He's only kicked 2 goals in his last 4 games so would come in completely out of form

Shame HSmith has been injured but I'd go with Fort
Fair enough. Sucks not being full strength. Genuinely believe Gardiner was doing OK at his role and would be so handy there. Much better option then a barely mobile Fort.

I think the benefit we'd get from Fort second rucking would outweigh the benefits of bringing anyone else in as a forward and we can always sub him and bring on some more run

Leftfield option but could bring in Dev to play midfield and give Dunks more time forward

I'm worried it might hurt Danihers performance. He seems to relish 2nd ruck and gives him some 'ownership'.

Agreed. The mistake is they don't call it all the time. I'm a big advocate in actuallay applying the rules that have been laid down, rather than ignoring/downplaying some because their bosses want the game to flow. I still maintain more free kicks would open the game up more.
100% be easier more black and white.
If you are tackled the ball either disposed of legally or you dropped it.
This came out in the tackle crap is stupid, players now throw it one handed.

Also start paying holding the ball when they flop on it.
You see certain teams (Pies) do this every week. Take the ball on purpose trip fall to the ground while being tackled.
Then one of their team mates or more comes in to make sure the ball cannot get out.

Relish might be a bit of a stretch. It gets him involved for sure but he comes across in tele as 90% gambling on how to shark it or how to outwit the opposition ruck without competing for it.

This is where the hippy critics and fans alike get to evaluate their opinions.

I'm a fan - think he does a lot of underrated filling holes and running blocks. We will see.
I think his off the ball work has been ok (at least it appears that way on tv) but his form with the ball has been the poor bit that he hasnt been able to shake.

Problem this week is replacement options are:
  • a not in form like for like in Ryan
  • a second ruck in Fort he isnt a great forward and it affects the ruck forward balance of Daniher
  • change formation and go smaller in the forward line to bring in a mid or forward in Bailey or Dev
We really dont like changing our formation and it does really expose Morris and Rayner while Daniher is in the ruck. Not having a tall down the line for a mark is a problem for our game style.

Of the options I reckon it seems like Fort is the most likely option

Looking at Hawthorn's list, they don't have a particularly tall backline, so you could go either way.
Either bring in Fort and hope to expose that lack of height. Maybe between Fort and Big-O they can snag a few goals.
Or bring in the next ready midfielder (Bailey if he's fit), and then rotate them through. If we're need more height, could always try throwing a backman forward - maybe Froggy Lester, he's played all over the ground in his past.

Hipwood's definitely out. Whilst Ryan hasn't been setting the world on fire in the ressies, I think I'd prefer to see what he has to offer over Fort. Or play a smaller more mobile forward line, although that is risky when Joe goes into the ruck / should an injury occur.

Reville - Debut
Morris - Debut
Brain - Debut
Ryan - new player in Lions colors

I think last time we played them Sicily had a field day and they gave us the run around all day. We were just chasing tail and the score line should of been a lot worse.

To stop that happening again we need a much better output from the whole midfield group and try to squeeze up the ground quickly when we do move it forward.

Maybe Bailey in for Hipwood. Play Bailey exclusively as a small forward and Rayner to play CHF.

I'll accept that relish is a stretch. He seems to be better IMO with that responsibility.

This is what I was thinking…play Rayner, Morris and Joe as the three talls. Bailey, Lehman, Charlie as the smalls and Ah Chee as the bench swing man.
