Take the best available midfielder with 9 and look for small forwards in the 2nd and 3rd round.

Players like Dylan Williams, Elijah Taylor etc. could be available a bit later on.
Best available for me as it’s highly unlikely to be a tall. Not having a second pretty much rules us out of the majority of half exciting players unfortunately.

Flanders or Weightman seems to be the consensus yes? If so, best get to watching their highlights! haha.
Don't fall in love!
I've avoided all draft news this year expecting us to not participate in the first 2 rounds. But knowing me I'm now going to fall for a few players only for us to trade the pick to a 2020 😂

Is there a list of players that we are 95% sure won't make it to our pick?

I like to put those aside so I can narrow down the field to concentrate on....

My youtube recruiting pea-brain can only come up with Rowell, Anderson, Green and sounds like Weightman to Melbourne...

Rowell, Anderson, Young, Ash - I would say those names are highly likely to not be around and would be an instant selection if they were.

Green and Henry are not viable but I would certainly place a bid on those players. Henry probably the least likely to get a bid, but I love him.

Serong, Flanders, Stephens - They will probably be gone, but who knows.

I am personally not the biggest Serong fan, so I I would probably pass on him if he drifted, but I would certainly consider the other names.

I am assuming we get our hands on Martin and maybe the following year Paps gets traded to us without the issues of JD.

Names that may be considered.

Robertson
Kemp
Rivers

Not sure I want to roll the dice on Kemp with knee issues and he did not seem like a massive possession player before being injured. Robertson for pure inside work and Rivers for the more versatile player. I would still really hope a Young or Ash managed to get to our pick with Flanders my next best option.

Those might be the more viable names to consider. Maginnes is another name that clubs may considering nominating higher than previously expected. If Bianco was a little taller, I would be certainly considering him with his foot skills.

Pick 9 is going to be a bit of a lottery, but given it was considered Pick 9 by itself was too much to pay for Papley, you wouldn't then turn around & use it on a small forward like Weightman. I'm really not sure who we should take at this pick.

I would love it if Philp made it to our Pick 43, but I suspect he will be gone before then. Perhaps SOS can engineer a swap of picks to move us up to somewhere in the mid to late 20s.

If I'm not mistaken we can trade picks up until draft day and I'd be keen to roll this pick over to 2020 and swap it for a future 1st for a club that wants to get into the top 10 this year. 2 first rounders next year (plus a 2021 first or second rounder) gives us plenty of leverage to go back after Papley and also have a really good hand to secure Wines if that is our intention.

Yeah, i suspect there’s a few players in particular that we rate and we might hang onto pick 9 hoping that one of them falls into our lap. If not, and given there’s a thought that the next tier of players are relatively evenly rated, we could look to do a live trade where we offer pick 9 to a club who fancies themselves next year for a pick in the early 20s and a 2020 first round pick.

We still get a decent player but with far more bargaining power for next year, particularly in a draft where clubs will be keen to trade up to get selections in before bids for their affiliated players.

It will be interesting to watch what SOS does.

Same. Future first for mine.

Let`s hope he does not have to wait for other teams to "play ball" with us like he had to today.........I think too many things in the trades were out of his control and he should have split pick 9 to give himself a chance of at least getting something done with one of the picks.........now does he offer pick 9 for a future first rounder or just go to the draft this year for another 18 year old...........Right at this moment I would prefer that the club actually goes and drafts someone with the pick so that it feels like we have been able to achieve something from all this trade mess...........lucky the coach wanted Eddie, or our small forward stocks would have stayed the same as they were this season.............I am totally gutted by our failure at the trades, and what makes it worse is that the Saints were able to land every player they were after............just grab the best 18 year old goal sneak that you can SOS, because who knows if Papley will stay interested in us after this..........

Haha. After assuming all year that we would trade our (Adelaide's) 1st pick for an established player, we end trade week with it left in our hands.

And what is our next thought? Let's trade it for a 2020 first and change!

I don't disagree with the idea, just find it funny.

What has that poor pick done to us to make us hate it so much? Does it smell like Adelaide? :p
