In a parallel world the board decide WA hasn't come to fruition after all these years and instead pimp games to somewhere like Cairns to the detriment of everything associated with the club besides the short term bottom line.

Based on what we heard from her, the club was sitting on its hands in terms of options post Tasmania until the 19th team was announced and the idea for playing in SW WA came from an AFL employee who manages the fixturing.

It beggars belief that they were not internally planning for an exit for years before this given the ongoing rumblings of Tasmania getting their own team.

Also to have the fixture guy point out the opportunity (especially given it's been something the club has looked at in the past), dear me.

While I kind of agree, my understanding is that we were told - unequivocally - no last time after trying for quite a while. If head office won't entertain something it's not that outrageous for us to eventually move on. It's only come up now, clearly, because it is now convenient for the AFL as well. They are not our friends, at least not good friends. They'll go to a party with us, but dump us for someone better the minute it's convenient. It suits them now because they've let themselves be backed into a corner on Tas, primarily through likely gambling against both State & Federal Gov's agreeing to their stadium and conditions. We're helping them out and they're getting grief from WA because SA Gov were able to gift their teams benefit and WA weren't. Those clubs are all well aware that when Tas comes in it will be the non Vic clubs and small Melbourne clubs expected to do the lions share of travel to Tas.

The bold part no argument at all though. Hopefully we're awake now and ahead of things.

far out people are reaching here to have a go at her over this deal. Here are the crux of the deal.

1. North are still only selling 4 home games, and will be reduced to 2 once the Tassie deal ends. So more games in Melbourne
2. They are getting more money for 2 games in Perth than they did for 4 in Tassie
3. North always play at least 1 game in WA, often 2. So now they get paid over $2 million to play games they normally play anyway.
4. The home games against Weagles and Flogmantle are generally poor attendance at home anyway, so now they get way more money for those games tha they would if they were in Melbourne.
5. Who cares where an idea comes from, at least they are not so arrogant to not be open to good ideas from other people. They heard the idea and capitalised on it.
6. If we are good enough to win a flag, then we are good enough to win in Perth

What is the issue with this? We went to the AFL and said we're exploring opportunities in Western Australia and the person who looks after the fixture says why don't you have a look in the Margaret River region. It's a collaborative process with the AFL.

Our CEO has probably put in over a year of work - multiple meetings with several state Governments and the AFL, explored options overseas, worked out commercial arrangements and logistics, as well as negotiated a semi-withdrawal from the Spirit of Tasmania contract and courtesy meetings with the Tasmanian Government. It's a forum, you'll get all sorts of opinions. Not worth getting too upset about it. It's not like this club has the cleanest record of dealing with members - you can't put them offside for a couple of decades then rely on trust me bro.

I honestly don't see anything too outrageous on here, broadly supportive. Some less so and some more, some valid questions (ie. there are zero guarantees that we can see that we won't end up playing the WA teams 4 times over there after next year).

Nope. We are making the same mistakes over and over again. Why is selling home games to WA not making more than the Tassie Deal? Why is it “just covering the short fall”?

The sycophants will jump in to defend it, however, our club is broke as shit and should be working harder to ensure out longevity in the competition. Breaking even or making slim margins is a joke when the AFL team isn’t fully funded.

My only concern was her emphasizing that we are only playing 2 home games in WA, with no additional travel to WA in 2025.

The way she emphasized it, you’d almost guarantee it means we’re playing away games there in the years after meaning we’ll end up playing 3-4 games in Perth per year.
