Pretty simple take on the game from me this week. I just want to see 3 things:
1. Can we bring the energy in Zorko's absence? In Round 1 we were basically lifeless. It might be different for a home game where he can get around everyone in the change rooms etc, but you wouldn't expect he'll travel to Melbourne. So it's up to the lads that ARE playing to generate their own excitement.
2. Can we defend with the same discipline we showed last time in Melbourne against the Dogs? With our attack completely dysfunctional it was a super effort by our defence to keep the opposition to only 67.
3. Can we attack with more dare and adventure than we did in Round 3? To me a big part of this is whether our key forwards are able to present up field and make a contest consistently. If they are able to, it will draw Carlton defenders to their vicinity, giving us the opportunity to move the ball by hand and short passes through the corridor. It will also allow our smalls to play the pressure roles intended of them, instead of being expected to be marking targets.
If the answer is "yes" to all these 3 questions, we probably win, but I really think it's one of those games where the way/how well we play is more important than the result.
Think the reference was to the attack in the round 3 game against the dogs. Was our attack really dysfunctional? We scored 115 and all 7 of our main forward players (Daniher, Hipwood, Gunston, Bailey, Rayner, Cameron, McCarthy) all managed a goal or more. Hardly call that dysfunctional.

We kick 90 points i think that will give us a win.
So, 13 or 14 goals is the target.
I think our midfield and forwards can manage that.
I also dont think Grasshopper was saying our forward 6 were deplorable anyway, more the team wide transition into attack was poor giving our forwards little hope.Think the reference was to the attack in the round 3 game against the dogs.
We love Mr. Ripper In the Over 50’s Clique.Listened to the Roar Deal and am convinced by Dom that Cal Ah Chee would be my preference to replace Dan Rich - reasons Dom mentioned - although Jaxon would be my next preference.
In terms of replacing Zorks - Dev is my preference, with Lyons or Matho next in line.
Good to see Mr Ripper's post a few days was quoted comparing who we ve beaten to date b/w 2001 and 2023 - shame they didn't name you Mr Ripper - pretending it may have come from Reddit or BF -c'mon boys - we know you know where it was posted - got to give Mr Ripper the credit hes an icon round these parts.
I don't think that was me - other than highlighting the Carlton round 8 thing...Listened to the Roar Deal and am convinced by Dom that Cal Ah Chee would be my preference to replace Dan Rich - reasons Dom mentioned - although Jaxon would be my next preference.

I think including Lyons helps bolster the midfield, replacing Zorko. McCluggage has been tried there and failed, McCarthy gets the occasional run, but he is better up forward and Rayner can be good, but is also better forward. A inside midfield specialist and prolific ball getter like Lyons really provides a safeguard and makes it unlikely the Carlton mids will get on top. Midfield rotations based around Neale, Dunkley, Lyons and Ashcroft look good.It is such an interesting team announcement tonight, I really hope the match committee take the opportunity to insert some more pace/run both ways players into the side, I'd be very surprised if Jaxon Prior isn't one of the ins. On the other side of it I'd be disappointed if they go with a downgrade in that area of the game and opt for Jarryd Lyons as one of the ins.
I am expecting there to be only the 2 forced changes due to injury, for me >
Ideal ins- Jaxon Prior + anyone of Dev Robertson/James Tunstill/James Madden.
Please no ins- Jarryd Lyons, Rhys Mathieson.
I would like this match up, but I suspect it will be quite tricky to organise. In this situation I suspect Saad more or less dictates by who he goes to... If Carlton are smart about it he goes to someone like Rayner. Then if we put McCarthy to him the best case scenario for us is it creates a ring-a-ring-a-Rosie scenario with 4 players all trying to play on each other. The worst case scenario is that the Carlton player assigned to McCarthy is able to float off and do what he likes. If it pans out that way I unfortunately expect Saad to get 20+ uncontested touches. Rayner wouldn't be able to keep up with him.
I think most likely McCarthy will be on Saad.
In fairness to the club, it was hardly relevant in Round 3 given the small crowd.Havent heard anything yet. Not sure when the club tends to send out stuff but seems absent this year
Yeah mine says GA17. But I'm not sure if these numbers really mean anythingI’m in GA21, if that helps. Got ticket this morning
Yes was referring to Round 3 buttermuffs, when coincidentally the dogs scored 67, the same as Freo on the weekend.Think the reference was to the attack in the round 3 game against the dogs.
Yeah just the way we attacked in general. Static ball movement, up the line to packs of players. The only way we looked likely to score was from ball ups and throw ins, and even there the Bulldogs had the better of things.I also dont think Grasshopper was saying our forward 6 were deplorable anyway, more the team wide transition into attack was poor giving our forwards little hope.
While they are part of that, I think it was more a team wide issue.
Don't mind this. Maybe a Lohmann type to replace Rayner forward.Would rather see Rayner get Zorkos time on the ball.

Cockatoo i like the idea of, does he have his zip back? 10-15 would be a fair few for Rayner but Berry can pick up the slack.Cockatoo for mine. Can run out games now and has been in solid form. Rayner only needs 10-15 CBAs to match Zorko.
Would look at Prior on the wing and Wilmot off half back.
I thought Cockatoo would be a chance if they want a forward that could do a few CBA's or someone else takes up the slack.Cockatoo for mine. Can run out games now and has been in solid form. Rayner only needs 10-15 CBAs to match Zorko.

One would be safe to assume that with comments like these from Fages today Answerth will be one of the inclusions tonight. I wonder if they play him through the middle again. Could he play the Zorko pressure role perhaps?
“I thought Noah did well (against the Dockers),” Fagan said.
“He came on, played a quarter, had seven possessions, made three or four tackles, had a few score involvements … it was very good.
“He did his chances (of being selected this week) no harm.
“He played with a lot of energy, he’s a good tackler, he not frightened of anything – he’s a good young player.
“He’s played a fair bit of senior footy already. It has really only been injury that’s hurt him in the last few years in terms of playing a few more games.”
