I think he will stay because the trade will not get done. They will not be able to offer us a high enough pick.

Then we back in our new coaching department to turn it around. It's happened before. And it will happen again.
I'll take this.

Nope. The power is all with Chad. We would have to pay out the next year of his contract if we were to nullify it and move him without his consent.
I don't think AFL contracts let you do that and why would you stuff around your 2019 TPP up and be a player short?

This whole thing was a huge decoy by the club to shake loose Burton. Chad never wanted to go and we always wanted to keep him! Eat a dik Clarko!

Lol this would be the best timeline, alas...

Big V, tradition, blockbuster, cLERKO.

Pretty much the same way they 'won' their threepeat. Every advantage under the sun, direct line to the CEO, Very influential people in AFL House with strong ties to their club.
* Ex CEO Mark Evans becames GM Footy Operations before shipped off the the GC to save AFL's baby
* AFL brokered deal to get ex Hawk to become coach at Brisbane
* Ex President at Hawks after Kennett's first terms, Andrew Newbolt was appointed to the Commission within a couple of months of finishing up as prez. Is now #2 behind chairman Richard Goyder.
* Other ex Hawks serve in several key positions and committees at AFL.
* Ex CEO of Hawks Stuart Fox is CEO at MCG, helps with their stadium yield.

That's what happens when you win lots of premiership and have that 20 year run from 1971-1991 for 8 flags. The successful 20-30-40 year olds from that era become powerful and/or influential 40-50-60 year olds at HQ and around the game.

If Chad had nominated Gold Coast instead of Hawthorn, does anyone think they wouldn't have surrendered pick 3 in a heartbeat?

This is his worth. Anything less is unders and should not be accepted.

I'd be asking for 2 as well. Look at Weller last year. I wouldn't waste a third rounder on him.

Would like this to be true but I don't share your optimism.
Murphy's law, first corollary - If you can be shafted, you will.

I still can't believe both clubs are trading contacted players who don't want to leave for a trade that is unpopular with both supporter groups.

Fourth estate fodder. Keep the masses intrigued post season, bugger the Gregorian calendar welcome to the new afl order.

So can one of our Melbourne based Big Footyites please give Cripps and Davies copious amounts of alcohol tonight to the point they’re too sick to go in tomorrow and Wingard stays by default?

That or kidnapping, whichever floats your boat.
