Yeah, some very simplistic views on Keays here. He has limitations around disposal/decision making, but those are being magnified as a product of the role he's playing in our D grade, poorly balanced midfield. He's an inside extractor with a K:HB ratio that should look closer to 2:3 than the ~3:2 he's running at.
Put quality around him and get the balance right and he's a piece you keep as far as i'm concerned - think Matt Priddis.
For all his strengths (energizer bunny) and flaws (kicking skills & decision making), right now he's our best midfielder.

The fact that such a flawed footballer could be (is) our best midfielder is a condemnation of our list management. In a good team he would be our 4th or 5th best mid, but Keays is currently Adelaide's #1. This lack of elite midfield talent remains Adelaide's greatest weakness as the rebuild continues.

Anyone else feel like Gollant is about to have a blinder this week? I love the confidence and cockiness that kid plays with
I hope so, but am wary of the post showdown hangover for him and the team, especially when coming off such a euphoric win. But again, as said, I am hopeful and anticipate that the showdown hangover has been addressed by the club. In this regard I think the 9 day break should be helpful!

Yep

Surely this was time for a quiet in on the team sheet with no fanfare, simply listed with the other changes at 6pm on Friday

Broadcasting it / celebrating it just acts as a lightning rod for those who thought he got off lightly

I did wonder if the Showdown was deliberately scheduled inside the first three rounds
Interesting that Nicks said something similar in his presser this morning.

Here's both their draft profiles for comparison...

Without the advantage of hindsight in all do you really honestly think it was clear cut?

A shame we didn’t pick this Jones!!

Leadership? Seems very introverted, even now like a boy among men mentally

accumulation? No need to comment

Tackling?

And ability to move through congestion?

His draft profile is a mile away from actual

The leadership one is a real shock - Will be interesting to see if he can rediscover that to help improve his game

Gee, some of the replies on Twitter to the club announcing his comeback are remarkable. Basically, they still want to cancel him and couldn’t give two shits about anything he has done to improve his understanding of indigenous culture since then.

It's probably better to do it quietly, the right thing to do, sure. Maybe you lead with a "heres what he's done since and this is why he's back" article/video.

But let's not pretend that the people who will be booing Walker in the coming weeks aren't mostly the same people who would have booed Adam Goodes or would be cheering on Tex if he played for their club and had done the same thing.

We do it too, there are issues involving Port players where maybe they've done something towards a woman or other peoples cars and we blow it up to be the most disgusting human behaviour ever because we get to have shots at Port, but we'd play it down if it was a Crows player.

It's like people will use racism or being offended as a tool to attack Walker and the Crows, because they don't like Walker and the Crows, more than they actually don't like racism/the thing they are offended at, if that makes sense. I'm not sure that's any better than being an actual racist anyway.

I don't know, I just think unless you've always been perfect and always will be perfect, add some value to the conversation instead of throwing insults and memes.

But hey, I'm just as bad because in all likelyhood if Tex played for the Power I'd probably be complaining about "the media cover up" or something instead of writing this post.

Some rare objective analysis and self-reflection.

People that keep putting Benny down will continue to look more clueless the longer they keep it up.

Ben Keays would now get a gig in any AFL team, all he ever needed was the opportunity which Adelaide have afforded him

And those pushing Tim Taranto need a reality check if they think he offers more than Ben Keays..He clearly doesn't.

People don't rate Keays? He's the player I'm most worried about from your midfield.

Yes, it's all about perspective and which side of the fence you're on.
Your openness and honesty regarding your own subjective perceptions and responses is really refreshing. Kudos!

There are plenty in here and from other Clubs who are not prepared to give Tex a clean slate, which says plenty about them and nothing at all about Tex.

Tex, WELCOME BACK!! :D

I hope he gets a bag of four goals or more in an exciting game played (and watched/appreciated) in good spirit.

Why does it say tier 1 werewolf player? Have you been demoted from tier Eth?

Don't you know that you've got to leave werewolf for a couple of years to get the 'S' tier rating.

The issue is he is our best mid.

Melbourne's best mid is/are Oliver and Petracca.

That is the gap in midfield class we need to fill in.

Keays would be in Melbourne's best 22. On par with Viney?

IMO yes currently he is our best mid but there is no way he'd be as far back in the pecking order as 4th or 5th mid in too many AFL teams on his output in 2021/22.

At best, in a good team, he'd be the 3rd best midfielder. 4th is more likely.

He's competent, and I'm certainly not calling for him to be dropped (or anything so stupid) - but the fact that he's our #1 is symptomatic of the problems facing the Crows at present.

But his output would change.

Also his best game this year was the Showdown. Made some great plays, no glaring errors.

Statistically his worst. With Laird in and Schoenberg attending the most CBAs and both getting more ball.

We want a guy like Keays to be 3/4/5th rung, because it means overall our midfield is improving.

Sorry but I can't agree with that, he's become an excellent midfielder now he's been afforded the opportunity. Anyone would think he was a 30 year old with no scope for improvement the way some talk on this board....He's not.

Edit :

He also doesn't have the luxury of Max Gawn and Luke Jackson putting the pill down his throat every game like Petracca/Oliver.

At least the game is roughly similar. Bring some heat to the contest and Essendon will fold. That said, away trip for a young side after a big win (compared to where the club is at) has all the makings of a down performance coming up.
Last year's game against them still haunts me, that was a horror show
