Gut feeling is you are right. However is a good intercept mark, pretty good skills with reasonable skills.

Would like to have a look at him ahead of Durea early in the season as his form in the VFL warrants it

Desperately need to move past Doc. He is a great club man but father time waits for no one.

If we have any selection integrity Harmes cannot come straight back in, he was arguably the worst player on the ground bar McNeil last week (he was rated as the worst in the player ratings) and then got himself suspended.

Macrae's and Garcia's VFL performances over the last couple of weeks cannot be ignored, especially today...

Macrae
46 disposals at 80% efficiency
25 contested possessions
16 ground ball gets
16 clearances (7 centre clearances)
8 inside 50s
0 goals, 1 behind
5 score assists
199 ranking points

Garcia
41 disposals at 75% efficiency
9 contested possessions
7 ground ball gets
2 clearances
12 inside 50s
2 goals, 2 behinds
1 score assist
182 ranking points

The logical solution for me is...

IN
Duryea
Macrae

OUT
Coffield
Richards

Duryea to replace either Coffield/Richards and Williams to stay back with Macrae taking Poulters spot at half forward and rotate to the inside mid from there and then moving Poulter to the wing and Gallagher as the sub.

Alternatively as Gallagher, Poulter or Vandermeer all had quiet games one or more could be dropped and you could bring in both Macrae and Garcia, unlikely but still an option.
You got some of them stats were all waiting for, for todays game OG?

OUT: Richards, Coffield

IN: Duryea, Macrae

Duryea comes in ahead of Cleary because we need someone with a mature head and plenty of experience. And he's in our leadership group for a reason.
Macrae can't be denied on the back of his recent form. But it will depend on whether there's any truth to a reported spat between him and Bevo.

Macrae plays midfield. Gallagher could maybe roll back to HB but I'd prefer not. Poulter to sub (although I'd be OK if Garcia came in as sub instead).

The risk here is that we have two smaller bodies in defence replacing Coffield and Richards, so a lot will fall on Buku and Jones and we'd all hope they stay sound until the final siren. Williams is reasonable cover for Coffield. At a pinch Darcy or Naughton or English can spend time in the back half if things got dire.

Importantly we aren't sacrificing much run, apart from Richards but that can't be helped. Vandermeer, Gallagher, Baker, JJ, West, Sanders and Bramble all stay in the starting 22.

Wouldn't surprise or bother me if Harmes came in. I acknowledge Oliver G's argument but Harmes was one of many who put in a poor performance in Round 1 and he might have had more reason than most. Most of those underperformers bounced back well today and I can see that Harmes might be given that chance too.

Bev said post game Macrea is likely back in next week.

Out: coffield, Richards
In: Keath (JOD unlikely), Macrae

FB: Williams, Jones, Khamis
HB: Dale, Keath, JJ
C: Baker, Libba, Gallagher
HF: Sanders, Naughton, West
FF: Weightman, JUH, Darcy
R: English, Bont, Treloar
Int: VDM, Daniel, Macrae, Bramble
Sub: Poulter

Could see us bringing in Cleary instead of Keath though. Macrae to play high half forward mainly while taking Gallagher's inside mid minutes

Bevo said Macrae will be up for consideration. But also pointed out that none of Treloar, Bont, Libba, Sanders, Gallagher put a foot wrong, so it will be a balancing act to try and get the team balance right. And would be unfair to push any of them aside.

People need to cut it with the "this player should be out for a player who plays a totally unrelated position, leaving us with almost no one kind of thing, when two players do not even play the same position. Compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges.

Vandermeer is not keeping Macrae out for example, it is Clarke, Jones etc, not doing enough in the VFL to force Vanders out. If Vanders gets dropped, we need another small forward to replace his role, not another inside mid, it can't just be West and Weightman all game. Etc.

How do we squeeze Macrae in, with the starting trio of Bont, Libba, and Treloar playing well. And without interrupting Sanders and Gallaghers development? And no, Gallagher should F off into defence is not the answer either.

That being said, I reckon Macrae will be back in the squad for the next game. And as he should be. Seems fit, had a big VFL game. It will be interesting to see how Bevo "gets the balance right".

Two forced changes this week in defence. I reckon Williams will move back, he was solid today when he did go back. We will run with Bramble, JJ, Dale, Jones, Buku and Williams. But lack of a depth option might be risky. Baker deserves a starting gig after todays game

IN: Baker, and both Macrae and Harmes, with one of them as a sub.
OUT: Richards, Coffield

Hopefully JOD is able to play VFL next weekend. Need him back for the Cats game badly.

OUT Coffield, Richards, Vandermeer, Poulter
IN O’Donnell, Garcia, Macrae, Harmes

FB Bramble, Jones, Khamis
HB Dale, O’Donnell, Johannisen
C Gallagher, Bontempelli, Baker
HF West, Naughton, Daniel
FF Weightman, Darcy, Ugle-Hagan
FOL English, Liberatore, Treloar
INT Williams, Macrae, Sanders, Harmes
SUB Garcia

Cleary unlucky, but Williams going back allows to bring Macrae and Harmes back in without being too midfield heavy. Garcia sub as he has had a good few goes at VFL level. Hoping as sub he may be able to have a bit of a dip at some centre square work at the higher level, and stake a claim for a regular spot.

