Channel Nine and upcoming Melbourne Storm blockbusters

i believe live/slightly delayed storm games broadcast in melbourne would rate very highly, but apparently ch9 disagrees, for some reason that they alone know. the storm have taken off like a rocket here, especially after the salary cap furore, and i think it should be a massive priority to see the away games, at least, down here.

Firstly, SBS shouldn't be showing RL. Secondly, do you really think either if them will go head to head with the AFL in Melbourne?

Yep, 9 are dudding sports fans in Melbourne.

The Rabbits are coming .... as the AFL clubs fall out of contention, its an opportunity, small but its there.

You would think that next year would be a big opportunity for both Rugby codes to make a big imprint in Melbourne. For League, that would furthering that already existing imprint. With AFL scores blowing out to figures that make it hard to even the diehards to watch the games and the talent of the AFL being stretched even further next year, quality rugby matches in both codes have a great opportunity to cash in imo.

agreed. with the storm being a red hot chance for the premiership this year, why not strike now?? if they win again, their following is going to jump again next year, which would, to me at least, equate to an excellent opportunity to market the game in any way possible in melbourne.

personally, i'd definitely switch over to ch9 on friday night if they were showing the storm game, rather than watch the blues/hawks game on ch7.

and geez, i would've given my right arm to be able to watch the mighty reds win this year's super xv on fta tv at home!!

69k for 50 first dates on the Go channel. Would I still have my 5 bucks? I reckon I would.

50k on the main channel 9. That's the thing 9 pay royalities to play these programs. They would of matched that with a 'free' product.

Without sounding like a nutter. Would 9 be afraid of not getting access to the AFL players for the footy show if they annoyed the AFL??

Same with Channel 7 up here for AFL. They have the rights they paid for, Show the games and save money on the royalities to the TV studios.

umm... both rugby codes ?

the rebels & the word quality do not belong in the same sentence
they are first rate the rebels

first rate plodders  ;)

Channel 9's facebook page has been swamped with complaints http://www.facebook.com/Channel9?sk=wall.

Last I heard the TV guide was listed to be advised for GEM Friday night, but on their facebook page channel 9 have announced an "encore screening of The Farmer Wants A Wife - Australia from 7pm on GEM, followed by UNDERBELLY RAZOR from 9.30pm."

for what it's worth, here is my communication with 9.

It is clear that Nine in Melbourne hold the game of rugby league in contempt. Regardless of what you think, Melbourne has arguably the best RL team in the world and Melbourne fans are being continually dudded by your network where Friday night games are concerned.

Why the game couldn't be televised either live or slightly delayed on GEM beggars belief. It is an away fixture and in the lead up to the finals, you have a potential blockbuster on your hands.

For your edification, this is a crucial away game between the teams ranked 1 and 2 on the ladder, is likely to be between this year's grand finalists plus the game has minor premiership implications.

I am not suggesting in any way that this goes head to head against AFL on GTV9, but if this game is delivered to the hordes of Storm fans via GEM, you can assuage the thousands of Melburnians who, frankly, have had enough of the Channel "Nein" shenanigans we unfortunately have to endure, each and every year.

anyone know if any pubs in melbourne will be showing the game?

I assume this game is live in both northern states? Parra Easts I think is the other game? (lol btw).

If it's live into Brisbane, the Limerick Arms in Sth Melbourne will have it.

*Edit actually, last Fridays game (souths cowboys) was at the imperial on Bourke St. Will double check for you.

haha

Scumly are not going to make the Grand Final. Unlike Melbourne/ AAMI, they can't play finals at Brookvale.

I'd write on their wall and complain as well, but it means I have to like them. That I cannot do.

Cheers thanks for that, just checked their website and it looks like it's on :thumbsu:

Like them, write on their wall and then unlike them straight after.

Probably a good link to bookmark: http://leagueofourown.net/page5.php

Also probably worth checking with both venues for the bigger Storm games, as tonight's game is only listed for the Limerick but as someone has mentioned, it should also be on at the Imperial.

Even with the new contract upcoming, don't hold your breathe that we'll ever get to see live NRL up against live AFL on a Friday night on any digital channel in Melbourne.
I agree that the next contract won't offer us much hope here in Melbourne.

The next round of TV negotiations must include a better deal for us down here. I don't care how they do it or whether the antisphoning laws needs to be changed. I admit though, I don't know much about the ins and outs of this so I am a bit ignorant when it comes to this subject.
I thought I knew what the new anti-siphoning list said, but I had to check, and I had previously thought they would achieve something, but they won't. In fact, the anti-siphoning scheme hurts sports and sports fans:

http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_91821

Under the current scheme:
- subscription television broadcasting licensees are prohibited from acquiring the right to televise an event on the anti-siphoning list
The anti-siphoning scheme does not:
- compel free-to-air broadcasters that acquire the rights to events on the list to broadcast the events live or in full :thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

I personally couldn't care how sport rates, I want to see it, and I should be able to see it, LIVE, IN FULL and IN HD. But I am not even able to pay for that privilege, in fact, current legislation hinders that even being a remote possibility.

Gosh I wish there was a pub out west that would show it.

Looks like the Limerick might have to do, going to the CBD doesn't appeal to me on a Friday night.

I just called the Victoria Hotel (aka Hart's Hotel) in Footscray and they confirmed that they ARE showing the Storm game LIVE tonight.

The Victoria Hotel - 43 Victoria Street, Footscray VIC 3011 - (03) 9687 7581 ‎

NB: The Victoria Hotel does not have their own website.
