yeah JVR having an extended run in the ruck and doing well around the ground, maybe he comes in next week for Gawn
You’d have to think that’s what they are planning. If they were going to bring Schache in for Gawn he should’ve been doing the majority of the relief rucking today, not JVR.

Footscray’s Jordan Sweet is a good test against AFL level physicality too.

Jefferson another well judged mark on 50. Just misses left.

He doesn’t look as slight as I expected he would. Has great hands and looks a very sound technical kick.
Thinking the same, great hands and looks comfortable from outside 50.

Adams was the only listed player who looked a little out of his depth. That’s his first game so definitely can cut him a bit of slack.

You’d think JVR will come in for Gawn given he must’ve rucked about 25% of this game.

Hibberd (back), Laurie (HF), Jordan (Mid) and Dunstan (Mid) would be the other obvious possibles depending on how much Melbourne want to swing the changes.

It’s a very, very tall team at VFL level if everyone is available.

The Casey listed ruck Bell has improved significantly too and I imagine is a better VFL ruck today than Verrall and Farris-White.

I wonder how they are going to develop all of these talls effectively as they are mostly rucks and forwards.

Pretty sure I asked last year but how's JVR when the balls on the deck? Not big enough to be an aerial only player. Not saying he has to be Jeremy Cameron but gonna go a long way to playing if he can be effective in more than one area

Apparently one of his strengths is his aggression and pressure when the ball is on the deck.

JVR is pretty decent at ground level, I’d say above average for a forward of his size. Not that it’s a high bar, but he’s much more agile and clean than Brown or McDonald.

His forward game is still based around being a leading marking player who needs to be targetted to be in the game. It’s not like he sets up to rove the ball. When he gets it at ground level as a forward it will be after he hasn’t marked one that he tried to mark.

The games where he racks up quite a bit of the ball, like this weekend, are because he has spent a reasonable chunk of time in the ruck. He’s undersized as a ruck and I think he will get slaughtered in ruck contests at AFL level. But he does pretty well post hit out on the ground and also getting involved around the ground.

Yeah and that's my worry, no point playing him when everyone's fit because our diabolical ball movement will make him look stupid.

"oh sex tent , SEX TENT" epic commentary Johnny Karate

Remember the banter years when we used to have a guard of honour, trumpeter and unfurl the flag before Hawthorn would belt us by 100 points or some shit?

Just imagine 23,000 people (mainly Sydney supporters) watching the pre match pegging of the Sextent before we get beaten by 80 next week?
