absolutely, i think we all know he still has some juice in the tank as highlighted with his last final. he fits a need that we have deficiencies in, he brings great experience and leadership. can be a great mentor for even someone like Dusty, can be a marquee player for our new VFL side if in fact he isnt good enough

If Chapman wants he can stand left or right of Jack all season and make a decent living snagging goals from Jack's crumbs.
How easy would that be for Chappy?

We need to rethink a new plan and newer players that can crumb in the forward line.
Currently we are too proppy and too rigid.
Jack or Vickery or McGone drop the ball and it's run out of there.

That's only because our small forwards are ****ing appalling and barely VFL standard. One thing that rarely happens in our forward line is the oppo take a contested mark so there are plenty of crumbs yet rarely do we get a crumbing goal. Frustrating.

That's reason enough, and the only reason needed to make a change now.

Yes cos Kent Kingsley and Craig Biddiscombe were such excellent pick ups for us from the Cats..

Probably because neither of them were any good and neither played in this successful Geelong team either. What's your point?

Can't win a final against ninth, yet people seem to think we are half a chance to win the flag.
It's nice to dream, but come on.

In regards to Chapman. Nope. One more year in him. Will be GWS bound. Sydney or Carlton with a slight chance to nab him.

Well the hawks can't beat 7th so why did they win the premiership?

I'm very keen on him. Potentially has two years left, we'll get him for free and he won't have very high salary demands.

He's one of the great goal converters and would be great to have around the club for developing players.

I'm all for him coming in. Would be nice to offer him a year or 2 and then lock him in as a coach. Not sure if he has ever stated his desire to coach, but I think he is a great player and showed just a few weeks back that he still can play.

Yep for me. No brainer.
Possibly as an assistant coach also.
I'm not big on bringing in veterans like that but I think chappy is an exception.

He'd be on the veterans list wouldn't he? So the AFL pays $100K of his salary. Could mean the Tigs are only forking out 150-200K... comes as a free agent... NO BRAINER.

only for 1 club players. look if we gave him 300 a year I would take him, but would have to free some space in the cap- see you players like mguane etc

Don't think he wants to play on for the money. Absolute gun at his peak and a big game performer.

A big yes from me. A massive upgrade on anyone else on our list who plays that postition. If nothing else it would push guys like King, Edwards, Knights, McDonough and O'Hanlon to work their balls off over the pre-season. Could show Martin a thing or two also.

Get it done Tiges and get it done cheap.

Or you could say we won 15 games, beat both grand finalists, finished half a win off 4th, and lost our final narrowly to our bogey side.

Our midfield will be immense next year. Look out if we get Adams.

and we get another classy finisher back in Chris Knights and Liam Mc Bean may crack it for a few games if he bulks up. Is there any way we can get Adams without losing our first round pick?

From a development POV I think he'd be a good addition, perhaps not a frequent player because we're trying (or it seems) to put through some younger kids

A definite yes .. though we will have to get in line ... he will be offered a lot more by other clubs than he will if he does stay at Geelong in the end.

Would be a good post for vote but i suspect it would be 90% in favor.

He has had tight hammies all of his career and apart from this year has managed them and played most games. This year he rushed back from a 3 week injury too soon.

I know we have made a mess of it before recruiting older guys supposedly to top up our side to push into the finals but we have never had one this good who may still have 3 years left. He is still in Geelongs best 4 footballers and the choice to let him go is curious and an admission that they cant win in 2014. To give someone else maybe 15 games they will let go a champion who will play for them for $150,000 if they want.

We have been starved of success for so long we dont have the luxury of passing on a Chapman ... we need to have an impact now!

He could push us into the top 4 ... though the AFL may ship him off to GWS

As much as I love Chappy, and if we got him, I wouldn't be unhappy - BUT in reality he is just 1 bad hammy injury away from retirement.
I'd much rather us have a good crack at getting Col Slyvia. He has at least 4 years left in him, really entering his prime - and away from the shitness of Melbourne, he could become a gun half FWD/Goal Kicking mid IMO...

The experience he'd bring from Geelong would be invaluable to our players. Even if he only played 12-15 games, he'd bring heaps. He always seems to be a general on field for the Cats, very smart footballer. Wouldn't want to pay him heaps, but perhaps a base amount plus performance stuff?

What's the deal with him being a coach/player? Can we pay him as a coach as well as a player?

No thanks..... Should be looking to add to our list for min 5 years. Not 1 and then break down with injury.
Wholeheartedly respect chapman as a player, but not for us. If we were right in our premiership window, then different story

Agreed with that thinking but I'd still take him even if was only for a year. He is/was one of the best players in one of the most successful sides the game has seen. If anything, his experience, leadership and general professionalism is exactly what I'd like to see the club bring in. We have a predominantly young and inexperienced core - I can only see benefits in bringing in a player like Chapman who can hopefully help mentor/nurture the players around him even if he is at the club for a year and can teach the guys about the sacrifices needed to become a successful team.

He may take the spot of a younger guy like an O'Hanlon or McDonough next year but the gauntlet should really be that those younger players should force their way into the side on merit. We should be playing our best 22 as often as we can and if Chapman can make our best 22 better then he is worth it IMO - he isn't going to cost much either.
