He picked us in the prelim
I actually think that King and Cousin of Daicos chave had a fair bit in common. Had us as really good things early season, then when we got the wobbles started stressing out and negatively focussing on all the reasons that we might not win. But still appears to be in our corner and wants us to win - I get the feeling that he had a heavy punt and stands to win a lot on the Nick Brownlow and Collingwood Premiership double if it comes through.

I feel the same. As it was in 2003, 2004, it's a talent laden Lions line up against a gritty, courageous hardworking TEAM called Collingwood. McStay is a big ,loss but I had to smile when King lay down the stats from the last ten weeks which indicate that McStay has been the forward whose contests have led to the most goals in the AFL! One in two of McStay's contests have resulted in a goal to Collingwood.

Suddenly, Dan is the most potent go to forward in the competition, just when we lose him! Why didn't King pull out that stat before Friday night's clash? All year it's been our hardworking forward line doing the job but now Dan is out he becomes an irreplaceable goal creating machine!

It's all a part of the build up, everything is over the top, over hyped and catastrophic.
King is the master at using useless stats to try and prove something that makes him look like a genius.

The last 15 games Brisbane have played at the mcg they have won 1 game.
Good point. The only game they won in that time was in the semi against Melbourne, when the Demons were totally clapped out.I reckon every other side in the 8 would have beaten Melbourne that night.

I was waiting on us to switch on come finals

Which we basically have

Not sure if it requires a thread or not, but if we win, who do you think should present the Cup to McRae and Darcy?

For me, the best 3 options are:

1) Nick Maxwell - Last premiership captain hands to the next one
2) Peter Moore - Former Captain who lost Grand Finals hands it to his Premiership Captain son
3) Peter Daicos - The "fan option". Legend of the club who gifted us two champion sons that have helped drive the team to this position

My heart says Daicos, my head says Maxwell, the father in me says Moore lol

And one more factor - possibly the most significant: have the Lions played a game this year in front of a crowd of more than 50,000? Yet alone a crowd of 100,000 who are as hostile as we can muster?

The GF crowd will not be as hostile as we’ve managed in the two finals to date. We don’t have the numerical dominance when the AFL insists on allocating tickets fairly to every category and sub-category of fans, clubs, sponsors etc. While we Pies fans will do our best to infiltrate all areas, the Lions fans and most ‘neutral’ supporters will be against us. If anything, we may number less.☹️

So the solution is to be louder and more obnoxious than the rest, and I’m confident we can do that.😜

Daics is my all time favourite but on this occasion I would like to see Peter Moore present to Darcy (if we win ;) )

Were you at the 2018 Grand Final?

Was actually incredible loud. Surprisingly so. I'm expecting a similar level this weekend.

Watch the replay on Kayo (if you can), it was pretty loud.

I was there but most of the memory has been deleted.

On this topic, my memory of the 2010 draw was that the St Kilda fans, and opposing neutrals, did a pretty good job of competing with us for noise. Maybe it also depends on where you’re sitting.

On SEN this morning they raised the point that Grand finals are always characterised by someone unexpected bobbing up with a great performance or a few goals.

Who do you think will be that person?
Threadworthy question.

Beau McCreery to kick 4 and rip the game open with some searing runs and run downs.

The word unexpected kind makes this tricky.

I would argue that one of Cox, Mihocek, Elliott, Hill or Ginnivan bobbing up with 3-4 goals wouldn't really be unexpected. All of them have done so in big games and finals previously.

So if we're choosing someone truly unexpected tearing a Grand Final apart I'm gonna go with either:

Beau McCreery - Grand Finals are tough and hard fought and there aren't many tougher than Beau. He's had a pretty quiet finals series and might just take it upon himself to crack skulls and take the game by the scruff of the neck using his brute strength and unbelievable speed to take the game apart

Billy Frampton - Nothing complicated here. Maybe we pick Billy as a like for like necessity to replace McStay and he takes his opportunity to become a totally unexpected Grand Final hero and cement himself in Grand Final (and Collingwood) folklore

The footy we have played these past 2 seasons under Fly and his coaching group has been something to behold.

From the Buckley era coaching the the smoking ruins of the Beams / Treloar trade deals we have emerged with a style of footy which has been fun, exhilarating, breath taking, tense (edge of your seat stuff) but above just great to watch and be part of as a supporter

Whoever takes the field on Saturday I'm gonna be behind 1000% regardless of my own misgivings on who might / should be selected. The coaching group deserve full credit to get us to where we are at.

Jamie Elliott for Norm Smith Medal with a record 7 goals

Go PIES !!!!

this my line up at this stage:

FB: Quaynor Moore Howe
CB: Maynard Murphy Pendles
C: JD Crisp Markov
CF: Hill Checkers Nick Daicos
FF: Elliott Cameron McCreery
R: Cox JDG Mitchell
INT: Noble Ginny WHE Side
SUB: Adams

Are we so sure there isn't a suitable match up for Howe?

I see a potential few.

Markov vs Cameron
Maynard vs Rayner
Quaynor vs Bailey
Howe vs McCarthy
Murphy vs Hipwood
Moore vs Daniher
Naicos/WHE/Noble vs Ah Chee

For those of us not lucky enough to get tickets, does anyone have any experience with the 'Fan Zones' I.e. Melbourne Park Oval and Yarra Valley Oval? Specifically whether or not they are recommendable and sell beer?

Here's an issue for us: Cox needs to be our primary ruck. Streets ahead of Cameron. Will dominate against McInerney. Cameron cannot play forward. He is not a forward. Tough call to be made who that next tall is. If it's not Frampton, if it's not Kreuger, then Reef looks like the next best.

Cameron kicked 20 goals last year. He kicked 22 in 2021.

Cox has only beat that mark once in 2018 with 25.

The key for Cameron being successfully used up forward is his marking and that has been off for the majority of the year.

However he took 8 marks against GWS so perhaps it might have come good at just the right time for us.

Neither ruck is going to be used solely up forward or in the ruck and it'll be very much a joint effort to beat McInerney.

I am less than confident about this game, particularly since losing McStay. Their forward line is potent, whereas we go into the game missing a vital tall piece and with 3 small forwards who really failed to fire last week. All this talk about having a make shift setup with the rucks or with Howe playing forward and then relying on the small forwards to feed off crumbs does little to boost my confidence. To be honest, I am surprised we are favourites to win. We have nothing to lose by taking a chance and playing Kreuger.
very interesting analysis by King on SEN this morning.
In our recent games ( last 10) McStay has been the most efficient fwd 50 target in the game.
Of the 30 occasions he's been targeted 50% have resulted in Goals.
Clearly he either marks, holds off opponents with his size and/or creates a spill.

This tells me he needs to be replaced with a big body, who can't be outsized, and force a spill when a mark is not possible.

A small fwd line is not going to cut it.

Also said that during finals Cox has had 13 HTA ( on par with Big O) and Cameron just 3.
