Naughton immediately back in. Bev concerned that other players may get covid this week (Zaine Cordy another who is in isolation). Also no VFL this weekend.

Ins
Naughton

Outs
Bruce.

Juice needs another gallop in the 2s and 2 rucks against Melbourne is required. Bruce can be brought back for the Geelong game. Hunter may find it challenging to get back in.

Williams and maybe McNeil under pressure for the likes of Hunter, Scott, Mclean.

In: Naughton, Hunter, Zaine Cordy/Schache to play defense, Vandermeer/McLean to play forward
Out: Sweet, Weightman, Williams, Alex Keath

In: Naughton
Out: Sweet

Bruce will be better for the run, Hunter/Schache weren't in good enough form to justify bringing them straight back in. Potentially look at McLean in if he is ready to go and ticked all boxes

What I think we’ll do:

In: Naughton, Hunter
Out: Sweet, McNeil

Would rather keep McNeil in but he may be the unlucky one for the more experienced Hunter.

Will be interesting to see the changes and the way we structure up vs Melbourne

Got a feeling we are going to hunt them this time and give ourselves a real chance.

Melbourne also playing this week at TIO stadium so hopefully it drains them a little

Got to get selections spot on and structure to give ourselves a shot. If we are weak in my position Melbourne will exploit it.

We will know more about our coach and team to see if we can finally beat someone of note in season 22.

IN not McComb or Scott

Really hope they play Sweet again next week. I think this is the one to go in tall. English is not 100% and a makeshift second ruck playing against Jackson would be a disaster.

Would give Bruce the defensive assignment on May to help free up Naughton and Jamarra.

McLean in for McNeil is an upgrade. Hunter, Schache, Scott and McComb can wait in the 2's, with one being the sub.

Hannan was ok at times but lacks the physicality to play back and with Garcia, West, Weightman and JJ playing forward with Bruce, Naughts and JUH probably not a spot for him.

In: Naughton and McLean
Out: McNeil and Hannan

Naughton will be straight back in for Hannan

Hunter for McNeil - McNeil brings something so unlucky but Hunter is too good to leave out.

McLean for Sweet - I like when Sweet was in and allowed English to get more rest time so that he played at higher intensity with more energy. But given his lack of impact outside of those taps - I would be OK with Bruce playing a couple of 5 minute periods and bringing in McLean - he is very good and has played a couple games. Alternative is Schache - who offers less in the ruck but much more around the ground including a genuine rotation with the other taller KPF.

Left field is to debut Darcy - high risk in playing against the best team but great learning experience and Jackson isn’t a bruiser. I don’t think this will happen but will happen eventually. Much better rotation as a forward than Sweet but just learning as a ruck - would be a surprise to Melbourne.

Not sure whether VDM and Daniel will be fit.

Really didn’t have a choice to play Bruce - JUH on his own would have been smashed. No Naughton No Schache so needed some big boy support. JUH kicked three and was just a bit off marking two more he should have. Could say Tactic worked.

Ins Naugton, Hunter
Outs Bruce and McNeill but knowing Bevo it will be Sweet not Bruce

Bailey owes us and he needs to play wing and get the better of one of their keys Langdon.

The unknown is covid for both teams.

We have a couple of things in our favour Dees off an 6 break playing in Alice Springs, we have a 8 days break, Naughton rested his knee this week, Oliver if he plays will still be hampered by a broken thumb and it is at Marvel. Having said that we are going to need a lot better forward entries last night we just had so many because our midfield dominated that saints could not defend them all.

Bruce looked way off last night. They must figure if we make it to finals we’ll need Bruce to do any damage so they’re getting games into him.

He has two players manning him most of the time, he didn't get many kicks but took them out of the play

...

Not sure whether VDM and Daniel will be fit.
VDM would be well back in the queue. And that's only on form, not injury susceptibility. I don't have him in our best 25.

I'd be giving him a series of games in the VFL (like until 2023) to see if he can avoid getting mid-game soft tissue injuries ... while still extending himself.

Over his recent games he has been too much of a liability to the side due to hamstring strains.

In: Naughton, Hunter
Out: Sweet, McNeil

And Daniel in for Hannan if fit.

No need for Sweet this week against Jackson. Like the Grand Final last year, Jackson doesn't do his damage in the ruck contests (2nd worst in the league for both hitout win % and hitout to advantage %), he does it at ground level with his mobility and contested work. Chuck Bruce in there, let him throw his weight around.

McNeil unlucky, but we need Hunter's ability to run all day against Melbourne's wingers - hopefully COVID hasn't had too much of an effect on him.

You are on the money, English is in fine form and alone will handle the 6 rucks he is up against in the next three games.

English in fine form?

Was a week ago Lathams and Reid beat him in the ruck.
