He had a kornesque like game- acquired a lot of touches but didn't do much with them.

Those kornesque like games that won him All Australian titles :p

nah Jacobs was good started plays but the plays broke down later on so he didn't get the praise for it

Whilst I agree his kicking wasn't great, 71% DE suggests he was pretty decent with the ball.

p.s. everyone was saying how good Levi Greenwood was his DE was 58%

Stats mean *** all. Stats can't measure the impact players have on a game. How do you measure the importance of a Judd. Looking at his stats and DE he is far from being the best player in the comp but anyone that waches him play can see how influential he is for Carlton. An example of how ridiculous stats are can best be described using an example of last weeks game against West Coast. Remember the kickout where Pittard took a risk by playing on and running out with the ball. He broke down the zone and passed it to Kornes who only needed to use the forward momentum to bang the ball down long. Instead of kicking straight down the middle he kicked it 20m out to a player 25m from the goalsquare on the boundary line, which undid all the great work that Pittard did and left Port in exactly the position they didn't want to be in. However, that miserable play was registered as an effective disposal.

Out:
Phillips- spud. it's gotten to the stage where it's just comical seeing him lose his feet. he's not much better in the air either i swear i saw him butcher multiple uncontested marks today. I get it this is a rebuilding stage for the club and all but you've got to ask the question- would this guy be in a premiership team? no. so why are coaching staff wasting their time on this guy when you've got players like Surjan and Motlop sitting on the sideline making room for him.

While I agree that he may not make it long term and his game today wasn't his best I think he has been fairly good in the last month. He still did some good things today I thought. He would be a bit stiff to get dropped in my opinion.

Like what?

Ben Jacobs' good points: Gets lots of the ball.
Ben Jacobs' bad points: Horrifically bad kick, even over short distances to uncontested opponents. No idea what he's doing defensively.

Being a ball magnet can't be a bad thing for an 18 year old?! You guys are expecting too much of a 4th game player. When these players are making the same mistakes after 50 games complain all you want... until then cut some slack...

.... unless you are 23 like Phillips... being played as an attacking rover/half forward goal kicker who is incapable of doing either role. He was OK today but long term he's not what we need. He has no idea when to take the game on, and seems to lack the confidence to kick at goal. He's beyond fixing.

A good example of stats meaning nothing was Natainuis game today. I reckon he was the reason WCE won.

What I want -

Out: Stewart, Jacobs, Moore, Pittard (Inj.), Carlile (Inj.)

In: Brogan, Salopek, Banner, Salter, Surjan

What we'll get -

Out: Lobbe, Phillips, Pittard, Carlile

In: Brogan, Hitchcock, Davenport, Pettigrew

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO

.... sorry, just had to get that off my chest now in case it really does happen.

Lobbe, Jacobs and D. Stewart need to play out a good part of the rest of the year (i.e. a good 6 or 7 games straight. At the end of that stretch we will know what we have with those guys. Could probably throw Moore and Phillips (and Banner once he actually comes in ) into that equation too.

There's no point playing Hitchcock or Davenport or Ebert - we know what we have there.

Chad will probably come in now to cover Carlile. Chaplin and Trengove to be the main tall defenders, with Chad to play the Chaplin "sweeper" role - with short burst through the middle or up forward.

As much as i want to see Salter played as a forward i think he'll come in for Carlile. Primus made some mention of Salter at The Hanger after the game but i didn't hear all of it.

Agree with those who suggested Lobbe stay in even if Brogan comes back, and use him in D. Stewart's forward role. Despite everything turning to shit today as the game went on i really liked the 3 genuine tall forwards, for the first quarter at least.

Out:

Pittard, Carlile, Hartlett

In: Salter, Chad, Banner

I would love to see Salter play forward but I think he will come in to play Pittard's role as kicker out of the back half. If Pittard didn;t get injured I would have expected to see Salter come in for Carlile.

By the sounds of Primus Brogan will not be up for next week.

You guys are crazy for saying dropping Stewart ...19 games in the guy will come good just get him 1 more season 50 games he will be a star...our forward structure is in shambles he has no chance.

200cms and all that take a bit of time etc

Imagine if buddy and jamar got dropped delisted Jack watts just starting to play well I could go on but why bother...

Our team is shit our youngsters aren't going to look good in a shit team...the only reason other youngsters look good is because they are in teams with A grade players to carry the load...we don't

Salopek, Surjan and Banner in for a start.

