Man you over exaggerate. Check out the below midfield against Port Adelaide last year. No Libba, no Bont and no Picken, no Clay, no Dunks, no Daniel

I will take Bont, Picken and Dahl over Macrae, Wallis and Dahl any day. You add Clay, Dunks and Daniel in their and your argument falls to crap.

Haha you have gone back and found one game that we have a fairly similar midfield and it's a game against a crap team that we lost

The only real difference is Bont over Wallis

Hahahaha wow

Only a little.
17 of his 21 votes came in just two games where he was outstanding (R5, 10 votes and R17, 7 votes). That tends to support my view that he plays the occasional very good game but doesn't seem able to do it week after week, which I find frustrating. Is it just injury or is it something mental?

Wasn't he best one 3 weeks ago?

Yep, that was Rd 17 where he got 7 AFLCA votes.

I do like Stevens and don't subscribe to the idea we should offload him at the end of the year. I think he has something to offer.
Certainly wasn't expecting MC would drop him this week.

Being voted best on in a team with players like Stringer, Bontempelli, Libba, Hunter, Macrae and Dahlhaus isn't an occasional good game, it's an occasional fantastic game. He was consistently good in the first six rounds, particularly defensively. Then he got injured, I'm not sure he would've continued along that trajectory but it interesting that his poor form coincided with a notoriously tough injury to get over.

He won't stay after being dropped now I would think

He wild be looking at who is playing Saturday nite and thinking are these blokes seriously playing before me?

IMO he is gone now and that pisses me off eclectically if we keep one of the blows that have done nothing for our club other that clog the list and get games on injuries

I've lost a little faith in MC lately.

Not sure what's going on and I think they are making some grave errors.

Not playing Mino and Stevo this week is baffling against a bigger team on a flat dry deck at Etihad.

They will smash us inside and then just kick to contests like they did last time.

Faith in MC tends to take a steep dive on this board every Thursday night. Most weeks it recovers by Sunday night.
They're not perfect but we've won two thirds of our matches with a terrible injury list so they aren't doing too badly.

Would love to be a fly on the wall at some of the MC discussions though. Especially in recent weeks.
"Are you sure he's got that pic of you with the hamster?"
"Shut up mate, I told you never to mention that here!"

I heard it was a goat myself but you know Chinese whispers

True I can't see Stevens being dropped this week for any other reason except being still injured or gone at seasons end, lets hope its the first

I know our midfield isn't just Bonti/Libba/Macrae/Wallis/Dahl, but ideally that's the main crew. Dahl and Bonti are really, really good, of course. But geez as much as I like to think we can win if we bring the same attitude that was brought to Geelong...Bonti and Dahl are going to need a lot of help. The kind of help that, say, players of Libba/Macrae caliber provide. Even with Morris and Boyd back, it's easy to see this being the game that we just have too many injuries for. That against a top 8 side we may have reached a tipping point. I know Hrovat's been in good VFL form, but we won't know how that'll translate in his first afl game of the year. Webb hasn't exactly always been used to his strengths in the afl side, but again who knows how he'll go with a presumably more featured role. If North just focus on putting work into Bonti...Our already problematic delivery becomes even worse. Couple that with the fact that we only have one guy- Roughie- who can give opposing bigs a run for their money in around the ground marking...As has been said, it's suddenly not so hard for north to win it out of the middle, and then just kick it to their bigs. Easy. It's essentially what they did last time, and even though the end margin wasn't that big we were never truly in the match.

But, that's a rather defeatist attitude, I know. Part of me has hope. Again, if they bring the same attitude we saw last week, they'll always be in with a chance. Might need more than that though-We need role players to step up (Jong, Hrovat, Webb) and Bev needs to compensate in the middle by making some adjustments. I'm a fan of keeping Stringer up forward as much as possible, but it might just be that we need him to spend 60+% of the time in the middle. Maybe just throw Jong up forward more to get that presence there to help Boyd/Dickson. So throw Stringer with Bonti/Dahl, put M.Boyd back in the middle...That doesn't look so bad now. It subtracts from our defence and attack, but it yields a midfield that can probably compensate for Libba/Macrae losses as best it can. There's no perfect solution when working around this many injuries. But it'll be interesting to see what Bev does.

Norf arnt tall? And we bring in two small blokes?

This isn't the weakest midfield we have had in years?

But hey let's pretend it isn't so we can all talk cr@p and ignore reality

I agree with you sometimes but I've seen you constantly get upset bout the changes and yet we pull off wins.

Obviously weakest midfield. Libba Wallis Macrae all out.

We are still playing Roberts and Hamling (I know they ain't great) with addition of Moz as the talls plus North don't have Waite this week.

It's not all as bad as you make it out to be

Morris coming in for Adcock basically helps our height even if Boyd is the forward/ruck again

Seems like Cordy or Hamling will be used forward again, good to see, we need decoys down there who will help spread the opposition defence so they won't set up and intercept everything thwarting our scoring opportunities, bit annoying Boyd will ruck more than he should but it's clear Mino ran over Bevs cat a while back

Time for Stringer to step up and do something. Norf ain't a happy hunting ground for him, he will have more support up forward than last time around, time for him to shit all over Norfs grandpas and win us the game off his own boot

Regarding Stevens being dropped.
It appears that in order to bring in replacements for Libba and Macrae, the MC has tried to bring in players who have recently shown that they can actually play on ball roles if required, namely Hrovat and Webb.

Once it was also decided that Boyd and Morris were coming back, then two players had to make way for them. Obviously concerns about height were not sufficient to outweigh whatever grudge/stubborn reasoning is presently keeping Minson out of the side, but were sufficient to keep Hamling and Cordy in.

This would mean the players battling for the last couple of spots in the team would have probably included Stevens, Jong, Smith, Dunkley and Adcock. I think the ability of Jong to rotate through the middle and forward line probably got him through and Dunkley's ability to pop up and take marks inside 50 may have saved him. That leaves just a single place for one of Smith, Stevens, and Adcock, with Smith obviously getting the nod.

well reasoned thoughts. We have no idea of knowing what is actually going through the heads of MC, but i would be satisfied with this explanation.

I can't comment on team selection as I missed the match on the weekend.

Hopefully the upside of the injury curse is that we fast track the development of Webb, Dunkley, Cordy, Smith etc. That has got to be the positive we take out of this.

I believe they will show as much heart as last week and put in a competitive performance, and maybe even get up in a close one. Go dogs.

Not sure why Minson is still on the outer. Roughy does his best work as a second ruck and can actually use his athleticism for the centre bounces. It's too big of a task for him to do alone.

A little surprised Stevens was omitted but his past fortnight has been terrible. He'll dominate the seconds and I'm expecting him to be straight back in next week.

Hamling struggled last week and I wasn't expecting him to get another gig, but good luck to him. From the sounds of things, his VFL form seemed pretty good so maybe he deserves a little run at it.

Happy to see Hrovat and Webb in, excited to see what they can bring. Webb should actually get some midfield minutes with the last couple of injuries. Thought we'd bring McLean in too, hopefully we'll see him soon.
I saw McLean last week, he needed the run. I wouldn't have brought him back this week. Reckon he will push very hard for next week.

I didn't expect Koby to be dropped, but his form has been pretty average. I don't think it's a bad thing for guys to drop back a level to get some form, and you have to reward form at the lower level. Webb is constantly getting 30 plus possession at Footscray, just needs to translate that into the next level. Probably needs solid midfield time, which given the outs he should get.

We are gonna need Clay and Stringer to play a lot of midfield minutes. But then I wonder where our goals will come from.
