Should be a good day of racing. The Yalumba field is small but it could shape the market for the big three a little. Guinease looks open with Whobegotyou drawing wide and the Toorak is open as well.

For mine ill take Sirmione and Casual Pass (both $6.50) in the Yalumba and Valedictum ($17) and Pillar of Hercules ($15) in the Toorak and run them all into doubles.

Got Whobegotyou at about $6 a couple weeks ago.

Hope Largo runs as it is my fave. horse, but it really needs to get a win in a good race soon.

Vienesse as well, another one of my faves. should brain that field.

I'm leaning towards Time Thief in the Guineas. The Yalumba is a little tricky, you would think Pompeii Ruler is the one to beat and will start fav.

However I've been spruiking a bit about Guillotine lately, if he is going to win the CC he needs to run well on Sat. Might just include him in some exotic bets.

Lucky Secret is my best bet for the day. :thumbsu:

I like Carnero in the guineas. Continues to run on and should be at just about peak fitness now. Wide gate not as bad as it seems as he wont get caught up on the fence like he has been. Very much at EWAY odds.

Pompeii Ruler should be hard to beat in the Yalumba.

Turffontein in the Toorak.

A wet track would be handy also. Actually, cancel that. I want to have a decent crack at Lucky Secret. :D

If Kaphero gets off to a good start like normal and gets a 2+ length advantage from the start on Lucky Secret, which would be mainly determined by barrier draws, I think he could be the one to beat as he is probably right at his peak now.

Barriers are going to be crucial, no doubt. I'm not a lover of Khaphero and away from MV I'm more then happy to lay him.

When was the last time kaphero had a spell? Just out of interest...

Pompeii should smash them in the Yalumba. Just got to the front a bit early in the long straight at Flem, that won't happen at Caul. No odds though.

Valedictum - rattled home in the 1400 last start, he's going well, $17 is tempting. Also like Turfontein $9.50. Orange County is fav, sot sure about him this time, barrier 16 and up the most in weight.

The fillies race is good.

Viennese back to Caul where she won, hopefully the jockey doesnt try and lead on her again.
Marveen drops heaps in weight.
Impressive Eagle was an eyecatching run from behind at MV with Ortensia who then won her next race.
Velocitea is going well, beat Cats Whisker home MV, and close to a win, gives weight to Marveen though.
Born Princess and Olonana both very impressive and unbeaten.
Damesfly also unbeaten but way up in class.

Red Element will be bouncing back if he doesn't draw too inside.

It's all about Von Costa De Hero in the Guineas, he needs this for his stud career, all previous efforts have led up to this race, will be last, and will be running all over the top, i would love if it was a truly run race. The speed looks to be Tindal and Whitefriars from outside, Rockdale, Fernandina and Time Thief will pursue the lead, hopefully they all do lol

I'm not a Kaphero lover myself either but this race looks perfect for him barring he gets a nice barrier draw.

He had his last spell 9 runs back BUT he did race over 1200m last start and really made a fist of the race up until the last 50m even though he doesn't normally run that trip.

He has got the miles in the legs now so if he can get in front early in a 1000m race he could prove very hard to run down.

Tindal isn't running.

Tindal will not run in next Saturday's Caulfield Guineas but be preserved for the G1 Ascot Vale Stakes at Flemington on Derby Day, said Nick Williams, racing manager for his father Lloyd.

What do people think of these selections?

Race 1: Nato, good barrier trial recently for a 2L win and for before that was good will 2 3rd’s at distance danger is Naku panda but think weight should get Nato across line.

Race 2: Rockwood, Tough race not really sure at all on this one so really just a guess.

Race 3: Zavite, Was a toss up between it and dolphin Joe. Like Zavite as further into preparation and has one start at caufield 2,400m for a second to CC winner in same race.

Race 4: Kaphero, 1,000m specialist loves the valley Caufield may cause some problems can win Red Element will be charging home.

Race 5: Pompeii Ruler, No Hussler 4th last start should win $2 favorite.

Race 6: Turffontein, Tough race Orange county and Bon Hoffa look good but all have extra 3kg and 1.5kg. So going for 3rd place in that race who gets only .5kg. Alamosa is dark horse has WFA form and is down 3kg’s bad barrier though.