Poulter and Vandermeer a bit stiff to come out of a winning side despite some already forced changes, but I think there are simply just better players from the level below who deserve a crack.

VDM is going to get another week I bet. Richards & Coffield out. Probably also Poulter. Probably Keath and Macrae come in with Harmes. Macrae is going to be Sub.

I'd put Harmes on one wing & Baker on the other.

If it doesn't work move him inside & Gallagher can have a run on the wing.

Williams to go back to replace Ed.

Out: Richards, Coffield, Poulter
In: Macrae, Garcia, O'Donnell

With Richards out we are down an intercept marking player. O'Donnell comes in to free up Buku and also take pressure off Jones. I can't fathom bringing in Duryea.

Garcia in over Harmes at least for this week.

A little surprised to see the 'VDM out' comments given he does a mountain of unrewarded defensive running.
Also highlights how handy Bramble has been for a freebie. And Daniel should not be the sub, look at that distance.

I don’t think JOD will come straight in, needs at least one VFL game under him. That being said

OUT: Richards, Coffield, VDM, Gallagher (to sub)

IN: Duryea/Cleary, Baker, Macrae, Garcia

Garcia won’t crack our midfield rotation, needs to make VDM’s role his own. That’s how he makes it at AFL level if he is going to IMO. Wouldn’t hate a Clarke debut either. Won’t be surprised if VDM just plays again tbh but I do think we need an alternative option here

Rest is pretty obvious. Keath could come in over Duryea/Cleary but WC aren’t super tall, probably prefer to stay mobile

Maybe we bring Keath in to start getting the backline used to 2 talls for forward lines we'll face that will need this setup.

If Keath played well in the VFL wouldn't mind him in v the Eagles & then JOD can ultimately press for that spot.

VDM shouldn’t be first on the chopping block. Poulter offered nothing. Macrae could offer more in that position if required though Baker obviously comes right in. Poulter might get saved by Williams moving into Ed’s spot, but to be honest I don’t think there’s much worth persisting with there.

Would like to see Jones-JoD-Buku in the backline. Buku has fought well as a 2nd tall for his height but would like to see him freed up to play more to his strengths.

Interesting to see what we do given both injuries are in the backline. Williams covers Ed, Baker goes to the wing. Coffield - To replace with a tall (JoD) or a small/medium (Duryea/Cleary)? As above personally I’d like to see JoD but the eagles forward line may not demand it. Don’t want to take the piss with the eagles given what happened last year.

Tough week for changes Im not sure what we’ll do, we have to fit Macrae in and find a way to make it work. Harmes I think id bring back through the VFL but at the same time can’t really see us doing that so think he’ll be in.

VDM was better so if he wasn’t dropped week 1 he won’t be dropped on yesterday, if I had my way I would swap him for Clarke who was really impressive in the half I watched yesterday. Sooner he takes this spot the better.

Richards is a huge loss to our intercepting, but against WCE probably no need to do anything drastic to defence. Gives JOD a week in the VFL to get right where we desperately need him the following week. Maybe Williams just stays back this week?

I thought Poulter was pretty poor, just doesn’t offer much does he? Not skilled enough to play outside not hard enough to play inside, just sort of floats around being near the play - admittedly a winger is hard to judge on TV though.

I liked Gags game for the most part but he’s still a touch behind the pace of AFL, can see why we want him inside but for now I think he can bring more on the outside and we have better midfield rotations.

Out: Richards, Poulter
In: Macrae, Harmes (sub)

Baker and Gags to the wings, Williams to backline, Macrae to Gags role

Edit: Forgot about Coffield! Geez tough one there I really don’t want to go back to Doc he’s cooked and he looked cooked in the VFL too yesterday, just goes to ground so often - but it will probably be him. Personally I’d take a chance at Cleary.

Why do we need Harmes back as he didn't do well in R1? Midfield?

Sunday game as well which means Bevo will name everyone on the bench (Caleb, Macrae, Harmes etc...) which is a bit annoying for the supporters.

VDM is such a frustrating player. He’s so similar to Mitch Hannan in that he has some really desirable traits but just doesn’t have ‘it’.

He’s fumbly, makes really poor decisions by hand and foot and just consistently seems to lose his feet at really inopportune times.

I get he’s quick and hard at the ball and does all this unrewarded running on the fat side. But if you can’t back that up with decent disposal, winning actual contests and disposing of it to OUR team then you shouldn’t be a regular in this squad. I agree with others, bring Charlie Clarke in for his debut. Different type of player to make the most of our talls.

Think Vandermeer might be in trouble for a late, high hit that saw the Suns players target him for the rest of the game (it was immediately before the scuffle, which was because of it, that saw Darcy get the 50 for the goal)
