Adelaide can see Thompson's flaws and have addressed the problem by using him as depth in the SANFL.

Unfortunately the nannas club refuses to see the same with Priddis.

In fact it's quite the contrary. He's just been signed up for a further season, and is playing ahead of a 20yo midfielder who dominates the WAFL yet isn't good enough to debut for a club widely known for it's weak midfield.

Out: Butler (inj), Wellingham(inj), Masten, Barrass
In Jk,Hurn, Hill,partington.

FB Shep Mackenzie Cole
HB Yeo McGovern Hurn
C Mitchell Redden Gaff
HF Jetta Petrie Darling
FF Hill Kennedy Cripps
R Vardy Shuey Sheed
I Duggan Partington Hutchings Karpany.

Agree here but would rather see Mackenzie out, Barrass will be able to do more for us this game and down the track. Don't get me wrong emac has improved the last couple of weeks but would rather get games and experience in young fella Barrass. Also like how Pridda not listed

Kennedy and Hurn are obvious ins, and as Masten sat forward all game against the dogs I feel a fit lecras or hill would offer a lot more. As bad as lecras was the last few weeks, perhaps the injury was affecting him more than expected. Especially given he actually looked decent in pre season and was very good against power in Adelaide when he kicked 4.

Cole stiff but he looked slightly injured during the dogs game and could used a rest. Given Port Adelaide have a tall forward line we could probably roll with the 3 tall backs this week.

This is what I mean.
We have GOV to play intercept defender, we don't need 2. We've seen first hand what happens when we do.
We don't need Barrass getting out bodied/positioned and leaking goals again.
We CAN'T afford to lose.
EMAC is in form as a 1v1 stopper.

You give kids more experience when a veteran is OUT OF FORM.
Barrass has played plenty of games this year already. He will get his opportunity again when he improves his 1 on 1 game in WAFL.

Truly hope MC takes this view.

Is he going to improve his 1v1 game in the WAFL or is he going to just dominate and mark everything that comes near him? I think Barrass just needs to learn to spoil a bit more often, which is a relatively small problem to have.

hmmm no don't agree with that, Emac needs to be dropped not the best intercept marker. Emac will always go for a punch rather than mark... We would be a more dangerous side with both Gov and Barrass taking big grabs in our backline. Game time in the WAFL is not what Barrass needs... he needs to be playing on the best forwards in the game, best way to learn.

Redden the most likely to make way for Priddis
Butler out injured with Hurn coming back in
Petrie as good as he's been makes way for JK

That might be it

Would love to see Masten make way for Partington but it's more likely that it'll be either Hill or Lecras that comes in. Will be annoyed if it's Karpany that is replaced

Lycett is pretty much ready and if he does return I think Barrass is the most likely to come out with Gov returning down back

Nelson if he's fit replaces either Wellingham (inj) or Cole (unlucky/sore)

Can't find room for Schofield and only one of Hill or Lecras comes in, arguably neither

Barrass has been awful one on one this season.

I'm backing him in, but won't be surprised if he did indeed get dropped.

Problem is, he'll dominate the WAFL, he is far too big for them there.

Sure, I for one would love if Barrass knew when to spoil and when to mark.
Question is are we in the position to risk losing the game for his learning experience at this stage of the year?

If EMac spoiling 100% of the time and not allowing opposition scoring cheap goals, I would say that is a win for us.
Having Gov back intercepting is enough. We don't need 2 guys purely trying to intercept.

Until we're certain to miss the 8, I'd rather we play a team with the highest chance of winning over a poorer performing kid purely for development.
We have plenty of kids in the team as it stands who are performing better than their counterparts.

Gee Petrie will be stiff to be dropped, if you are gonna go Over a body of work for a month clearly Darling should go not Petrie But I just can't see the MC going with Kennedy Petrie and McGovern up forward. Darling can thank his lucky stars that he is smaller and mobile then Petrie.

But when Emac spoils he brings ball to ground and puts pressure on our backline... We don't need 2 intercepting players but its a bonus for us that we do?! So you are saying only play Barrass if we don't make finals this year? lol Barrass is the better player for us and has more upside that Emac, he was one of the best intercept markers in the league last year, any noob can spoil a ball and bring to ground .. Most WC supporters would agree

Barrass is a great intercept ark but playing the deeper defender means he needs understand when to mark and when to spoil. It is not a matter of one or the other. I expect he is getting some intense coaching on that so interesting to see a change. As a defender, you first role is to stop your opponent getting the mark. If you can out-mark him, then fantastic. But to just go up and hope to mark each and every time will be the downfall of Barrass.

Agree that he will get little chance to hone this decision making in WAFL and we will need to be patient. Fine most weeks but not against Dixon, Ryder, Trengrove and Westhoff.

Against taller forward lines, surely it wouldnt be the worst to play gov, barrass and emac down back, as long as we have guys like wellignham/nelson and sheppard with speed out of the backline.

Having 3 talls back and kennedy, darling and the resting ruck (petrie/lycett) up forward could definitley work, especially given darling is quite mobile.

With Barrass could poor fitness be an issue? It's not easy to move a lump like him around and there's a solid chance he is out of breath in those contests.

This sums up my thoughts.

I think Barrass is tracking well. He beat his man 1 on 1 a few times on Saturday (including the mark that he then turned over for a goal) and will get there. The only thing I see being an issue in the short term is when Gov goes back and they start flying for the same mark again.

I think we can genuinely play 3 talls down back but we can't play 3 talls + hurn. It's similar in the we can't play 3 talls + lecras up front. Hurn whilst a small plays more like a tall and is slower, not overly agile etc. The question is would you rather play Emac + Barrass + Gov down back or 2 of the aforementioned + hurn?

For the same reason up front atm i'd prefer 2 talls + darling as opposed to kennedy + darling + lecras. In a lot of ways i think structure is just as important as personnel and we need to be playing a team structure with setups that stand up under finals pressure. At this stage now i'm not sure lecras can do that and i'm not sure hurn can either.

Have seen him play well in the WAFL but have not seen him dominate. There are plenty of good forwards in the WAFL which would seriously test Barrass.

I have a feeling Vardy will be given a rest this week to bring Lycett in and see how he goes.
Vardy, atm, is a walk up starter in the 22 so will be straight back in either way.
If so the the others will probably be JK, Hurn and Pridda for Buttler, Wellers and Masto.
Lecca to have a run at EP.
Would love to see Parto get a run but just can't see any more than 4 changes to a winning team and if fit and ready the 3 above will come straight in.