Race 7: Whobegotyou, Good barrier would be $2 favourite bit of a concern that had wide barrier here last time at Caufield and got held up. Will go wide and charge down outside to claim first group 1 win.

Race 8: Marven, Will settle midfiled and charge home 2.5kg’s lighter. Forgive last start at MV as bias to leaders and had not chance.

Race 9: Benatar, 2nd behind vivacious spirt last start even though drawn out can charge home and win if Bel Mer does not get in behind the speed. Other wise will run second.

Brother has a 1/1000000th sharein belond to many in the last this saturday. Would have been keen on her to run a place except she has drawn the car park. She likes to lead and fights on gamely when challeneged

My early thoughts...

Race 1 - Great Source mentioned Eclair Fantastic in the Black Bookers thread. He has good form back in Ade, and this isn't overly strong. Strumming and Naku Penda are the main dangers.

Race 2 - Tough race. I'll go with Falaise for no particular reason, other then I think Pete Snowden is in for a massive spring carnival.

Race 3 - Only 8 runners in the Winners Edge this year, lacks depth. Anamato has Froggy back in the saddle and he has won previously on her at Caulfield. She got home well last start at the Valley and will be suited by the extra 400m. Her only start over the distance was in last years CC, distance is still a query. Zavite is the main danger.

Race 4 - Sticking with Lucky Secret whose is unbeaten at Caulfield (3/3 at the track and 5/6 at the distance. Impressive winner last time, drawn well and will sit just off Kaphero. Kaphero' has had 7 starts at Caulfield for a 2nd and a 3rd and has been unplaced in two previous attempts over the T/D. The lay of the day. I see Tesbury Jack as the main danger.

Race 5 - Sticking with Pompeii Ruler who went a little bit early in the Turnbull, should be at his peak now. Whilst this is a group 1, on current form it's one of the more weaker races he has faced sinced his return. Sirmione has to be kept safe along with Guillotine who is better suited at handicaps. D-Day for Largo Lad and C'est La Guerre.

Race 6 - Down to two,Turffontein and Bon Hoffa. The barrier draw wasn't kind for Orange County, Sea Battle, Raheeb... I'm sticking with Turffontein cause of the weight and his run in the Rupert Clarke was quite good. My one concern is if he is up to this class over the mile. Pillar of Hercules turned in a blinder last start, one to watch.

Race 7 - Going for the on pace runner here with Time Thief. Whobegotyou is going to be short and back in the field. I don't think he'll be able to run down Time Thief if he's in front with 300m to go. Freedman has massive wraps on Time Thief. I see Fernandina as it's main danger.

Race 8 - Sticking with Okaylah here. She's always shown above average ability and now that she's won 2 out of 3 this prep, she'll be hard to beat in this grade. Impressive Eagle who will need a fast run race and Marveen all have a chance. Damselfly is the query runner.

Race 9 - Great, a mares race to finish off with and with anything a chance a winning. Narrowed it down to Benatar and Bel Mer who is dropping down in class and back on her home track. I'll stick with Bel Mer for those reasons.

They're my very early thoughts, no doubt I'll change things pending on the track and pattern of racing...

Good luck and good punting. :thumbsu:

I have herd Nato is a very serious spring horse from connections, forget his first up run, he will only be fitter.
I hope Kaphero wins, more black type the better for swettenham which would be great.
Marveen drops in weight and looks a top chance.
Stick with Von Costa.

With Kaphero not in the top three barriers, meaning he's no certainty to lead, Lucky Secret would have a very good chance at winning me thinks as Lil' Cashy & Gamble Me might kick up on Kaphero's inside.

Alamosa and Olonana are my two best for the day, have taken them both in an early double at $26.25 :thumbsu:

Also like Pompeii Ruler and Dreamscape

Kaphero is like a greyhound out of the gates, I think he'll lead quite easily. If your right about Lil' Cashy and Gamble Me kicking up on the inside Kaphero can't win. Kaphero has to lead if it has any chance of winning.

Quite an intriguing race...
