VFL Casey Demons VFL 2023 Season

Quarter time and Casey dominating play, but only up 1.7.13 to 1.1.7. If it stays like this in general play I’d expect Casey to pull away with the wind in the 2nd.

Jordon was the most impressive IMO, and Laurie was involved consistently.

All four of Casey’s tall forwards had little purple patch cameos (JVR, Joel Smith, Schache and Jefferson).

Kye Turner showed a bit of dash.

K. Turner, Seston and Hibberd work it forward and Schache reads it best to take a mark at the back of the back 45 out on a 45 degree angle.

50 metre penalty and Schache gets the goal.

Kye Turner is everywhere in this quarter so far. Intercepts, going on runs, tackles.

Schache reading the ball better than everyone else in the air. Contested mark on the wing from behind, then swings around and hits Jordon 45 out directly in front. Goal.

JVR is playing the relief ruck role, not Schache. Interesting.

It’s a pretty free flowing game, low pressure. Lots of Melbourne listed players looking good but I’m not sure how well it will translate to AFL level.

Jordon just running around doing as he pleases and has hardly made a mistake from what I remember. But very little pressure on him.

It wasn’t Moniz-Wakefield who kicked the first goal, it was Casey player Grey.

Geez, I know Jed Adams had a very interrupted preseason, but he’s the only Melbourne listed player who has looked shaky. His man Khamis kicks a goal after a good pack mark.

Neither are playing. It hasn’t been mentioned why (or that they aren’t playing). It could even be with the blustery conditions they felt the team was too tall with them in.

Schache takes another well judged mark 20 out right in front and kicks a goal.

He reads the ball really well and has good foot skills, but he’s not aggressive with his body. No surprises there as that’s always been the criticism of him.
