Hartung good and will get better.
Pittonet good competitor-stick with.
Shoey terrible, hope he's not one of those players that struggles if the team struggles and only plays well when the team plays well.
Sicily maybe in time, but not much time left.
Litherland good player.

I'm over this club going belly up so easy

I couldn't care less if we got flogged by 100pts, as long as the players do what is required by them
The basic stuff, rather than deciding it's all too hard for 3 quarters and playing like its 2004 where it's everyone for themselves
It's why I miss players like Tom murphy and Tom Clarke

They were hardly world beaters, but you could bet your bottom dollar they'd put in a 4 quarter effort each week

Schoenmakers back to being played out of position
Put him at CHB or CHF, where his elite kicking can be used to hit a target
Don't put him deep in the square where a pack will form over the top of him!

If you're going to play Rioli forward, make sure there's space

Hodge was woeful, disgraceful effort
Clearly thinks he's done enough
Keep it up, and he should call it curtains before he ruins his name

Sicily is woeful
He is too small to play key position
Too big to be a small forward
Not quick enough to be a wingman, and not strong or agile enough to play in the thick of it
C'mon man. This is crazy negative shit

Meltdown Madness.

Good first game. Looked slow at times, but competed well and was pretty tough at the ball. Can't recall any field marks, however. But he wasn't alone. We were murdered in the air today.
It was un-Hawthorn like how crap we were at contests today. I'm confident we can turn this around. 3rd qtr we were crazy good. It's still all there

Liked the way Gus Litherland stuck with it after shaky start.
He made better decisions for sure, some good second and third efforts. Liked how he ran to draw a player and then handballed a few times instead of just hoofing it.
Think Brand would have been a better choice but it's the best I've seen Gus play for a while

No team or club has an entitled entry to the finals or win games without bringing their best for longer than the opposition and today too many of ours failed to do that unfortunately. The coaches didn't shine either. Bad day at the office and I'd say that thei body of work over the journey points to us fixing the problems over the next few weeks.

The bit that pisses me is that so many of our own are so quick to kick our own. We lost. We didn't play well. We do both of these things less often than others but show some respect or get beyond the instant gratification demand. We are probably never going to be the 2014 Grand Final team again but enjoy who we have.

Arrogance gets you no where. Suck a fat one you stupid pricks. Too old too slow!

Same old, same old - geelong's grand final round 1
It's like ground hog day

The more I think about it, the less I care about this loss. I feel like, when you've just watched your team win 3 in a row and 4 in 8 years, on top of living through the 70s and 80s, we could lose every game this year and finish flat, stoney last and I wouldn't be overly concerned...

You say that like youknow it wont happen
Four wins will split 1st from 9th according to squiggle

it was a bad day but i live in sunny G town so had weeks and weeks of the inbred ferals at me.....and i predicted a 5 goal loss sadly......but it still hurts though.
Not that it matters what i or any of us say but i do reckon Brand has to play, and even if he has a few kicked on him just leave him in for a good 6 weeks or so at least. The knock on effect with him taking the biggest key or resting ruck men gives us Gibbo to create and pinch hit and Stratton to play on whoever Clarko wants him too.
Anyone thats bags Stratton needs their head read, seriously get some help.
Howe in and left forever. Sicily is too short and too slow and believes what Dermie says about him. Good reserves player and kicks straight but too short and slow for the main show.
I like Litherland but i would love to see the big Kiwi in the team, he of the long arms and skinny body reminds me of Fletcher for some reason. And man does he love the contest.
It will probably take weeks to find our feet with so many good players retiring, leaving and injured but it was coming for a while and now has been forced upon us.
Will be interesting to see who makes the grade long term.

Wow, here I was feeling crumby about the loss and then I read this board! :):):thumbsu::thumbsu:

Lewis to be delisted, Shoey worst game ever played, Clarko to have a good hard look at himself! At least our supporters haven't lost any hunger after three-peating!

BF's back in 2016!!

To be fair the second statement is pretty much fact, I challenge you to find a worse one.

Let's see where we are at in a months time before throwing the baby out with the water.

If that is Geelongs best then they are in for an underwhelming season I wouldn't have thought.

We showed in the 3rd quarter what we are capable of, just couldn't get it going for long enough and were out on our feet late.

Remember they had no injuries, a month more of training and could not have scripted a better first half.

I doubt Danger plays a better game this year nor Smith and yet they only put it to be late in the last Q.

Signs weren't great today and injuries making it tough but I wouldn't be too disappointed.

Sicily needs to be backed in for a long stretch.

He wasn't good today but he has serious talent and needs more AFL games to get it out of him.

It was only his 4th game today, it's not like he is 96 matches in and still only contributing only 2 possessions.
I agree. Doesn't do a player's confidence a lot of good to drop them after one game, though with the Eagles & Dogs coming up I wonder how many easy touches will be there for him. Problem is he's really a third tall, so is Gunston & Schoenmakers. Without Roughy & Hale its obvious what we're lacking.

Posters pot shotting him for squibbing a couple of contests should remind themselves how light he is for a KPP and how intense the pressure was today. I've seen some far more experienced Hawthorn players pull up short occasionally, hopefully its part of his learning curve.

Hodge being out is huge... his influence extends far beyond his worth as a player. Hope he's OK and it's not too serious.

Langford and Litherland showed good signs, and Hartung did well after a shaky start. Mitch carried the team for a good part of the game and Burgoyne did well in patches.

Duryea looked a bit out of sorts to me, as did Lewis, especially judged against his lofty standards. Schoenmakers seems to have lost the mean streak that he had at the end of last year when he was crashing packs. He needs to get used to not having another tall around to take focus off him. Smith was also down on output.

That being said, it's only round one. Got some experience into some youth. I have confidence we'll bounce back, although we have another tall order ahead of us in West Coast next week. Hope we do bounce back, or I'll be copping it from all angles here in the west :(
