Was with the Spirit of Carlton boys today on that balcony behind the goals. Great place to watch footy from.

Some of the attendees were Geoff Southby, David McKay, Stephen Gough, Ian Collins, Wayne Johnston amongst others.

Great to see Eddie Betts there, was with his oldest boy who is nearly as tall as him now. Zac Williams popped in for a while as well.

Good to see a bit of footy at the old ground, the players having a run around, the wind out there was a nightmare because not only was it very strong but it was gusty and changing direction at the same time. Was nice to be just five metres away from seeing Moir kick his first unnoffical goal for the Blue Boys. No injuries is the best news, second best is the hot weather will help us for our game against Brissy.

All the head honchos were also there, going to be a long day for them with the AGM tonight.

Sandwiches were top notch.

Start with the bad.
None of the guys I wanted to see shine (Kemp, Young, Small forwards) did anything that would get you excited.

The good.
Boyd keeps showing he should be a player and has very good attributes.
I think O Hollands has a much higher ceiling then I expected.

Indifferent.
E Hollands looks handy but I’m just not sure where he fits into this side, especially if we play two rucks.

Shows how important Weiters is, and why he has to play fullback instead of the intercepting role we’d love to see him play. Completely sets us up from behind the play and can see both Young and Kemp looking a little lost at times without him.

Most of our good players will still be good. Charlie will get serious about his kicking soon. Harry flushed a few, fluffed a few but looks on track for a big year. Saad, Boyd, Mitch and Newman were good down back. Young & Kemp struggled but get another chance next week and hopefully S. Durdin and Marchy can give us more options. Z. Williams gives us more run and defensive cover from down back.

I guess what we are really looking for in this sort of hit outs are no injuries (tick I think) and incremental progress from young and new players. From those;

Ollie Hollands has no right to improve from a huge first season but looks like he has. He's a gem.
Elijah Hollands is not the finished product yet but has all the tools. Will be a real steal and I can't see him playing too many reserves games.
Lachy Cowan didn't do much wrong but I would have liked him to impose himself a bit more.
Orazio Fantasia did a couple of nice things but not too much impact. Important to remember that he has played little football of late that just getting through a game is a win.
Jack Carroll - limited sample size. Neither here nor there.
Ashton Moir kicked a couple of opportunistic goals but had no real impact.

Best to think of this game as a very insignificant step. Get a few more back against the Dees and get ready for the real stuff.

Carlton says it's "on the table" that Zac Williams gets some minutes in next Wednesday's practice match against Melbourne, having missed 12 months with an ACL injury. Assistant coach Aaron Hamill said this afternoon: "If high-performance hand him over, then we'll play him."

I think with Cowan it'd be hard to reconcile how he plays and the direction during preseason. He needs to be let off the leash physically rather than the 'get the miles in your legs and don't hurt yourselves going too hard' that preseason requires.

He played as though confused, because he needs that uncompromising 100 percent effort to play properly.

I think he is still very much a development player this year Geth, he may get the odd game if we are hit with a few defensive injuries and he is in good form…
Season 3 (2025) should see him starting to produce more on his talent…

Boy, Moir is looking lean but strong in the chest/shoulders.

Wait till this frame fills out..

Was really about what the new guys will bring.

E. Hollands

Was pure class, barely wasted a ball and found enough of it.

Fantasia

showed class with great poise, will be a handy player for us.

Moir

Limited opportunities but still managed to bob up with 2 goals. 2nd one just oozed class

BOG for us was probably Saad.

Ollie super impressive, will be an A grade prime mid for as long as Braddles was barring injury.

My biggest concern today was that the fatigue caused by heat would open the door for more injuries. No unjuries is a big win
