Pyke himself said that "No player likes to be managed. But it's for the long term betterment blah blah blah" So Knight has been told management. He doesn't like it. I'm sure Knight thinks it's a bullshit reason.

Even if the club is right and being cautious with him physically is the best thing. That he's a bit sore and playing will only make it worse. Take the sensible approach after all these injuries we've had. Fine. Good. Everyone could understand that.

Except..... if someone tweaks something in the warm up or gets gastro. Then it's long term betterment be damned! Get in there son and rip it up!

I know we're squabbling over semantics now, but there's a big difference between "Knight thinks it's a bullshit reason" and "the club is bullshitting Knight".

Show me a player who is happy with being rested when they think they're still capable of playing. I'm sure Rory Sloane would have played against Sydney and Gold Coast if he was given the opportunity. Sometimes players need to be saved from themselves.

That's true.

Hopefully no one pulls out. Would be terrible to have an injured player out there who would have been better off resting limping around and doing long term damage.

I’ll eat my hat if we make 3 unforced changes for that game.

In: Tex, Sloane, Knight
Out: Fogarty, Gallucci and ???

There is nobody else getting dropped. Selectors relying on an another hammy going perhaps?

Not sure they'll drop Gallucci for Sloane. Reckon one of CEY or Greenwood gets the unlucky call (barring injuries).

But I agree. It will be completely against our playbook to make 3 unforced changes especially when there are so few young players to drop

I don't think he's injured.. just sore. He could play this week if required, but he'll be better off for having the rest - and they want him cherry ripe for the Showdown.

Yes we've established that only Mackay and Otten are capable of playing in more than one role so are always our first go to options as soon as anything opens up
So you would have kept Poholke over Mackay, despite Poholke getting just 8 and 10 touches in his 2 games and only being able to play as a pressure forward at this point in time?

That's basically the choice the selectors were faced with. I'm not Mackay's biggest fanboy, but who to pick out of Mackay and Poholke isn't a hard decision to make when he's not hitting the scoreboard and averaging 9 touches per game.

Yeah I would have. Or played Murphy. Or let our emergency who's being managed but still ok to play if anyone pulls out play.

Mackay as a half forward is no benefit now or ever.

But what others have said is probably right. It will be Milera/mids/wingers getting shunted forward to accommodate Mackay

Agreed. The obvious choice is to drop mackay so the youngster can find his feet

Wow, you really do hate Mackay then if you'd keep Poholke over him when he managed 8 touches and 1 tackle in 80% game time compared to Mackay's 19 touches and 3 tackles from 64% game time.

Yes, possessions aren't everything, but Mackay had 68.4% DE compared to 50% DE for Poholke, so he’s even got him covered there.

I also don’t think any posters said that other players will get shunted forward to accommodate Mackay. What has been suggested is that Mackay will play in their positions while they're resting on the bench.

Between covering Laird, Milera, Kelly, Doedee, Brown, Atkins and Seedsman, I’m sure Mackay will be kept more than busy.

If Poholke sat across half back on the worst forward I'm sure he'd get a few touches too. Half forward is harder.

He may well be sore and actually being rested.

In which case he wouldn't be an emergency though.

I think we're bullshitting him. It's crap that we've picked 8 defenders. Obviously we were too gutless to drop one and have had to squeeze someone else out from another role.

That's Knight.

He knows on merit it's a bullshit call so we've dressed it up as us doing him a favour as he eases into the 2018 season.

Kills two birds with one stone for us. Means we don't have to make a tough, unpleasant call. Plus have a ready-made player to sit out of the SANFL game just in case.

Or he's injured and we're panicking about the hamstring PR. Backing that we'd never have to delve into a 4th emergency player so it's no biggie to name him.

The only way we'll know the truth is by seeing what happens if someone other than Jacobs pulls out sick/injured between now and game time.

Mackay is likely to be pushed out of the backline, so it's interesting that the player who was injured and couldn't run out the game last week replaces the guy that was gut running to the end and it's the latter being rested. Either that or they fear admitting another training hammie. Either way, the management thing is complete bullshit. Most likely is that someone from the wing rotation had to make way for Dmac who doesn't deserve to be dropped on form. Someone needs to be unlucky and Knight it is.

Poholke was always getting dropped, he had an absolute shocker.

However a decision to shunt Dmac to half forward over bringing in an actual small forward (Murphy, Jarman, Davis) is frustrating to say the least. He isnt a small forward at all, no lateral movement, no manic pressure, no exceptional goal smarts and no marking. Basically no skill that would have anyone think he could possibly be a forward.

But we move him there in case someone breaks, in which case we send him in and get a mediocre performance at best.

I'll be even more ropable if we move BOG Milera to the half forward line to accomadate his little spot.

Noticed what football club the caller on 5AA was from. Handoff. a regular caller to the station always has the inside word with a 50% strike rate. But Allways inside information just ask them they will tell you.

But I believe Knight has been rested, and Ben Hart did let it slip he will on call for anyone breaking down in the warm-up.
It make sense when you look at who else do you omit, a sore player who not playing at his best or a fit player who not quite as good.

But one way we will find out either Sat or next week if he did have hamstring issues.

It makes no sense at all. If there's a good reason to give him the week off, then give him the week off. Poholke will be fine against Carlton, the difference between the a sore Knight and Poholke won't be the difference between winning and losing.

If he's not playing SANFL or AFL next week, 100% an injury.

It is extremely suss that we would rest an endurance beast, someone who put up good running numbers both games, with no niggle. After only 2 games...

He is either dropped or injured, I almost hope it is the latter.

Neither Poholke or Knight are in the team vs Carlton.

I don't even buy the argument that they've named an extra defender. Milera has been named on the HBF, and Mackay on the wing. I know the selectors like to play ducks & drakes with where they name the players on the field, but on this occasion I think they've actually named them in position. I expect Mackay to return to the wing, where he's played most of his football over the last 2-3 years.

I think we've named 7 defenders, which is entirely normal for an AFC team. Talia, Otten, Doedee, Laird, Kelly, Brown, Milera.

I nearly posted it after last game. Dmac looked ok in the last half of the 3rd playing in a wing role. I think Milera gas pushed him from the half back role so he had to move up the ground. I posted that prior to the Suns game. I didn't think Knight would make way for him though, but it was always going to be a tough call on someone.

Neither Poholke or Knight are in the team vs Carlton.

I was responding to someone who posted that Knight would come in if we lose a player pre-game. Obviously I'm saying that Knight should just miss entirely and Poholke be the non-playing emergency.

Tell that to Ben Hart as he the one who said it.

Ah ok. I agree. If we're managing Knight, then we should actually be resting him.

Doubt he will be playing AFL next week, Crows will have to Lose, have a bad win, or they have a few Injuries,
With Walker and Sloane both coming back next week he will be 3rd choice.
