't, it'll be as a consequence of the team trading short term success late in the season for a full on tilt at a premiership.

Regardless of the Bonts favouritism. Im not sure that it'll be enough to get me to tune in for a TV event that is the most turgid viewing experience one can imagine*.

*Second only to the Sunday Football Show on 9.

Will come down to if he polls in the Essendon game. If he does I can see a draw between him and Oliver. That would be the AFL’s dream given they would then square off in a GF a few days later!

It really is bizarre when you think about it.

We spend all year abusing the umpires and telling everyone who will listen that the umpires have no idea and no grasp of the basic fundamentals of our great game.

Then, GF week rolls around and we hold our collective breaths to see who these same people will anoint as the best player (midfielder) of the season.
