List Mgmt. Carlton's 2019 Draft Thread

The last three years we've seen the 'ready made midfielder' slide in the draft, although Ross more pushed his draft stock up after not playing national championships:

2018 Pick 43 Jack Ross
2017 Pick 45 James Worpel
2016 Pick 53 Jack Graham

Would love a hard nosed midfielder with a mid-tier pick this year.
Who are the likely candidates this year then?

Sam Philp, like Jack Ross was overlooked for the national championships. Local Northern Knights boy who can play seniors early. Would be around the mark if we kept our pick 38. He's around that 185-187cm so around that 6'1 size
Was a prolific ball winner for the Knights this season, playing both inside & outside. Has a slight build at the moment, but this didn't stop him from getting his hands dirty.

I've flagged both these kids before, but Cooper Stephens is your man. Powerful unit with a good engine, good size, good leap, tough as old boots and has terrific disposal by hand and foot. Stephens is exceptionally clean with his hands around the contest and he just topped out the Yo-yo test. Sam Philp has breakaway speed, but like Paddy Dow, his disposal by foot and decision making is a work in progress. Reckon you'd need a pick around the 25 mark to acquire Stephens and a pick somewhere in the mid 30s to get Philp.

I too like Stephens, I would've given him a shout but like you thinking we probably won't be able to select him.

Reading between the lines of what agresta said on the video yesterday, I think we'll have a pick in this range.

I don't believe you unless you have awesome frame by frame pictures.... ;)

Do not want Sharp
You're getting more adamant on this... I know the official story is that he had a bout of illness right as his AIS-AFL pre-season cadetship was about to begin at Fremantle and he wasn't able to re-schedule, but he ticks a lot of boxes and his combine numbers are very solid.

He's no Boekhorst in terms of his attitude, that's for sure... so what's the issue?

There could be a possibility that Cooper Stephens slips , I would be happy to take him with pick #20 but h is most likely a 2nd rounder this year and has had an injury (broken leg) missed most of the season but he is a very good player 189cm 83kgs inside mid with good speed and massive tank

* sorry smoking gun posted before reading to the end of the thread

Anyone want to have a shot at where Stocker would fit into this draft?
Always hard to gauge as somehow players that haven't been exposed to AFL are somehow better than for those that have. :)
Rowell, Anderson and maybe Green would be seen to be the better players even at this stage, but who else?

For Carlton I feel that Serong would have been a good get, but it sure seems to me that we've done very, very well out of our trade last year.

I think another draft guru had Stocker at #16 in last year’s draft. A weaker draft (according to the pundits) so he must be pushing towards a stage presentation with Teague.

None of that matters as it was the CFC who acted on a player they rated at #6
Cripps went @ #13, Fyfe @ #20, Yeo @ #30.

Given the rating of Stocker, the belief that the CFC would be better and Adelaide worse the following year, getting an extra year into a player, not rating the following years draft as being anything special and knowing that the 2019 first will be spent on a player makes the deal perfectly logical.

That makes for one part of the equation and the other part is whether the player you rated at #6 was worth it.
Even at this early stage, it looks as though it will be. Great deal.

Based on players that may drift and could be good pick ups.

Jay Rantall - I think this kid has some of the best hands on the inside. You combine this with his awareness in close and tank, I think he is a great option.

(WA bias)
I think these WA names will come off in this order.

Mitch Georgiades - Versatile player that can play forward and move through the midfield. I have not seen him play in a very long time, but hearing reports he is on a few clubs radar.
(On a side note Arrow and other Sharp fans, he is getting a heap of attention from recruiters behind the scenes.)

Trey Ruscoe - This is my personal bandwagon player. He has potential to be a tallish rebounding defender, but I see big bodied midfielder long term. I have a Mundy feel about him, may start down back but could be moved forward or mid.

Warner - Just a workman styled midfielder that could be a nice late to rookie prospect that I would not hate to have on a list.

Who do we think will be good choices around 47, 71, 48?

Asking for a friend's team...

The way Dylan Williams is trending in public media and social media discussions from non List Managers , we might be a shot with those picks. Forgotten man.

Still very very high on my board, but i don't have my job on the line lol. Maybe he is one for Dodo to gamble on, because let's face it, his job is never on the line.....and Williams is a flanker.

I'll be watching with interest where Williams goes this year, just like i was watching with interest where Williams went last year.

I've noticed some people suggesting a trade for GC's mid first rounder next year.
How can this be done when the pick itself is (supposedly) provisional?

What a stupid position the AFL has put itself into; 'You can have it but maybe you can't and we'll decide on that later, but we don't really know on what grounds'

Stupidity and they're digging a deeper and deeper rabbit hole for themselves as they go along.

The AFL rules are only ever guidelines, as everyone already knows.

They have officially stated that the GC picks are reviewable after each year, but have also officially stated that all 3 years of GC picks are as of now theirs to do what they want with.

The coded AFL language means wtte "Gold Coast, you might be wise to use at least next years gift Pick 11 NOW in case of minor miracle that you rise next year and we are forced by Jeff and Eddie to take it back off you".

Won't stop our rise though Harks … but yes I completely agree.
