The smart people have seen it for years (who started the original thread ;)) but now everyone is getting on board.

Offensively I don't think is where he hurts the team the most - I think it's defensively because he can't keep up with anyone so his team mates constantly have to cover for him which means other opposition players get free constantly.

So Priddis lacks defensive traits?

Yet he holds the record for AFL tackles with 70 less games played.

So exactly how does that work? You want him to lay more tackles in the packs than anyone in history.....and then start running players down and tackle more?

Tough task master........or just lack a clue!?

defensive game is more than grabbing someone a metre away from you in a pack, he offers absolutely nothing outside of a congested pack situation. Couldn't count how many times I've seen an opposition player cruise straight past priddis resuting in a goal. Simply put if Priddis didn't play against GC and Melbourne we win those games, and possibly GWS too.

And how many other players with the pace to make a tackle actually do go and make those tackles?

One thing Priddis does is apply defensive pressure at the coal face where he operates and that is inside packs. That's is his job, play in close and do the heavy lifting.

If you want to roast players for letting opposition runners run free with no pressure start roasting the likes of Masten, Gaff, Jetta and even Le cras. People who roast Priddis for lack of defensive effort on the outside seem to be letting off a lot of outside players with the pace Priddis lacks. Instead you expect Priddis to do everything? Really?:cool:

If his opponent is in a congested situation (e.g. a stoppage) he has a decent tackle and can force another stoppage

If he's by himself in space and a quick agile opponent is coming towards him/goes for the sidestep, he is fairly useless

Yeah well he either needs to start operating to the same level as previous years inside the coal face or he needs to start operating outside of the coalface too (He's not going to do either). He hasn't been doing the heavy lifting though, that's the problem. He had 33% more contested possessions last year, 50% more clearances, 13% more tackles etc.

Don't worry mate, I do roast those players, and as far as I'm concerned Lecras and Masten shouldn't be near the 22. It only becomes a major problem when there are numerous players who are like this, Gaff is the most talented of the lot of them and needs to work on his defensive pressure, but getting rid of Priddis, Masten and Lecras will mean the problem is far less apparent.

What we need is balanced and flexible players, and the only time you can make an exception to that is if they're elite at what they do. Priddis is no longer elite in contested situations, it's time to accept it and move on instead of clutching to some desperate hope that he will come good again. How is it not clear to you that the midfield works so much better without him?

These players have been / do get roasted for lack of defensive effort whether it's lack of tackles, failure to stick a tackle or failure to just apply pressure. I don't think anyone's doubting Priddis' defensive efforts in close but his lack of pace does hurt us defensively on the outside when he's basically only a witches hat. It'd be like sidestepping a block of concrete.

At least the others can stay with their man in transition . We get the ' priddis overlap effect '
where they have a spare ( priddis man ) every time they run and carry . Priddis has been a great servant but apart from his inside work he is next to useless .

The negative on here is from the Priddis whipping boys, every team has a whipping boy, ours just has a Brownlow.

He also operates on a wide open field called an oval where he gets burnt and cannot help out. Not only that he has fluffed so many i50's when he's been open under no pressure that have gone out of bounds creating a stoppage from what should have been a shot on goal or a complete turnover.

Not only do you have a one dimensional old school view of the game, you're not seeing these blatant skill errors. If you can't kick, you can't play.

Anyhow I pray to science he doesn't come in against port.

AFL footy is predominately contested football anyway so Priddis does hurt us getting burnt on the outside but as I said AFL is pretty tough contested footy so the MC probably see the advantage still of playing Priddis .
