Changes for Round 5?

Bring in Hartlett, he has being playing great as a tall backman. Just what the dr ordered...

We aren't desperate for a tall backman next week against the dogs, and then Jamison should be ready to come back in - no need to rush him in at all.

Lets wait another 5+ games and hope he continues to deliver...but its certainly great news that we may have another good backman on our hands from no where.

This may not be a bad idea to give Hartlett some games at Centre half back and get Waite and Fisher back up forward providing a much more lively forward structure, whilst Cloke will always give his best he is too slow as a Centre half forward, Ratten will probably stick with him but l reckon opposition clubs would not mind this at all, we need to spark up our forward half and l think this week we need to try something quite different to the first four games.

I agree. I personally think our biggest problem is our half forward line. There's no point bringing in players like Carrazzo and Scotland when our current half forward line is not presenting. Against Sydney, we were pissfarting around with it in the half back line with no options. We need someone who can take a strong mark on a lead in the half forward line and Fisher and Waite tick those boxes - Cloke does not. This means Fev plays deep and doesn't have to lead for every ball coming forward. If there were players who present in our half forward line, outside players like Stevens will show how they can deliver example - in traffic against Sydney, he hit Fev with a drop punt on the outside of his right boot on the lead in between two Sydney players - that's skill.

It's obvious that Ratts can't keep play Jacobs, Kreuzer and Cloke in the same team because it's not working.

Idea: try Waite CHF, Setanta or Hartlett CHB, Fisher (if fit) forward and drop Cloke. Setanta is 3rd ruckmen, Kreuzer plays forward when needs rest, Waite drops back if needed and Fisher as a leading half forward - he's got strong hands and can take a mark on a lead. That means we have marking half forwards who hand off to a midfield who can deliver it to Fev where he's kicking from 20 metres out instead of 40-50 out.

Thoughts?

The half forward line is pretty much non existent at the SCG because of the dimensions of the ground.

Wiggins has been presenting well but if he gets rubbed out, we will miss him.

I suspect Jacobs may be dropped this week and Cloke will be used in the ruck so we do need another forward.

Fisher didn't really set the world on fire today.... maybe we can use Waite up forward this week?

C.Johnson out- Scotland in

Joseph out- Carrazzo in

Wiggins (susp)- Setanta in

Stevens out- Bannister in

I have loved Stevens since he came over from Port but ever since he hurt his neck he just isn't as hard and he is poor in transition from attack to defence. Bring Setanta in for Wiggins and let him crash at CHF, his goal-kicking record isn't bad either. Carrazzo will rack them up, maybe his kicking isn't that good but if he has it then the Dogs don't. Johnson isn't as effective as Scotland, no way Scotland should be playing 2's and Bannister will be handy with the likes of Griffen, Cross, Gilbee etc.

Just for people's info Stevie Browne had a massive head clash right on the quarter time siren today. Went down and lay there for a moment before putting his hand to his head - blood everywhere. Came back on with it bandaged and you wouldn't know he had been hurt - kept on hard at it as ever. Think we need some of that grunt across the backline.

Well, I'd need to watch the game first before I can make any decisions on who's in and out

We can win this week if we tackle as hard as we did in the NAB Cup and the first two rounds.

After reading the Dogs board, they appear to be down without Cooney and Murphy giving them a spark and some class.

I thought they looked beatable against the Tiggers.

Only Carlton played a rabble in Richmond and had an easy game in round one. ;)

In: Hampson Browne Scotland Anderson
Out: Jacobs Joseph Johnson Robinson

I hope we pick a pure defender in Anderson for our opponent who have numerous pacy small and medium half forwards.
What I'd give to have two Waites...
How many heart attacks would the coaching panel and Carlton supporters have with two Waites kicking the ball?

Waite isn't SOS. :(

CoonDog and Murphey back next week, IIRC. :(

Cooney was set to miss 1-2 weeks - hopefully they err on the side of caution and he misses against us.

Murphy came back today for Williamstown but was apparently underdone. In the past he's taken a while to find his feet after injury, so I'm not sure I'll be too worried if they decide to play him.

time to swing some changes.

out: Johnson (to many errors), Robinson (rest), Jacobs (good determination, will be a good player, but needs a rest), Joseph (rest), Armfield, Wiggins if susp

in: Scotland, Carrazzo, Yarran, Fisher, O'Hailpin, Hampson

In: Hampson, Scotland, Browne
Out: Jacobs, Robinson, Johnson

Not a fan of huge change but think we need to make 2 or 3 this week. Fisher and Yarran struggled today from most reports so here's hoping the Wiggler doesn't get rubbed out. One more week in the Bullants for Carrots me thinks also.
