Not disagreeing Nunez.

Al I'm saying is once you start focusing on how good individuals are either on their own or en masse you tend keep looking for them to do great things without the basic things that win you games.

We're not that good that we can start talking about how unstoppable we are because our individuals stack up better against anyone else.

Surely we've seen enough to know they don't all bring it on the same day. Sometimes none of them.
Pretty sure that Nunez in his first post mentioned all of our forwards so not sure how that is talking about individuals.

It's a good forward line for sure . But saying you can't stop them is fanciful and flies in the face of the evidence.
Ultimately it all comes down to our midfield.
Our midfield get the ball forward enough, then our forward line is hard to stop.
When we lose games it is generally when our midfield is comprehensively beaten.

Hey there old Royboy,
I’m not sure, but the current arrangement is strange. I have an adult membership for me and junior membership for little KZ and last night I was able to secure barcodes for two GA seats via the Club App. The thing is that the two seats are allocated to different parts of the ground. Last year I rang the club about this, because obviously I’m not going to plonk an 11 year old in a seat and wander off to sit somewhere else. The response was that they had to allocate a seat to abide by some, either Victorian law or preference that the ticketing company has, but once you are inside you can sit anywhere, which for me means Level 3 Aisle 12, with my son next to me. For this “system” to work, they obviously keep track in real time how many members are digitally claiming their entrance right online and adjust the number of GA seats available to members accordingly. They must also have figured on Lions and Blues supporters who are entitled to a seat claiming one between now and Friday night, hence the claim that it is a sellout.

PS - I wouldn’t just roll up. Generate the barcode for your ticket via the App.
Thanks 3KZ. Yeah we have the barcodes on our phone so all good. I notice today the members have an aisle on level one next to the cheer squad. Be quick everyone. Same as us we have a concession and it is always completely different seats to the adult tickets we have but we have been advised you can sit anywhere

You're Carlton. You put Weitering on Daniher and Saad on Cameron. You're then left with Young on Hipwood (more of an interceptor) and McGovern (also an interceptor) on Gunston. Kemp would have to play on Rayner but he will not outmark Cam or beat him at ground level. You'd then put a two gamer on Bailey.

Against Adelaide, the Crows key forwards had 14 shots on goal. Of their forwards, their lead up marking tall in Fogarty dominated.

What does this all mean?

Their backline - and most backlines - can't stop the number of avenues we have to goal when we get our offensive game going. There is just too much talent for the majority of teams to stop. The only way to beat us is to not let us get entries.
They match up on us fairly well now that you have pointed it out. Think McGovern will have a field day if he's on either Gunston or Hipwood. Saad is decent player and a good match for Charlie, Weitering is a gun and I can see him having a great game against either of our talls and Young is great size and underrated. But this is all on paper. On paper we look to be the best team in the comp. On paper...

I think the biggest issue is that we very rarely get more than 3 forwards playing well in the same game. Hopefully Bailey or McCarthy can step up.

All of this goal of the year stuff is great but one goal is the same as any other goal to me and taking the gloss off individuals and how good they are keeps everyone focused on the end game.

My goodness Scrooge, didn't realise you were a footy fan.

I have 2 vic plus memberships i am not redeeming tickets for so anyone still short let me know

I mean, define playing well. If a player such as Cam last week leads away from packs to create space for the others, has he played well?

While martinson made some odd comments, one I do agree with is that the key to any forward line is teamwork and team first football. We've displayed that in basically every game and extremely well since the Pies game. We need our forwards to play their roles more so than kick bags. The fact that they're all showing they can play roles one week and dominate the next has been key to our victories.

If anything, I am worried about our midfield losing the clearance battle and giving Curnow etc easy leads. If we can avoid that and get the ball forward, our guys will towel their defenders up. It doesn't matter who does, but someone will.

Forgetting all the what ifs or who does what this week is our first real test the result of which will be impactful.

Lose this and not only is our ticker for away games questioned but we slip down the ladder against the better teams and lose a bit of respect imo.

It's not as if the Blues are killing it or are what I class as a genuine contender ,but they're competitive and hard enough to beat when they all fire.

We need to maintain the intensity we've shown for the majority of our games. We're a better all round team than they are . But we have the most to lose out of this if we do. Which we shouldn't.

What were my odd comments ? Just so I know.

I'm not saying they weren't odd ,but don't know which ones.

I remember my great friend Mighty Lions going on about our forward line and how you can't stop them.

Well the truth is they're not that good and you can stop them . They need to play team first footy.

Just found this odd and contrary to what happens on the field both this year and our past for seasons. The biggest difference this year is the forwards are being consistent in their role playing and defensive work. I'd say they've ticked the right boxes in all bar one game.

Could we see a Jaspa debut this week?
That is definitely the rumour that is rampant all over the FB Lions pages - a few are quite adamant Jaspa is debuting on Friday.

I hope not per my post earlier today. Aside from Jared Brennan in his debut game on the big stage, I've never seen a debut player that hasn't been a liability and overawed when debuting on the big stage in a stand alone game. IF we are being honest, Tunstill offered very little against Melbourne in his debut and I just hope we resist debuting Jaspa on Friday night. If he does, of course I want him to do well, but we have enough players with a lot of decent AFL experience that should be selected instead of Jaspa on Friday.

I'd be down for it if they think he's ready. He'd be playing Wilmots role, so as long as he can be as disciplined as Wilmot on the wing he'll be fine.

Ultimately though, would be silly to think this selection will make or break the result.

Carlton will put newman on Cameron. He kept Greene to 5 touches a few weeks back. Leaving saad to roam or take Rayner.

Players that will be missing from our last Carlton encounter.
Robbo, Adams, McStay, Gardiner, Zorko, Rich.

Played last time but may miss or get a call up: Ah Chee, Lyons, Mathieson

Did not play last encounter: Dunkley, Ashcroft, Gunston, Wilmot, McKenna, Payne, Lester (Answerth sub)

OK.

Fair enough. Misunderstanding.

By saying they're not that good it was in response to the assertion that had been made here a few times that they're unstoppable . Not implying in any way they're not good , just that they're not that good that they're unstoppable.

But overall I agree Cameron ,Hipwood and McCarthy in particular are applying an increased level of defensive pressure this year. I don't see it in the others tbh and I'd love to get an Ah Chee or someone of that ilk in there to play a purely defensive role ,but is still capable of taking a big grab and kicking a goal or two.

I know they've been keen to get Fletcher in this year.

It'd would've been surprising if it were this match when we have some experienced reserves in good form ,but where there's smoke.....

So those of us with Melbourne memberships who get a GA ticket - will we get a seat? Tried to ring the Melbourne office today to see if we have an allocated bay for Melb members but their phone kept cutting out and match day info not up as yet on the website.
I was able to download my ticket via my Vic membership tonight. So I reckon you should be good 🙂
