I don't get it either.
Busslinger still has one huge deficiency in his game style that really, really goes against how we are currently playing (slingshot off half back and speed of ball movement). Anyone who's watched the kid knows he reads the play really well coming in, but once he has ball in hand he is as slow as molasses moving it on, he almost always stops, props, backs up, and takes his full 7 seconds to find his next kick, the times he does blaze away almost always result in turn over.

I have heard this from our coaches that it's the one thing he really needs to work on.

I really do hope Busslinger makes it but right now he has played half a pre-season game and nothing more, let him get some VFL form before we throw him to the wolfs at the MCG.

We do not need every defender to be able to slingshot sometimes you need defenders who can defend one on one and kill the ball.

We have the Dale types to play the slingshot roll

For me, it’s not Khamis Vs Buss. Khamis plays best as a third tall interceptor & Buss is being groomed as future FB. Both should be playing tonight, IMO.
Agree, though I am starting to question why we signed Buss for 2 more seasons when he is still not getting the opportunities even pre season and now with our injury list. If he still has all of these weaknesses as proposed in this thread highly doubt he is ever going to make it and would have brought in Gardner till Jones or JOD are back.

Spot on the comparisons with Collins fall flat when he was delisted after 2 years

Still have memories of 2021 when he completely shut Libba out of the game i'd love to see him do the same to Daicos however i just cant see Bevo deploying a hard tag on anyone
We tried Gags last year on Daicos. Not successfully though.

We often go for a defensive forward role too, which we simply have to do on Houston as he'll kill us if we let him get easy ball.

It's pissing down rain. Can we move on with the Busslinger obsession? He isn't required. Mihocek is also out.

Keen to see Libba, Harmes and Kennedy absolutely crack in in the wet too.

This is fine to say but when Buku and Baker are now in who also don't warrant it and have shown on multiple occasions they aren't up to it then questions should be asked,

Weddle was the pick now sure in hindsight but that doesn't have any context here when we are playing Buku in a position he is not built for and never will be

Rubbishing Buku doesn’t make Busslinger any better though, unfortunately. The question you could ask is whether you’re looking at Busslinger with rose coloured glasses because the blokes ahead of him have already had their limitations exposed and Busslinger just hasn’t yet.

Mihocek has been replaced with 6 foot 10 Cox Gards/Buss are needed for McStay

Kennedy is one who might be able to do the job on Houston

Correct it doesn't however rubbishing Buss doesn't make Buku a KPD

I don't care if its Buss or Gards I have said this multiple times I am simply pointing out we have enough data now on Buku playing out of his depth as a genuine KPD and being exposed what is the point of going back to it?

Is this the quickest side we have picked under Bevo? Definitely not the most skillful or best kicks but there is some serious speed in the team. Gallagher, Baker, VDM, Dolan, Jones etc so can only assume we are trying to run and gun it.
Definitely a pacey side. But not sure we had much choice, we are just about out of players!

That would be my guess.

Baker has actually been reasonably solid in the last couple of years. He's no world beater but more than capable of playing a role for games as depth.

Dolan probably lucky to keep his spot, so sub would be best for this week.

Baker should come in to the starting 22 as he can at least stick with someone like Bobby Hill for speed around the ground

Maybe I view the defensive contest differently but I’m not sitting here worried that the Pies talls are going to torch us. Cox, Membrey and McStay are not A graders. Even if they each kick a couple goals that doesn’t win the game for them. I don’t know why we need so many posts about talls. They won’t change the outcome.

Their real threats are the following smalls: Elliot, Hill, DeGoey McCreery, Daicos and Schulz. If they run riot we could get badly beaten.

Williams, Buku, English and Lobster will do a good enough job on their talls for us to win. Same as when we beat Carlton last year without really stopping Curnow or McKay.

The question is can Williams, Doc, Bramble, Dale, Freijah, Gags, Davidson and Baker lock down their smalls. Not sure, but I think they at least have the wheels to do it if we have a good night.

Houston setting them up off half back too. I wonder if Harmes or Kennedy could be given a role on him.

I think we are getting to the stage where we may never know what these limitations are because he just doesn't appear to be getting a game anytime soon (even though he has a token selection as an emergency today).
Watching Weitering play last night and over the years, he is not quick nor does he create scintillating runs off half back. He's very good because he positions himself well, marks the ball or spoils it in the air. Obviously, he's a lot stronger than Busslinger but they are not too dissimilar in type.
I'm in the camp that wishes to see what we have with him and I'm willing to give him a chance to see what he can offer. If that means a steep learning curve for him and some mistakes for a game or two then so be it. At least we'll know more.
