I'm not sure they will pull the trigger on Adams this week. If they do I think it may be in the VFL.
If I'm wrong I have no idea who goes out. Varcoe or Aish the most likely I guess, but both would be considered stiff to be dropped.

Buckley just confirmed he’s in if he gets through training tomorrow.

I would give him a week in the twos to find touch personally. Shades of round 1 when underdone players hurt us. It's good to have a near full strength team though.

Worth considering that he was in full training all through the preseason and has only missed 2 JLT games and 2 actual games.

Yes, he'll be underdone somewhat, but you can play one slightly underdone player. I suspect in Round 1 we saw multiple players go in underdone which is a recipe for disaster.

If Adams had missed half of the season I'd want him to play in the twos.

We were also missing that grunt that we desperately needed, like bucks said on SEN, He is a leader and one of our best. If fit he should and will play.

Will be an extremely difficult call finding someone to drop for Adam's.

It's about touch not fitness. The finger has restricted his skills work. I would let him get touch at a lower level before returning to the AFL. I'm not too fussed if it doesn't happen that way it's just a comment on how I'd play it.

Yeah we definitely missed that grunt with Geelong. No Adams, Sier or Greenwood hurt our midfield balance. I'm stoked Adams is returning but I do think we're in a position where don't have to force it. I reckon the omission is pretty straight forward and Greenwood is likely to come out.

Well Cox stays in.

Adams joins him now, very likely.

Sorry but someone drops out and I’ll suggest Varcoe will be the guy.

Emergencies: Varcoe, Goldsack, Crocker, Appelby

I'm not so sure it's that straight forward. Greenwood, Aish, Varcoe and JT all under the pump.

Shouldn't be this week, but I think Stephenson is going to end up being pushed out. Was given a lot of luxuries last year with the amount of space our coaches and opposition coaches gave him, isn't getting that this year with Elliott being back in and de goey being twice the player he was this time last year.

I just don't see a role for him once hoskin is ready to go.

Cant believe people wanting to drop Greenwood he just did an amazing job on martin and I'd love to see him go to shuey or yeo early, feel like Aish is the one to make way to be honest. Would be varcs last chance or he would be getting a spell in seconds surely, I only say Aish before him purely based on the fact hes got more runs on the board.

IN Adams
OUT Varcoe (or Aish)

Adams brings the same attributes as Varcoe but will gather three times as many disposals.

Personally I'd rather not have all four of our "grunt" mids - Varcoe, Mayne, Greenwood and Adams - in the same side together. Varcoe has the fewest 2019 runs on the board, so for mine he is the OUT. Aish seems next most likely to make way for Adams. Hard to imagine anyone else getting the axe.

I think we need to wake up to the fact that Mihocek on McGovern is not a good match-up but Mayne kept him accountable in the QF last year.

I say we put Mayne on McGovern, put Mihocek where either Stephenson or Thomas were and put Stephenson or Thomas where Mayne was originally.

That's not taking into account Adams potentially coming in, of course.

Wow. There's a big difference between Stephenson under the pump and in competition for his spot and just "not seeing a role for him." Might as well just trade him if he's already useless after a year.

I think we need to acknowledge that conditions played a significant part of that and not get caught reading too much into it.

I’m 60/40 towards playing him. Adams, to me at least, isn’t a touch player unlike Howe, Crisp, Cox, Mayne, Stephenson, Phillips etc. who can all run hot and cold. The thing is I thought Beams was the same and we saw how he went in Rd 1 which is why there’s doubts.

The reason I’d go with him though is that I think the group struggled without him/ Greenwood/ Wills/ Sier whereas Adams will have the rest of the group in support and I think 80 mins at senior level will trump 100 mins at VFL level ahead of Rd 4.

I’ll back them in and my only query is around who the club chooses him to replace. Again I think it’s obvious that it’s Greenwood, but the club could just as easily go with Aish and focus on talls down back because WC will likely have Darling, Kennedy, Vardy and Allen up front then put Greenwood down back if required. They could also release Varcoe behind the ball to get involved a bit more. Adjusting established roles isn’t preferable though.

Edit: to address the commentary around Stephenson, just stop. He won’t be dropped at any stage. Especially not for WHE who we’ll be lucky to get anything out of in 2019 because he struggles badly on interrupted pre-seasons.

Positives for Collingwood (compared to GF)

In:Moore Roughead Elliott Beams
Fully fit: Treloar Pendlebury DeGoey
In form: Everybody but especially Cox and Mihocek
Out: Lycett

Negatives for Collingwood
In: Gaff
Out: Adams

I think it’s reasonable to say our team has improved whilst the Eagles is about the same
No Rioli or Cripps for eagles but they have Sheppard back too
