Carling Cup: Semi -Final First Leg Matches

Good to see they are blowing their collective loads over beating an Arsenal team with it's fair share of kids in the most pointless trophy after the intertoto,

Got this off a Spurs forum. Debunks the myth a bit that Arsenal played their "reserves". I'll admit that leading up to the semis they were playing the youth, but the facts are we still thrashed a very decent (certainly not their best) Arsenal team last night.

Should a gooner try and brush off last night as us beating their 'kids', 'reserves', or some other derogatory term...

1) The average age of the gooners 14 players used was 22.8, for spurs 25.8. So yes they were a little younger.

2) The goon starting XI cost £51m to Spurs £39m. including the 3 subs used this becomes £62m arse to £53m spurs.

3) The 14 players used by spurs have started 279 games between them this season, the gooners 14 have started 214 between them.

4) There were 11 players out of the 14 for Arsenal who have full international caps. Spurs had only 10.

5) The total caps held by the 14 goons is 261 (hardly kids eh!) to spurs 341.

6) 2 players for the goons have won the world cup, thats pretty good for experience.

I disagree with the better team won notion. I thought we were fairly even teams and the only difference between us winning and losing was Cech to Howard. One is great, the other has no confidence.

The keepers are just part of the team though. If everything else is equal the team with the better keeper is the better team surely.

We did play our reserves. Our reserves just happen to be very good (yesterday not withstanding).

Almunia
Sagna Toure Gallas Clichy
Hleb Fabregas Flamini Rosicky
van Persie Adebayor.

Hardly our first team was it?

EDIT: that's not to take away from your performance, which was outstanding.

Arsenal starting XI cost £51m?

Got some figures for that, seems very excessive estimate.

Fabianski 2m ish
Sagna 8m
Gallas -5m
Hoyte Academy
Traore 150k
Hleb 10m
Gilberto 4.5m
Denilson 3.4m
Diaby 2m
Walcott 12m
Bendtner Free

37.05m in total.

Subs,

Mannone Youth
Cesc 2m
Flamini Free
Adebayor 7m
Eduardo 8m

17m

How many of those players have played in the reserves this season and how often? There's more to a first team squad than 11 players.

EDIT - and you can't say Gallas cost you -5m pounds. That is ridiculous.

Not sure where the figures are from. Does looks a bit excessive though.

Going on Ben's figures though it looks like £42m for 10 players plus whatever Gallas was worth. So £51m looks about right.

Cole for Gallas and 5m. Cole was worthless to us, therefore -5m.

And of the first team squad:

Almunia
Sagna Toure Gallas Clichy
Hleb Fabregas Flamini Rosicky
van Persie Adebayor

Lehmann
Senderos
Gilberto
Bendtner
Adebayor

6 of our 16 man first team squad played.

Or, of the 14 last night, 6 were first teamers, and 3 bench players.

we dominated the match at goodison. margin shoulda been much bigger

But that goal they scored was wrongly adjudged to be foul on Cech. There was minimal contact, and it was incidental. 1-1 was a completely different ball game.

haha, a depleted Chelsea team dominated you at your own ground.

created better chances. looked the better team.

you're a joke.

and they were considerably better in the first leg.

enjoy the Carling Cup final son.... hope your team wins.... oh that's right. :D :D

Oh give it up, you arrogant fool. We were not dominated, a depleted chelsea team is still probably worth more than a full strength Everton team, so give it a bloody rest and grow up.

You idiot, he is a Villa man through and through but he stands up for Chelsea, probably because nearly everyone else on here doesn't. Calling him a bandwagoner is just stupid and totally wrong.

Wah wah wah

"Mumm mummy, they .... alll... pick.... on.... the... team ... i ... bandwagon.... for, they're being mean waaaaaaaaaaaaah"

N/T is a bandwagoner through and through. When I first started posting here I thought he was a bloody Man U supporter. Then a Chelsea supporter, then a Villa Supporter..

Everton had more of the ball, but did nothing with it. We looked dangerous on the counter ecspecially with Anelka. Good to see, again, winning a game with most of our starting XI out. One thing, which is a fact, that if Arsenal were to get injuries to a few of thier players, they will flop. Liverpool's, Man Utd's, Arsenal's injury/unavailable list combined is still less than our injuries.

That's why I believe Chelsea is in a very comfortbale position to win the EPL this season (keeping in mind we play all our big matches at home for the remainder of the season). An injury to a Ronaldo, Fabregas or Torres will deeply hurt their respective sides. :)

Geez i know it's only the League Cup but the way some people are going on about things it makes the victory feel pretty sweet.
yep, it's just that jealousy people have towards Chelsea.

it's quite sad.

like those guys who look at you the wrong way because your girlfriend's hotter than theirs.

deal with it people. deal with it. you suck!

Actually its more like those guys who turn up with girlfriends who aren't the hottest, but they are still hot, and then you look across at the guy who has hired a high price call girl and you shake your head.

Torres? Liverpool aren't in the title race anymore. ;)

Imagine if Torres did get injured? Liverpool would finish mid-table.
