I missed most of the third quarter.

Howes looks really promising, but I don’t know how he gets a game in the firsts. He’s either an Isaac Smith style tall winger, or a rangey half back. Those spots are pretty full in the AFL side. Is a good overhead mark, has pace and seems a neat kick.

Tomlinson, McDonald and Dunstan all did as you’d expect them to at this level. Tells us nothing about what they are likely to do at AFL level.

Jefferson looks really promising. Frame is too light for AFL level now but he shows good hands and reads the ball well in the air. Good decision maker and good kick.

Sestan is a long way off physically for AFL, but there’s enough footy nous there to work with. Seemed to result in a scoring opportunity pretty much every time he got it.

Deakyn Smith just doesn’t do much for me when I watch him. He’s got a bit better now into his third year but he just looks vanilla and I don’t know what his role would be at AFL level. Last year I thought McVee was pretty much a bust and I couldn’t see what he’d bring at AFL level. Things can change.

I’m positive Laurie was being used sparingly as this afternoon’s emergency. Not based on today but I’m confident he’s worth persevering with but finding a spot in the AFL team will be tough. He’s competing with Spargo, Chandler, Pickett, ANB and Harmes.

Adams is very, very raw. Give him time but he’d want to develop significantly both physically and in game sense. It could just be nervousness I guess for his game sense at the moment.

Moniz-Wakefield looks like he belongs at VFL level now and I couldn’t say that last year. He might be in a similar spot to Chandler a couple of years back when he was good at VFL level but the step up will be tough.

I didn’t notice Kye Turner too much today. Another rangey not small defender, not proper tall. Too early to project if he will make it. How many rangey backs that aren’t proper KPD can you have along with Daniel Turner and potentially Howes? Probably part of the reason J.Smith is training as a forward again when not injured.

Joel Smith hurt his thumb and is out for 3 weeks.

Has to be the most injury prone ive ever seen play for us. If you can do a mischief to a specific body part, Joel will find a way of doing it.

He'd be tied with VandenBerg i reckon. Joel still has 20 more games to catch him. If Joel gets fit i can see him as a decent sub. Can play forward or back. Not sure his body will hold up and there's a few ahead of him now too. But could hold a spot on the list with TMac, Hibberd, Melk and BB slowing to a crawl.

I don't see Joel getting another 20 games tbh. His contract is up this year and he's been on the list for 7 years I think and only played 28 games, that's terrible. I like the guy but his body is just not up for the AFL.

Very weak Casey side. Showing already albeit against the wind. Still shouldn't lose to Frankston. Not a good start though. Getting spanked in the middle so far.

poor disposal hurt Casey that qtr. they were kicking into the wind but still, high up and under shallow forward entries aren't going to get it done. also got hammered around the ball. lacking a bit of quality/experience across the ground today, no TMac/JVR to straighten them up forward, and no Tommo down back is a big out also. hopefully they'll put themselves in front this qtr, if not they might struggle to win this one.

How good was Dunstan that quarter! Munro as well. Both turned the match really. Really impressed with Turner's game down back. Been super solid. Laurie looked good that quarter also. Howes had plenty of it. Probably lacks a bit of polished but seems to find it ok. Scache got involved that quarter a bit too.

Much better quarter. Helps when it's a 35min quarter with the wind.
