Final score - Blues 8.8.56 Cats 10.13.73

My major concerns: Our decision making and skill execution around the ground.
Poor goal kicking - missed gettable shots and put a few out of bounds.
Young & Kemp had shockers. Need defence to stand up in the early rounds with no Weiters.
Positives: Moir looks like a really nice player.
Saady just seems to keep getting better.
Boyd is a beautiful kick. Should take majority of kick ins.

Like that we're playing Cats and Dee's in pre-season. 2 teams that will be tough in 2024.

Just my brief take on it.
Others will cover other positives and negatives.

GO BLUES!!!

First two terms were marred by rust. While they had some youngins in, they also had a number of their movers and shakers who got them going. Third term was the only one we seemed to take seriously, and we benched a number of our own performers to try a few things in the last.

It was intriguing rather than telling. We'll be better for the hitout.

Moir clean but we can't start the season with him and Elijah up forward: Moir will be out of steam in 40 minutes, and Hollands won't be able to get a hand on blokes in a straight sprint.

Interesting to see what our small forward and outside mix will be, because not a lot are putting their hands up right now.

Kemp playing like he knows he's not getting picked at this stage, Young playing like he does

Anyone remember the glory days when we won the Wizard cup and then won the wooden spoon in the same year?

Let's not get too overexcited or too down on 4 quarters of match simulation
We won both pre season games the year we went 2-20. One of the teams we beat was Hawthorn, who finished top 4 that year. It's hardly an indication of how the season goes

Not much to take from a hitout in those conditions

Based purely on that, the fight for fringe positions would be clearer for round 1

Gov Young Newman
Williams Marchbank Saad

Cowan, Kemp struggled

Pitto Cerra Walsh
Acres Cripps O Hollands

Martin/Moir Charlie Fantasia
Mots Harry TDK

Boyd Hewett Kennedy Doc Cottrell

Elijah will walk in after suspension
