Not sure how much you can believe it but the article on the afc website says the sub will come from one of these 5 players (naming the players on the bench)
There has already been two instances noted from last weeks games in the posts above.

Is our mantra of developing 'flexible' players that can play multiple positions the reason our development is so poor? Like it sounds good in theory, but does it actually work? How much is it stagnating Rachele, Soligo and Pedlar by throwing them around the ground? Do other clubs do this or do they have specialist small forwards separate from midfielders?

Nank - good
Butts - understandable
Cook - do. not. understand. Dowling was a billion times better last week, and should be taking the Laird role, with Laird in a back pocket
Parnell- this has some logic, like 1 per cent logic…
Berry - must have been amazing to get that form back on the flight from Perth/ running laps of Optus stadium.

Honestly, how does Dowling not play? Like he is in form, a larger size mid..has shown he can ice a game in the last few minutes…what more does he have to do?
Dowling and Cook play completely different roles, what an odd comparison (and as this board knows, I’m not a huge fan of Cook). It is clear Cook has replaced Pedlar.

Did you watch the sanfl last week? Parnell was good and improves our ability to move the ball better on the outside.

The only confusing selection is Berry over Dowling, they both play a similar role and Dowling is in better form. Makes me think that Berry is sub and didn’t want to start Dowling on debut as the sub.

I think you’ll find all clubs are obsessed with flexibility these days. Also, all 3 you listed were drafted as midfielders that can also rotate forward, I would have thought it’s a common position in the modern game.

Yep. Complete BS. Dowling had to come in.

Not sure we haven’t really given it a go

I would have gone with:
Dowling in: Laird to SANFL (to work on some things ala M Crouch 2023)
Nank in: Smith out
Parnell in: Murphy out
Edwards in: Pedlar out
Butts in: Borlase out
Ryan in: Milera out

"I'll sound again a bit like a weirdo but great art comes out of a level of frustration," Walsh said, while talking about his visit to an art museum in Amsterdam. And I looked at that painting Sunflowers. And for a bogan from Hamilton like myself, I could actually see beauty in that frustration.
So although our fans are frustrated, we're frustrated, we like to think there's some masterpieces still to be painted this year."
The Late Phil Walsh

Mathew Nicks.

Berry into Pedlar's HFF/pseudo mid role
Nankervis onto Sholl's wing
Parnell in for Milera
Butts for Borlase

Which leaves Cook and McHenry fighting it out for Murphy's vacated sub role
Don’t think that’ll be the case if tonight’s drills were anything to go by, Berry in the centre, cook up forward.
Nankervis was on the wing.
Parnell too small to see.
Butts obviously down back

It appears from the outside, there's a recognition we need a quick back pocket .....definitely been lacking, and I miss the days of Stiffy Johncock using his pace to both lockdown and attack ......Max wasn't the answer
I'm also not saying Parnell is the answer either ....just an recognition of an issue

I'm glad my boy Pedlar has been dropped .....is the kick up the arse he needs

Is Keays being named in the midfield, for a specific job .....or a recognition of a midfield needing more defensive action

Glad to see Nank in .....boy has some real talent

The sub will blatantly be one of Cook or Berry. Bookmark it. Because it has already been proven beyond any doubt that a midfield including all of Berry, Laird and Crouch is diabolically stupid, we’ll probably do that again and make Cook the sub.

It really wouldn’t have mattered what changes we made this week, but finding a way to bring in 5 players not named Billy Dowling, when we continue to roll with completely ineffective hacks like Berry

Demons by 78.

Might wanna change your DP ;)

I'd love to see Cook up forward

I think we're wedded to that extra midfielder pushing up from half forward to the stoppages though, which makes our clearance numbers artificially better.

What... the freed up defender was best on? That's completely unrelated

Where were Hinge, Smith, Laird & Berry?
