How was Fantasia?
Honestly? Very rusty.

Did a few things, but the game flow - high long kicks to a contested forward half, low pressure from our end (and not theirs; they weren't going at AFL pressure levels either, but they were a good deal more interested than we were) - didn't really suit him.

Not much to take from a hitout in those conditions

Based purely on that, the fight for fringe positions would be clearer for round 1

Gov Young Newman
Williams Marchbank Saad

Cowan, Kemp struggled

Pitto Cerra Walsh
Acres Cripps O Hollands

Martin/Moir Charlie Fantasia
Mots Harry Fog

TDK Hewett Kennedy Doc Cottrell

Elijah will walk in after suspension
Hahah exactly, i thought we did OK in conditions like that.
The scoreboard means nothing anyway, get them match fit ready to go!

Lol I come on here after work and all I see is negativity

Really selling the season for me boys 😂

I mean reality is we aren’t gonna be anything without weitering so to judge the state of how the backline plays in any match, let alone a praccy, is pointless

Positives:
- I thought Hewett looked closer to the 2022 version than at any time after round 1 last year.
- The Hollands brother were both good, Elijah should be best 23 and Ollie looks like he’s going to improve further on last year.
- Harry looked terrific bar the kicking for goal.
- Raz and Mots looked busy and were getting to good spots as is required in their roles
- All the core players who will drive our destiny in 2024 got the match conditioning they need.

Negatives:
- Young is still very indecisive with and without the ball and we look out of synch when he is in the play, a big problem give Weiters is missing.
- Alarmingly the same could be said of Kemp too based on today, albeit I think he is far more talented than Young.
- Fringe players who needed to shine to be in the frame for selection like Fog, Cunners and Cowan didn’t do much suggest they’ve improved, albeit Cowan certainly has time on his side as opposed to the other two.

For mine, Hewy, Ollie, Gov, Newman, Harry, Saady, Cotts and Mots in flashes were the standouts.

Of the newbies, Elijah was pretty good but did lack a bit of polish (very tough conditions).
Orazio will not play Rd.1 on that performance I do not believe and Moir was OK for an 18 y/o having
his first stint , will be a player in time.

On the downside as has been said, Kemp too bad to be true and Young will have to be A LOT better
in next game to cover Weiters in opening round.

A tough day that all involved should benefit from.

If I’m not mistaken cats had full strength side and we have weiters Walsh Martin Williams Kennedy etc out? And it’s a praccy match? I don’t understand the negativity I’ve just read 18 pages long
Yep they only had Rohan out - think we had 9 notable absentees (6-7 clear best 23). I didn't watch the game but Cats also had a 41-man squad to our 26. So assume there was a disparity in number of rotations
