I think we are getting to the stage where we may never know what these limitations are because he just doesn't appear to be getting a game anytime soon (even though he has a token selection as an emergency today).
Watching Weitering play last night and over the years, he is not quick nor does he create scintillating runs off half back. He's very good because he positions himself well, marks the ball or spoils it in the air. Obviously, he's a lot stronger than Busslinger but they are not too dissimilar in type.
I'm in the camp that wishes to see what we have with him and I'm willing to give him a chance to see what he can offer. If that means a steep learning curve for him and some mistakes for a game or two then so be it. At least we'll know more.
This is spot on and the exact point,

We know Buku isn't an AFL KPD and never will be, He may be able to occasionally pinch hit for a quarter or 2 pending injuries but when he has to play full matches he is always exposed,

Like you said we just don't know with Buss so when the argument comes up it quickly becomes redundant because we know Gards and Buku aren't good so what harm does it do seeing where he is at when playing at the level.

If he is not good so be it he goes the way of Lewis Young and Kiren Collins before him

Dolan probably lucky to keep his spot, so sub would be best for this week.

Baker should come in to the starting 22 as he can at least stick with someone like Bobby Hill for speed around the ground
IIRC Baker played in defence at the intraclub and did pretty well. Not dissimilar to Bramble when he went back.

You're projecting your own lack of knowledge onto the coaches. Luckily there are many ways of assessing players' abilities other than just lumping them into an AFL game in front of 80 thousand people. Training sessions, reserve games, video analysis etc. Just because you don't know if Buss is competent doesn't mean the coaches don't.

So the only answer to your questions is: the coaches think buku is better placed right now to take on the role, and they have far more information than us.

You blamed Buku for costing us a game, next minute ‘what harm could playing Busslinger do’. If he has a stinker you’ll be off him before the half time oranges come out.

Forget where he was drafted and just accept that for a number of reasons he’s going to be a slow burn at best rather than making any material difference to our fortunes any time soon, if ever.

So we know Buku isn’t competent and that is any better?

For the role tonight Gards would be the best option then

Nothing to do with where he was drafted have watched both at vfl level one is clearly better then the other

Garcia now listed as injured (knee TBC), anyone know any more?
Injured in the last two minutes of the VFL practice game last week. Sent in for "minor" surgery.

Are those of you who spent the last 24 hours saying Buku is not up to it going to jump in here with a mea culpa?

So proud of the young bloke. He has his flaws but if he represents our KPD depth our list is in fine shape.
I still think he’s a third tall. I think that’s all the detractors were saying. I haven’t seen anything tonight that’s changed my view.

Yep, had him as an in as a 3rd tall replacing Cleary early in the week. He is limited but solid depth

Other than we need to hit up kicks to targets rather than kick down the line all the time... Collingwood outmarked us 77 to 69, but 15 of our 69 marks were taken by Darcey and Lobb. On the flip Daicos and Schultz took 13 between them. Our best smalls terms of marks was gags with 5 at position 12 and then Vander at position 16 with 4.

Im not sure what position Gags was playing, but it suited him better - was he a defender? he has duryeas replacement written all over him IMO.

Collingwood simply worked harder than us and we were content to kick long to contests way too often. yes, getting the ball into the forward half quickly is our 1 wood, but we overplayed it. Too predictable to set up against. If Darcey or Naughton is drawing a crowd on centre wing then there must be space elsewhere for our smalls to expoit. We have to switch it up more often than we did.

Some of our seniors were terrible:

Duryea - 4 turnovers from 11 possessions. Backmen have to be reliable because their turnovers = costly, and if Duryea isnt reliable he isnt anything.

Bramble: 8 possessions from someone who is there to be a running, attacking player.

McNeil - yeah, hes a senior, hes 23yo, played 50+ games and physically peak condition. 6 disposals and 4 PA and 0 tackles from a pressure forward?

English: hmmmmmm
