Is he quicker than Tremlett? Can't believe a guy that looks so menacing bowls so docile.

Like a doberman that meows like a kitten.

A bit. Generally bowls 135-140, and can get up to 145 but just bowls it around the 137-9 km/h mark for about 10 overs

Didn't think I'd be saying this six months ago but Bresnan will offer the extra batting depth for whoever fills in for Trott. Might just be a safety to add a couple more if (presumably Ballance) doesn't get up.

He'll get absolutely smashed if they play him.

medium pacers on adelaide always get tonked.

Yep Tremlet surely will be better for the run in Brisbane. Such a tall man will be able to extract bounce off that deck.

The form of Prior and Swan, I'm talking about with the bat by the way, is the big concern for them. If they were both going alright you could almost back in Broad and Swan to make enough runs if the top order were to fire and they could pick Penasar as the replacment for Trott.

Swan's bowling bad form is also a concern, because the both of them are world class in form.

I know I'm suggesting England take a risk there, but I think they need to. If Australia win or draw this game they will go on to win the series and claim the Ashes back. With Johnson bowling the way he is I can't see England surviving on the Perth wicket and Australia could be heading into Boxing day 2-nil up.

This will be a game changer as they can then sit back and wait to take advantage of England over stretching to win both of the last two games.

Surprised people don't rate bresnan, the bloke was a key bowler towards the end of the last ashes here 3 years back.

11 wickets@19 in the last two tests(including 4/50 in the innings that helped england retain the ashes) yet people are talking like he's never played a test on our pitches.

Very different conditions. It was a very cool summer, almost English last time. The ball swung all day and as a result Bresnan became very effective. Without the ball swinging much in hotter conditions I don't rate him as much. Handy bat though, and better than Finn/Tremlett.

Now Panesar's a possibility? Seems like a replica of Australia's selection woes in India.

Pretty much the top 7 except Rogers will flay him around the park. Pressures all on Broad if Anderson doesn't get going, Swann's in a rut and a barely fit Bresnan wouldn't do much in Adelaide.

Panesar has always been an option. If I were picking Englands side I'd have him and Swan. You just have to look at who is taking the wickets in SS this year, mostly spinners. And Australia were piss poor on the turning decks in India so what makes you think we'll flay him around the park?

Poms should go Stokes and Panesar for Tremlett and Trott. Am I the only one that sees that?

Agree and thorugh in Bairstow for Prior potentially although I don't like the odds of him keeping to 2 spinners, especially if it turns so Prior may just hang on. They desperately need to freshen up and try something new as their holes aren't able to be papered over much longer.

Bressie can score some runs and is a better bowler than Stokes.

Perhaps they think Root's tweakers will be enough to support Swann. I hope Smithy is practising landing them..

I reckon he's a bit ordinary, and in fact I was glad they didn't give him too much tap at the Gabba, that means he'll get a decent bowl this test you'd reckon.
