Maybe Morris to the Hipwood role, Rayner to the Morris role, and since I am not sure what role Rayner was in on the weekend (not being snarky I really don't know what he did) not sure who to put in his spot.

Well he took 3 contested marks, led our tackles inside forward 50 and was a second string onballer

So I hit the record books because my recollection of our record in games in the game pre-bye wasn’t great; probably because players have mentally checked out in looking forward to their upcoming breaks. Sadly, the record books supported my theory.

Since 2011 when the bye came in our record is as follows:

3 wins and 12 losses (2011 to current) and in that period when playing as the away team pre bye, we are 0 wins and 9 losses (therefore 3 wins and 3 losses at home) so we have our work cut out to win our first away game pre-bye.

Under Fagan (2017 to current):

2 wins and 6 losses

Since 2021 (post Covid year):

1 win and 3 losses

These numbers do not include the bye before finals.

All of a sudden, if I wasn’t nervous already, I’m extremely nervous now as the records supported my inkling.
Just a slight correction the bolded should be 2 losses
I only had a look at the last 4 years.

Beating the Saints at home twice would be expected
We lost to the eventual premiers away in 2021
The Crows loss last year was not expected at that time.

I don't think the pre bye game will be a problem.
Being the Hawks bunnies since 2020 is a worry though.
I'd rather look at the sequence that has a better Lions result. Win, Loss, Win, Loss, ??

2023 Loss - away - Crows
2022 Win - home - Saints
2021 Loss - away - Demon
2020 Win - home - Saints

I counted the bye earlier this year too when we lost to Collingwood off a bye, which is where you get the extra loss.

Do we seriously expect an umpire to count everyone’s steps?
Personally I think it’s much easier to judge 15m.
And with some of the 10 and 12m marks that are paid a lot more people should be pinged for running too far,
It appears to be something that they have relaxed over the years.
Only to pull it out in a big game when it advantages a Big VIC Club
Make it 20m run without bounce and 20 kick and get the curators to cut 10x10 squares.

Was thinking similar a little earlier today.
With the way the game has sped up in recent years I don’t mind the idea of taking both out to 20.
Sometimes for a bounce you need that extra couple of steps to get around a player before bouncing like sharpy’s first bounce on the weekend.
Rankin’s was slightly different in that he was running in front of defenders.
