Lisle would be replacing Martin as a forward who can play in the ruck to give Leunberger a rest. Ace can't play in that role.

Update with Hanley out and Redden back. Sorry still can't find a spot for Polkinghorne. I thought about it for a few seconds and then came to my senses. We need to play the team that will take us into 2014 or we are going backwards with a bullet. I notice some posters persist with Patfull at CHB. He's been in ordinary form this year and it is a dream to think that he can continually give away 5-10cm to the competitions gun beasts and hold his own. His ideal spot is the lock down job on the 3rd tall defender. He's good at that.

I think we need another target up forward. I don't think Martin is being picked for his ability up forward but his rucking ability and his mobility. Lisle is a better option up forward but not as good in the ruck. I hope we pick Lisle and give him a red hot go. Lisle is at the very least a smarter player.

I think some players are hamstrung by the fear of making mistakes so they become too defensive and reactionary.

I do remember an old time footy coach I had years ago who told us:

You will never be dropped from my team for making mistakes, even if they cost us the game. You will get dropped for lack of effort, lack of discipline or lack of courage. But don't worry about the mistakes, they happen.

He was true to his word when by far the most skillful player got dropped for being lazy. And he kept a player who made a terrible mistake but always gave 100%. It made such a difference to the psychology of the team. We lost as many as we won but no one ever had an easy win against us.

I think some of the Lions players need to have the fear of making mistakes removed but the fear of weak effort, courage and discipline in its place. Whatever else, be hard to beat.

Ace was shocking in the first half, absolutely shocking. Dined out late when the game opened up and the opposition tired. Was an entertaining final quarter but I doubt many people left the ressies thinking he had demanded senior selection.

In other news, AFL.com.au reporting that Mitch Clark has been ruled out this weekend. Soft. Must be scared that he'll run into his ex-wife.

Dunno, subjectivity is a beautiful thing. Tassie4Ever didn't think Banfield deserved to be in the bests, I did. Just opinion at the end of the day.

One dedicated ressies watcher I know is constantly baffled by who is named in the reserves bests though. She believes it to be quite agenda driven. Either way, there is, more often than not a disconnect with players named in the reserves "bests" and the following team selection. So I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

We know what they want to see from Ace, consistent four quarter efforts. If you can find someone who thinks he gave that on the weekend, more power to you.
