It used to be different. Many decades ago there was 1 person voting rather than a committee of 3 and votes weren't disclosed match by match, so individual votes weren't so heavily scrutinised.The problem with medals like this and coaches trophy, not that they are bad, it's just mostly midfielders reward. Bring back Wynd.
Committees and relentless scrutiny will lead to safe choices - the guys who got heaps of touches.
Used to lead to much less predictable results. Back pockets (Hardie), flankers (Murray), key forwards (Templeton, Quinlan, Lockett), wingers (Dipper), Rucks (Dempsey, Moore, Round, Thompson, Stynes,Wynd, Moss) - everyone had a shot.