The former two look to have finally got their fitness up to an adequate level and Banner, well, has there ever been a kid in greater 2nds form who can't crack a senior game despite the potato farm currently vegetating in front of him?

4th game AFL footballers shouldn't be REGULARLY missing uncontested targets 20 or 30 metres away under no pressure. U16 players shouldn't be making some of the mistakes that Jacobs made today and over the course of the year.

It's sickening. Our midfield gets a thorough spanking every single week and yet we can't seem to find anyone to drop out of that unit to bring someone averaging 30 touches over several weeks in the snaffle in.

Kornes and Thomas are doing sfa week in week out at the moment. How could Banner possibly do worse?

This is the greatest source of beffudlement and concern for me going forward. Our midfield prospects are very, very sparse but surely we could find someone (looking at you 10 possession man Thomas) to drop for Banner.

Primus will almost certainly have to use our first 3 picks on mids this year - hope he actually can recognise midfielders though rather than utility flankers. There is a massive difference and we keep coming up with the utilities and it is killing our list (Moore, O'Shea, Thomas, Paul Stewart, Young, Jacobs).

Out:
Pittard (inj)

IN
Brogan
Surjan
Banner
Salter
Motlop
Cornes????

On notice (nearly the whole squad but inperticular)
Broadbent
Moore

For what its worth i thought Lobbe in ruck did a decent job. And wasnt his fault we were unable to get a clearance.

lol @ people suggesting to drop Lobbe.

We have been calling out for us to play a young Ruckman, we have Lobbe come in who for half a game was very good in the Ruck, but not only that played well around the ground - and we want to drop him?

Idiots.

Out: Carlile (inj), Pittard (inj), Stewart (omitted)
In: Surjan/Salter, Salopek/Banner, Brogan

Buddy was taken at pick 5 and made an impact almost immediately.
Watts was taken at pick 1 and as a 17 year old, the youngest in the draft, so of course he was given patience.
Jamar is a big bodied, brute of a ruck, Stewart is a forward who can play in the ruck.

Stewart was a rookie pick, who is now 23 years old, who can dominate in the SANFL but has had ONE good game in the AFL. You can look at his attributes and salivate all you like, the fact is he just doesn't have the required attitude.

Of course they shouldn't, but I see no point in playing Jacobs in the SANFL where the tempo wont accelerate his development. He can hold his own at AFL level and will only improve given more exposure. He won't be dropped and you know it.

It's OK, statman just doesn't think we should play anyone under the age of 25 under any circumstances unless they're at All-Australian pace.

If Jacobs isn't losing confidence with his crap performances at AFL level, he's the most mentally strong (or mentally stubborn) player in history. If it was me, every time I missed a target on his own 20-30 metres away with neither of us under any pressure I'd be getting down on myself and thinking I'm not good enough for this level (which would make sense, because at this stage Jacobs isn't good enough for this level).

From all reports Jacobs was one of the best kicks in the draft, so his ridiculously bad kicking performances all year in the AFL must be him trying (and failing) to mentally deal with the pressure. Explain that the transition isn't as difficult as he clearly thinks it is (just look at Lobbe), send him back to the SANFL, and tell him that we're not worried about pure numbers so much as we are what he does with the ball. If he uses it well in the SANFL for a week or two to get his confidence back up, then he can come back into the AFL side.

That I agree with. But Nick Salter won't be played forward and I know it too. That doesn't make it a bad idea.

I thought Lobbe had a good game! Wasnt his fault we couldnt win a clearence, especially in the third qtr. What was the clearnce count???
And would look even better with Brogs around.

People saying Jacobs had a good game, he had a good last qtr but he missed targets by miles by hand and foot. Im in no way saying he wont make it or is a spud etc BUT the way the Power are i think it would beifet him more playing for the Magpies and winning games, playing against smaller bodies and getting a heap of the ball etc

Perhaps Jacobs doesn't have the fitness and therefore fatigue is causing him to stuff up the possie's, perhaps the club thinks he will still learn more playing AFL than SANFL.

I saw Jacobs continually demand the ball until the end of the game yesterday (a little bit Korne-esque, but still). This shows he is a confident young man who will continue to work on his game until he improves. He has said as much regarding this in interviews with the media.

I would be more worried about someone like Broadbent or Thomas who not only don't get enough of the ball, but when they do, they invariably butcher it.

Jacobs is a non-selection issue. He stays for now.
