Ok I'll refrain from playing the man on this one... *bites tongue*

When has Slattery done a good job on either of those three? He gets MAULED overhead by Didak and Medhurst, he can't go with Davis and Didak when they push into the middle. It isn't just a matter of "He's our small defender, he'll be able to match up on any small forward". I would prefer to see someone who is decent overhead (T.Slattery) get a go at these blokes, rahter then leave it to H.Slattery.

(For the record, not a H.Slattery basher by nature, first time in a long time I've called for his omission)

Okay - Humor me.
T Slattery on who ?
What about the other two smallish forwards ? Who gets them ?

FYI H Slattery has been pretty good this year. Kept S Johnson to 2 goals Rd 1, Ballantyne to 2 Rd 2 (was moved elsewhere), Betts to 2 rd 3 and did a great job there and 2 to Le Cras last week with the other goals being kicked on Dempsey and Hooker.

Small, lock down defenders don't grow on trees.

welsh won't get dropped - its his 150th milestone match and its anzac day. they'll play him and he'll tag dane swan.

Outs: H.Slattery, Lonergan, Williams, Colyer
Ins: Myers, Stanton, Monfries, Davey

Team:

B: Dyson, Pears, Fletcher
HB: Dempsey, Hooker, Lovett-Murray
C: Stanton, Watson, Winderlich
HF: Reimers, Gumbleton, Monfries
F: Ryder, Hurley, Davey
Foll: Hille, Welsh, Myers
Int: Houli, Melksham, Zaharakis, Hocking
Emerg: Colyer, M.Williams, Prismall

McVeigh needs another match under his belt IMO - the anzac match is played at high intensity and we'll need guys playing who are match fit to last 4 qtrs. McVeigh currently isn't.

If Monfries doesn't come up does Williams get a reprieve? I hope not...i'd give the little fella in Colyer another go.

If Stanton doesn't come up then roll the dice with Prismall. He may not have earnt the game on form in VFL but we desperately need to win.

Given Reimers came back on following his ankle injury i'd be confident he'll get up in 9 days of recovery.

REIMERS VERY LUCKY?? ARE YOU FOR REAL???

are you sure you are an essendon fan? cause going by your comment that reimers is very lucky ,you must not take the time to watch the games

We need to play to our strengths. If we are going to beat Collingwood then we are going to run them off their feet. We need to have a few experienced bodies around the contest but otherwise rely on our run and carry. Colyer stays in over Melksham because he is quicker.

In: Stanton, Monfries, McVeigh, Davey
Out: Melksham, Houli, Lonergan, Williams

H.Slattery Pears Fletcher
Dempsey Hooker Lovett-Murray
Winderlich Watson Dyson
Monfries Gumbleton Zaharakis

probably change williams for slattery.
don't think we can afford to play welsh, hocking, watson and slattery all in the one side at the g.

Paul Medhurst -> Tyson Slattery
Leon Davis - Ricky Dyson
Alan Didak -> Henry Slattery

Sounds good Daytipper.. ??

Slattery is a good overhead player, seems to be very good below his knees also. Did a good job on Simon Wiggins (Northern Roosters) in round 1, so has some experience against bigger bodied men too. Seems like a good choice, although do not think he will start on the ground if he is selected. perhaps Fletcher will start on him (Medhurst).

Ricky Dyson needs to make Leon accountable, running off him whilst also being accountable himself, he seems to have learnt this and making himself quite at home off Half Back there.

Henry Slattery will go to Didak IMO, otherwise, who would you go to Didak?

The player who is going to cause the most concern at the moment is Thomas, career best form, averaging 20 touches a game. Able to float forward and kick a goal, good below his knees, able to take a grab. Who gets Thomas?

I like the look of Welsh V Swan, looks a tantalising prospect.

Out: Lonergan Colyer Houli
In: Stanton Davey Monfries

I really don't see why Williams should be dropped going into a match where we are gonna get 90k or whatever and his reputation as a big game player.

Id like to see:

IN: McVeigh, Stanton, Monfries
OUT: Colyer, Lonergan, Dempsey

H.Slat Pears McVeigh
Fletch Hooker NLM
Houli Milky Stanton
Reimers Ryder Winders
Zahar Hurley Monfires

Hille Watson Welsh

INT: Dyson Hocking M.Williams Gumby

Emerg: Dempsey Colyer Lonergan

As our forward line is disfuntional at the moment Id really like Ryder to start @ CHF and Hurley FF, Gumby & Williams not having the impact they need to at this point in time and really need to have an impact off the bench or back to the twos - particularly Gumby.
Dropping Dempsey a big call but IMO he needs a bit of a wake up - such a talented player & like many others needs to do more.
Im going this week and looking forward to the game and still think we are in with a chance despite Collingwoods great form & our poor form & ladder positions these games always seem to be a close battle.
Go Dons!

Swan destroyed Welsh last time.

Try Hocking who has better endurance.

Melksham uses the ball far more effectively than Colyer, leg seed is one thing smart ball use is another we are really lacking in the latter atm, Melksham in Colyer out for mine.

I meant to quote rainman06, not you rioli brownlow my apologies

No thanks.

History shows that we've struggled when the majority of our midfield is made up of older, one-paced players who generally struggle to hurt the opposition by foot.

We can no longer carry a midfield made up of Watson, Welsh, McVeigh, Prismall, Stanton, Hocking, Lonergan.

Would much rather see (for this week and in general) Watson, Slattery (tagger), Melksham, Houli/Winderlich, Stanton, Zaharakis/Remiers, Howlett.

:p I guess he was just ahead of us all.

Watson, Stanton, Prismall, McVeigh, Welsh, Lonergan all played. Hocking didn't.

Point taken, but there have been far too many games (particularly late last year) where having most (or all) of these players has cost us a win, in my opinion.

I see a lot of people seem to have Colyer out, Davey in (I realise they aren't exactly playing the same position).

Let's think about Colyers main weaknesses at the moment.
- His size (Though I can't recall him being pushed off the ball too often)
- Kicking skills seem a bit off.

Does this remind you of anyone? I realise he may not apply quite as much pressure as Davey at the moment (although averages an extra half a tackle), but at least he gets a decent amount of the ball.

I really like Davey as a player (Despite his recent form), however wouldn't be making this change just yet.

I agree about one paced. They certainly are when they are out of form.

I like you would like to see some youth through there.

Colyer & Melksham add a bit of foot speed. With Stanton Watson & Prismall(when he is up and running) with Slattery as a tagger and McViegh as a lock down defender, IMO is the way We should roll. Houli/Dempsey/NLM To come off the flanks and maybe rotate through. Welsh, Should have gone to Bendigo before Prismall IMO.

Monfries makes our forward like look a lot better, as he always presents. Just needs to keep his feet more.

So after that Drivel, Here are my ins and outs.....

Ins: Monfries, Stanton, Prismall, Mcveigh

Out: Welsh, Dempsey, Williams, Winders

Thought Winderlich showed a bit late in last week's game.

Williams is a big game player and love's the G.

Melsksham is a gun. He has hardness along with cleverness (his in the air kick in the first qrt last week was genius). He should be kep in the side.

Out: Colyer (love his enthusiam and effort but his kicking is a liability), Lonergan, Welsh (as a previous poster said - he is running out of tricks), Reimars (inj)

Last Chance - Dempsey, Hocking

In: Stanton, Myers, Mcveigh, Monfries (only if there is no dout on his fitness)
