Of course if you're at a stoppage and end up with the pill, you generally don't have much of an opportunity to tackle. He had a lot of it, would certainly be interested as to whether he missed many tackles. That could be what's keeping him out, but you would need to be looking at more than just stats.
Tough call this week.
For me Lyons in for Crouch, Wright as the sub.
I don't have an issue with Crouch, but he could work on his disposal. He's a ball magnet, don't get me wrong but I think we have to reward Lyons who's clearly in form. Unless he's said he's going home at the end of the year in which case make him the drinks boy.
Freud-edTend to agree. Crouch has shown he's hot
This bears repeating…we've been too soft for too long, especially for favourite clubmen who are just plodders but somehow keep getting picked time and again. And please, people, forget this 'doesn't deserved to be dropped,' or 'we had a good one, so reward the team and go unchanged,' - that's the mentality of an also ran.
How many premiership teams have dropped players on the verge of prelims and grand finals in recent years?
It's rarely because the player deserves to be dropped - it's because the successful teams are ruthless about playing their best side. If we had someone outside of the side who will improve us as a team, then bring him in - regardless of whether someone deserved to be dropped or not.

All well and good if you have someone that clearly improves the team. Is Lyons clearly an improvement over Wright at AFL standard? And please, people, forget this 'doesn't deserved to be dropped,' or 'we had a good one, so reward the team and go unchanged,' - that's the mentality of an also ran.

Unlike the Cameron for Petrenko decision which was a no-brainer, sometimes things aren't so clear but still worth pursuing. All well and good if you have someone that clearly improves the team. Is Lyons clearly an improvement over Wright at AFL standard?
I like Wright and think he's had a decent year, but you can't really answer that question without giving Lyons a decent run.All well and good if you have someone that clearly improves the team. Is Lyons clearly an improvement over Wright at AFL standard?
Lyons has been tearing it up in the SANFL but it's hard to pick someone to get the axe for him to come in. It'd be really harsh to axe Crouch when he played well in very limited game time.
While I'd love to squeeze Lyons in to the side I just don't think it's worth it unless we're playing him as a pure midfielder. I see him as the natural successor to Scott Thompson and I'm hoping we start managing Thommo's games as the season gets on and give Lyons a crack.
Thompson has no plans to start having his game time managed and has set himself for this and next season and I'm pretty sure Lyon won't be prepared to sit around in the sanfl until 2016 for an opportunity

True but that's not to say he won't slow down toward the end of the yearManaging Thommo's games?
He is back baby! He's fit and firing. He may not be the quickest, but he has the knack to find the pill (much like Lyons) but better
I really hope Lyons reads this thread to see what sort of support he's getting from our level!
True but that's not to say he won't slow down toward the end of the year
We saw the results of thommo making his own call throughout 2013 where he was ordinary. If you're serious about challenging and getting past the first week of finals, then you need your best 22 fit and firing when it matters. If that results in thommo being rested for a few games, then that is what should happen.
To me it's not a bullshit excuse
Glenn made some valid points, over the past two seasons we have been knee of the worse tackling sides in the comp which has translated into losses however with the introduction of players like Betts, M Crouch and now Charlie Cameron we have players which a natural instinctive tacklers and this then becomes infectious and ripples through the side....
With this in mind I'm with Glenn I want to preserve what we produced last night however I also believe that Lyon deserves his chance
So, it's just a massive coincidence that this week, his intensity and tackling become an issue?
Why wasn't that a problem last week? Dint recall anyone saying this was an issue before now?
So you drop Wright?I like Wright and think he's had a decent year, but you can't really answer that question without giving Lyons a decent run.
