According to the AFL website's list of rule changes:
https://www.afl.com.au/about-afl/history/rule-changes

Before then I think the only markings on the ground were the goal squares, centre circle, and centre square. I don't remember seeing any 25m arcs painted on the ground in the video footage I've seen of those old games.

Maybe you should be addressing that question to some of the board's senior citizens (of whom there seem to be many, if the Generations thread is anything to go by.

NO 25 metre arcs drawn. 50 metre arc was the only one introduced.

But what are you basing your opinion on that we'll trade him at season's end?

Only way I see that happening is if he wants out or we offer him an unacceptable deal.

I think he'll get an offer from another team and take it. We have tried him as a Forward, a Defender and now a Mid. Not sure we can unlock what talent he has for the reasons I stated earlier. I see our forwards as TT, Berg/McAsey/Worrell in the future.
I expect McAsey to sign a 2 year deal with us. He seems to be enjoying himself a lot more these days.

Well, if you are right - and Fog leaves for another team (I don't see Nicks being part of that scenario myself) - I'll be shocked, and I think we will regret it.

Which team wouldn't want him? He's not commanding a massive salary yet, would be a big list management decision to let that sort of talent walk out.

I hope McAsey stays and plays his role in defence for the next 10 years!

We were? We were leading for most of the game.
The great start gave us a scoreboard lead.

We lost more than 2 and a half quarters.

The game turned when Tex played on to give out a cheapie after Fogs free.

Almost like the North Boys thought "you are not playing Bruise Free Footy today"

From that point till the last quarter North were on top, game on their terms.

To our credit we broke them early in the last.

I reckon winning like we did is better for a developing team than winning in a way that sees Tex kick two goals in the first two minutes.

why are people calling for McHenry to be dropped?

same old bullshit. Any chance to whinge. We need to get games into these kids as fast as possible.

If we were smart he's playing 15+ games.
We need games into kids, not drop them because they give away a 50...

It was Tony's attitude that was so scary. I remember very clearly in the Crows first season, he was standing Rodney Maynard. Before the game started they shook hands and Tony said to Rodney, "Lets have a clean game Rodney, no dirty hits and we have a beer after the game. If you play dirty I'll put you in hospital." True story, straight from Rodney's mouth. No cameras in those days. 1 Umpire IIRC or might have been 2 at the most. Nowadays, cameras and 3 or 4 umpires.
Geez Fogarty would be even slower and less agile if he was larger. Big and slow doesn't work in today's game. Big and extremely mobile does.
Nik Cox is the protype big man that can play anywhere. Our recruiters have been very slow to this realisation. Tbh if we got pick 2 for crouch(which was never happening) i would have liked us to go Cox along with McDonald or Thilthorpe. The bonus with Cox is that he can play back, forward, wing, ruck. He is lightning quick and has sublime skills along with being a great contested mark. Cox may have been the best selection in hindsight at pick 2. Time will tell.

Lockett: 1360 goals, 590 behinds = 69.7% accuracy
Fogarty: 29 goals, 5 behinds = 85.3%

Nope, I'm still sticking with Fogarty for accuracy. Amazing as Lockett was, Fogarty is in a whole class above him.

But also consider the conditions that Plugger was playing in. Water logged footy's and mud pits. None of this under the roof business with a new footy after each point is kicked.

Not arguing that Fog is not an outstanding kick for goal, but Plugger gets my vote.

I saw him play. He is/was/always will be one of the absolute greats - a true Legend of the Game. I am not seeking to take anything away from his greatness or legend.

But when you look at the stats, he missed the target 30.3% of the time, compared to Fogarty's miss rate of 14.7%.

Didn't 'The Future' also kick his first 15 or 20 shots for goal in AFL?

That alone should be enough evidence that the sample size isn't big enough as yet.

How about one of you young stats blokes go back and find out in how many AFL games Fogarty has kicked more than 3 goals? I haven't got the time to do it myself ATM. Just interested.
Fun Facts with Grotto

In 24 games, Fogarty has kicked bags of 5,3,2,2,2,2

6 games of 2+

plus last week's haul of 3 goals. So 25 games, 7 games of 2+ goals

What I'll never understand is once a kid is gassed in their first year they are managed but still play SANFL. Why aren't they rested and rehabbed without playing for a couple of weeks and then return via the SANFL with a view to more AFL games rather than having them see out the year in the 2s.

I'd like to see berry rested for a week and then brought back for another 3-4 week spell in the AFL. Unless they want him to have a week getting his hands on the ball, play him in the firsts...

What's the differences between Cox and Thilthorpe? Why did we (and most others) have TT ahead?

Vader has taken a cricketer who has scored 270 test runs at an average of 67.5 and said “This guy is in a whole class above Ricky Ponting in terms of his batting average.”

He has taken something that is literally correct and applied it in a context where it completely does not matter.

It’s hard to put into words how stupid that was. It actually does a disservice to both Fogarty and Lockett, which is no mean feat.

I don't know, or care, what Butcher did.

Fogarty's accuracy figures are taken from a small sample size, but those samples were taken across a 3 year period. That indicates that it's not a fluke, or a brief period of abnormally good form.

Sunday was his 3rd bag of 3+ (R12 & 13 2019, R4 2021). He also has 8 bags of 0.

For comparison, Walker has 24 bags of 0, from 207 games - 11.6%. Fogarty has 8 from 25 - 32%.

To the same point in his career (25 games), Walker had kicked 47 goals, with 7 bags of 3+, and only 5 bags of 0.
