What shit me.. I listenned to Nicksy’s presser yesterday..

God I wanted to punch him for his pathetic excuses for Benny and what he did in that last play.. just loser talk and utter bullshit..

He reaconed that Benny missed delivering that kick to either tex or himmelberg because he hasnt yet spent enough time playing with tex and himmelberg to know exactly what tex and himmelberg would do and where they wanted benny to deliver it to them.. reacons that two years hasnt been long enough to build that synergy (i think thats the word he used) between them all to know where to kick to with that last play of the game!..

WHAT AN ABSOLUTE LOAD OF HORSESHIT.

Benny simply did what benny always does on a very regular basis when streaming towards the forward line.. he fu**n panicked, didnt have the calmness or poise to make the correct decision and thus he fu**n blew it.. kicked it straight onto the chest of an opponent.

GAME OVER.

Nicksy, and the Keays cheersquad in here, can make all the excuses they like but we see exactly what Ben did in those dying seconds of the game atleast a couple or more times in every game from Ben.. at least 7 out of every 10 times ben takes possession and streams toward, or into, our forward 50 the ball either ends up being turned over (sometimes kicked straight onto the chest of an opponent), kicked out of bounds or wasted on a failed wild attempt on goal.

You want to see this club play and win finals again?.. you need to accept the fact that we need our midfield youth to, in the next couple of years, overtake benny.

Or its gonna be a very long decade for us and the club.

Basic facts.. sometimes they can be hard for some to swallow..
Ive got and im sure no one else has any issue if ben is pushed out due to being overtaken, he just wont be the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd to go at the current state of form.

It was also at a time when there was omnipresent conjecture about the contract status of all our great players (ohhh for those days..when we had great players…)

Tex was signing contracts a year out from expiry, while every other bastard was playing the club like a violin.

That was a big reason.
I remember thinking at the time all of Tex, Rory and Danger would have been captain at any other club.

a few people suggesting Gollant will be dropped for Filthy. I hope not as Gollant is the type of player who needs to play 4-5 games straight to build up his confidence at this level.

He is one player who i would not be dropping. Same with Cookie. He needs 4-5 on the run.

I would be bringing in Berry for Harry - the former is playing really strong fast breakaway footie from the contest. Something we are missing atm. Harry is lacking confidence and needs a pressure release for a few weeks.

I would also bring in Strauchnie and play two rucks. ROB needs some cut out and hopefully that will improve his performance. Strauchnie has nearly been our best SANFL player in the trials and home away season. I would drop one of the smalls for him to play.

I would also think about dropping Chayce. He is making too many basic mistakes and not having the influence on the game he was last year. Hammil has been very good in the last few weeks and deserves a chance. Sloaney wont get dropped so he could also be played in the back half. He has at Under 18 level played some key defensive roles on players like Chris Yarran when he played for Vic Metro against WA.

Tex was and will always be AFC
Sloane was flagging loyalty bonus $ rewards for commitment as a one club player
Danger was the great example of what’s “in it for him” to massage his big ego and boof head ( still love his talent)

Anyhow Captain Sloane named for this game I guess

Keays is terrible horrible no good and very bad
I’ve watched this a few times Clamster.

Himmelberg was a bigger idiot than Keays by an order of magnitude. Keays was committed to the kick before Berg had even moved. Berg should’ve been leading into space well before that. Berg was almost on his own, the Essendon defenders were all about what Tex was doing.

That doesn’t let Keays off the hook though. I have no idea who the **** he was kicking it to.

Now I’m going to do that really endearing thing where I quote myself again.

I’ll stop doing it when I stop being right.
He will kick goals and take marks occassionally.

But the type of player he is, he will always, always let you down on the big stage.

Jenkins was this exact type of player btw, and he was a lot better than Himmelberg.

Agree on his lack of experience. Dawson wins on that measure.

Four things I've noticed though about Josh that helps my claims about his potential for captaincy.

Firstly, he appeared to want the Murphy kick after the siren. Shows confidence and courage and preparedness to take responsibility. These are excellent leadership traits.

Secondly, the gut punch last week when he was getting some"attention". Shows courage, warrior mentality and "take no crap" attitude. If he can control this properly, these too, are excellent leadership traits.

Next, he has self belief and confidence to WANT to lead. When I listen to him speak or watch him away from the ball, he presents himself extraordinarily well simply as a young man. Certainly not Mr Cellophane. Very impressive and I expect to only see this grow.

Lastly, Josh performs under pressure. Since being our "prize draftee", he could not have done anything to be more impressive as a young man and footballer. Set shots, snaps, getting up the field to help out...the guys been unbelievable for a first year rookie who hasn't even had the luxury of a couple of SANFL games to find his feet. He has simply gone BANG! into the big time.

I like all the variables here on BF but if you're not excited by Josh Rachele, it's not Josh Rachele's fault.

I'm on the bandwagon...
Lord, I AM excited about him... no doubt about it. Just think it's too early to put that much pressure on him. Captain material? Absolutely.

This was before then when all three were at the top of their game.

I gotta agree. Nick's making excuses is starting to really piss me off. He missed the kick as he has poor execution and it has nothing to do with not being used to playing playing with certain players. Is Nick's scared to say it as it is or stupid?

Jones for Hamill feels like a no brainer. He's also pretty quick, better in the air and he hits the contest harder in general. His kicking isn't as good as Jones but I'd back him to at least find the footy which is more than I can say for Chayce.

I don't think anyone disputes that we need better mids and they need to be better players than Keays (or at least a different, classier type of player with better skills).

However as it stands he's winning our B&F this year, is our best mid,and he will still be in our team long past Sloane, Crouch etc.

If he wasn't playing Sunday, it wouldn't have mattered about that kick at the end, because we'd have been behind by about 5 goals.

Probably will depend on whether Hinge is out. If not, I agree. Hamill looks good in the 2s last week

Or he was cooked from working his absolute backside off for the whole game carrying our dud midfield and missed the kick? Don’t throw all the blame on Keays, we have bigger problems than him.

Exactly! This attack on Keays is ridiculous.

Or he's backing his player in public, as all good coaches do... while being more honest behind closed doors.

Did you watch the "Making Their Mark" documentary? One of the big things to come out of it was the huge disconnect between what the coaches said to the media, and what they said behind closed doors. Often they were two diametrically opposite things.

Interesting watching that footage that everyone, including all the Essendon defenders and Himmelberg thought Keays was going to Tex. Berg was so sure it was going to Tex he followed his defender who’d left him alone… to Tex. Genius.

Then Keays sprung the ultimate surprise and kicked it to none of them.

There will come a time over the next 12 to 18 months where Nicks needs to shift from "culture manager" to "football coach". I'm not saying he can't or won't, or that he's hasn't been the right coach for this period of the club's history, but the shift will need to happen.
I have no doubt
He is not a brutal coach he is a HR darn manager
You put a realistic astute coach - yes ruthless how many would survive ?
