Autopsy Cats v Hawks, Round 1

Our forward structure looked weird as hell as well. Times we were playing the usual way and other times it was almost like the Sydney 2012 slingshot with Gunners + Schoey pushing up and Poppy + Breust running in behind

For a bloke iv seen at BH want to fight every man and his dog i thought Sicily was poor on 3 occasions where and when he needed to put his head over the ball and win the contest .....really poor.
Thought JOR lacked both composure and disp penetration .....have Howe in front of him.
Thought Pits was very good , competed hard and didn't take a backward step.
Gus ....yer / nar .
Miss Spang a lot imo .
If Hodge is added to our injurys which all are long term the year WILL get away from us .......09 all over sadly .
And bye the way , 3 flags in a row shouldn't stop posters from airing there opinions . The roses in the garden are wilting make no mistake about it .
Agree on Sicily no presence or aggression at all.
I don't mind posters calling out bad performances or saying we need to play better but some people only post after a loss and only bag the same one or two players every time they do which gets a bit old.
One game is a bit early to be deciding if we should be immediately retiring Hodge and Lewis too I think.
Interested if you think any of the other kids might get a run next week

Unbelievable how many people don't realise that we won three flags because we had such a complete vision and system to execute it.
With Lake gone we lose:
1) 7 or 8 rebounding attacks from his marks
2) Gibbo playing on his terms
3) Frawley locking down

But most importantly it throws everything out of whack. There were a ton of times our midfield was down in games over those years and he sensed the moments and stopped the damage.
Now unless Mitchell destroys teams every minute of the game they will score ...

I know I am an emotional dude but Brand must come in and play all season simply for our structure.

And Shoey, I'll just drop that. I trust Clarko but FFS he can crush the system too.
I called 2) in the preview thread.

Was mindboggling how a defender unable/unproven on talls gets to play over a 198cm defender with a great read of the ball.

I agree with your last sentence too. He mind ****s me sometimes against Geelong. Bonehead strategic decisions that kill the team.

Even Heatherly plays taller than Gus, I get the club may have thought Brand wasn't ready but we need to find out if he can play. Hopefully Spang gets his body right to give us another option/some backup

Suck a fat one you flogs, your time in the sun is over and it's our time to shine again.

Mitchell and Hodge are too old, fat and slow, Gunston is an absolute hack without Buddy or Roughie next to him.

I am going to enjoy every bit of watching your shit club fall down the ladder, it's going to be a long time before you blokes are winning premierships again.
Enjoy unemployment

Ok you do that in the comfort of your meth lab in Geelong.

Try not to set yourself on fire and remember to feed your pets occasionally ok?

Sicily needs to be backed in for a long stretch.

He wasn't good today but he has serious talent and needs more AFL games to get it out of him.

It was only his 4th game today, it's not like he is 96 matches in and still only contributing only 2 possessions.

Isn't it past your bedtime?

Keep that game up and we are looking at a mini rebuild folks. I can sense a hard year for us. There were structural holes exposed on every line today. And too many broken tackles. Tough to stomach.

Gunston, Bruest and Pop gave us the usual number of goals you might expect, there won't be too much improvement from them. Shoe has to be the guy that stands up. Sicily looks too light framed to take heat.

I don't know that we can carry him through his development at the moment. He pulled out of a couple of contests early, and badly so he may not get another chance next week

Here come the Corio Bay crackheads.

Terrible result but still a good game.
Clarko/ coaches have a lot to answer for in regards to the result. From 10 minutes in it was evident that there was a need to roll the players back to their respective preferred positions. We were spanked on the inside which made the outside game non existent & the further exposed our under sized backline.
Clarko persisted I feel to see what was available for later in the season but I think it was far to late in the second term before players settled.
I'm not going to say who was required to fix the problem but a couple of guys that contributed to the problem... That's a different story.

Pittonet played a pretty good debut but was completely found to be at least 2 years away IMO. He battled & had some fight but ultimately proven as the no4 ruck.

Sicily has been talked up! IMO he was as soft as butter left on the bench in summer. 0 relevance as a marking option ( considered his bread & butter ) & from my previous POV absolutely not up to standard when pushed to a wing or defence. ( I will this time only! I told you so )

Shoey.... It was the worst Shoey moment ever. He, & Gunston, need rotational relief to move further up the ground. Shoey is the 3rd tall when Rough is fit & isn't able to play big minutes on guys like Taylor, Hendo, Lonergan unless he can be released to a wing/Gunner type role.

Smith... Missed Hill
Hodge missed Lake ( hated defence!)
Breust missed Hale & Rough as did Cyril
Gibson missed Brand (nab form)
Everyone missed Shiels!!! ( next Captain )
BB missed Cegs

I did like Langers, JOR, Gus & Billy. They will get better every senior game they get & need to get games to improve!
Rd1 isn't do or die but... Boy oh boy... We looked old & slow!

Silk might be better as an impact player off the bench & fwd
Hodge needs to play in the middle & fwd
Mitch needs Shiels. ( not that Mitch played bad at all but when Shiels is back, watch the work he puts in to release Mitch & others at stoppages
JOR could learn a lot from Liam!

Rd 1 lived up to expectation without the desired result... Bummer
One player goes out another comes in... One week at a time... We've overcome adversity in the past... Our focus is on next week...
If Clarko being to cute with positional structures weeds out the week links early & gives others an opportunity ( hello TOB, Brand, Howe, Hardwick, Fitzy ) then That's fine by me.

Stratts was having to do more than he should have without Brand playing and Gibson's opponent told to lead Gibson away from the contest.

Stratts had to play the third man up, had to defend mid 190+cm players and had to play the defensive rover all while the defense was under immense pressure due to the midfield lacking defensive pressure on the Geelong mids.

He came out with the aggression and fierce mindset that a player with the hunger to win needs and that spoil on Hawkins where he sat him on his arse was standing ovation worthy.

To say he played poorly is grossly unfair.

Having such a settled team for so long, with the luxury of easing one or two players in at a time, was always going to bite us in the butt a bit, when wholesale changes needed to be made.
The young dudes need game time to develop.

While I am normally not a fan of Hartung, I thought he was pretty good in parts today. May have to change out of my McJudgey judgepants on him...

Seriously, what a childish post.
Really - is that the best you can offer to this forum or is that the best your intellect will allow.
Dear me.

No dropping O'Rourke or Langford keeping them in the team will do loads for confidence.
Sicily probably has to be sent a message and back to Boxhill for a month.
Shame some of the older players had to be challenged for them to pull their fingers out but playing one good quarter out of 4 isnt going to win many games this year.

Sort of off topic but Stratton has to be the most creative defender I've seen. Backwards tackles, the ankle trap the bloke has an endless bag of ball killing tricks.

He's so under-appreciated on this board. All last year there were cries of how out of form he is. I kept saying, look at what his opponent is not doing, he'll be up near the top in the PCM. Where did he finish?

The chemistry was all wrong today. If, or when, we regain most players by the end of the season we are still capable of beating any side. As long as we make the finals, we can win the flag.

Time and time again we have shown this team plays it's best footy in finals. I recall last year when we lost a few games people rode us off- time to rebuild they said. Well, we won the flag didn't we?

So our supporters should just relax and enjoy the show. One, two or three bad games don't define a season. Everyone saw how damaging we can still be in the 3rd quarter. I was quite pleased. We had 4 of our best 22 not playing let's not forget.

Eventually we will drop off, that's life. I just hope it's not this year. One more and I'll be content.

He is such a smartarse of a player.
While he does have some faults, he can be freaking hilarious to watch, opposition players must hate him.
