I think Judds time as a director is fraught with misnomers and vagaries.

For a start it was a part time position, and criticisms were that he was never seen. Well, it was part time and he wasn't needed to be seen. What he did say publicly the club acted in the opposite and he was shown to be right. Granted, there wasn't much he did publicly, but the one he did he was ultimately correct.

I'm not convinced it was a Judd issue but rather a mismanaged position at the time. Footy director probably shouldn't be a part time role. Maybe it was done that way to facilitate Judd who has said in the past his motivations are beyond just footy. If so, that's not a Judd fault, it's a board fault for facilitating something that doesn't actually work.

I could see Judd as president but I'd want his full commitment and his motivations to be sound. If so, I think he'd be excellent in the role.


I'm sorry, the vague accusations above that maybe he's not so smart and that's coming from a guy who is going for president but 2 posts later isn't, but I can't actually say anything, isn't a convincing case.

Maybe, but until they appoint someone, you can put up any name you like. The Judd discussion is largely around Judd's competence or lack thereof.

The very skillset that got us into shitsville and kept us there. Egos, shortcuts and short term thinking and decision making. Sayers was there for a lot of it. The only credit he and the board gets from me is the appointment of Cook to short circuit that merry go round. They knew it wasn't working but needed experienced counsel on how to fix it, issue by issue.

Wright had a lot to rectify at Collingwood, so I expect he'll be prepared for the hard work of running the footy club. I still can't believe I'm supporting a Collingwood dude as CEO. It went so well last time.

I have the luxury and privilege (I guess) of being able to 'short' stoopid in RL and there are no shortages of opportunity on that side...

eg I mean could anyone script or imagine a more bizarre exit for a Club President? So ( once again) real life is stranger than fiction....better to maintain one's own dignity and apply some perspective within the context - maybe getting faffed over nuffydom is a waste of energy.

I know the media served it up to him over his 'training wheels' comment, but I can't help but feel he was thrown under the bus on that one.

Didn't do much wrong, just didn't do much. For whatever reason he did not take the opportunity to step up and make a big positive impact. Board spots are no less valuable than list spots. From memory even his attendance record was ordinary. Happy to stand corrected on that point if I am mistaken.

Very very smart man. Football acumen impeccable.

He has already spent an elongated period in the board, and did little. Its simply a No, unless we are focused on Juddchella and Juddvestments

I think this ignores just how bad we were as a club, and the monumental amount of work that has gone into turning us around over the last decade. It hasn't all been smooth sailing, but we've been headed in the right direction. 2015 was when we started to change course. 10 years ago!
LoGiudice's board (of which Sayers was a part) did a massive amount of work stabilising the club, but made big mistakes with the Liddle and Teague appointments. When Sayers took over he righted those two mistakes.

Sayers, has been on the Carlton board for many years. Since 2012, and overseen, voted on Ratten sacking, Malthouse, Bolton, Teague and now Voss.

Also adding CEO changes Swann, Trigg, Liddle and now Cook.

Cook by far, his best appointment. The only achievement worth crowing about

Can't really give too much away...would get me into trouble with someone. Let's just say...he's much better at giving the appearance he's a very, very smart guy than actually being so. Not saying he's incompetent or would be a disaster...but sometimes things aren't always as they seem.

Malthouse was appointed over a month before Sayers joined the board, so no he didn’t vote on the Rattan sacking.

I’m not generally a fan of affirmative action for its own sake. Much happier to see merit based appointments. In this case I’d be thrilled if the best person for the job turned out to be a woman. Feels like something we need.

IIRC, at the time when Juddy was not he board as Football Director, younger players on the list commented that they had never met him and he didn't make an efffort to meet the newbies. General consensus was that he was largely unsighted at a football level.
Diesel on the other had got down and dirty when he started. Got right amongst it with the players at training. Still does I believe.

He sure does. I remember watching the warm up at an open training session last year, and Diesel was there shooting out his bullet like handballs to the players.

It's fair to say he's still the best exponent of the handball at the club.....just ask him

Be a tough ask for someone who is currently an assistant coach at Hawthorn.

Even if he wasnt I doubt that he would make a good pres or would want to be one. There would be plenty of roles at the club that he would be perfect for though should he be interested. Let's hope that it happens one day.

Mark Maclure would have been a good choice who loves the club take no crap and been in the Media although just heard has early signs of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Mike Fitzpatrick would be a great choice and someone like like Justin Madden how about Adrian Gleeson, David Glascott or Tom Alvin.
