Well the only flag we know for sure that was won due to financial irregularities was Essendon in 1993.

Carltons were punished for breaches of the cap in the 2000 and 2001 seasons. No flag was won in those years.

Other clubs were at it too but the AFL wanted to make an example out of us. The rules used to allow you to splash all the cash you want on wages and players.

Besides how can you breach the rules if there actually isn't any to breach in the first place? So unless proven otherwise our flags are clean as far as i'm concerned.

I happy to concede that by finishing 8 after losing most of their games in the second half of the season, Carlton in finishing 8th (overall) performed better than the 9th placed Pies. This was particularly meritorious as they had to find a way to do this while being incapable of beating the Pies in two attempts. I don't blame their supporters for their celebrations. They found a work-around.
