Chapman will replace Kelly, Wojinski or Lonergan ?

OK. If they drop Lonergan they will be expecting some 'sniping' - maybe even starting it and they know it would be tad unfair on him as he only has the one kidney left.

This is to all the cats fans who say injuries are 'fair game'

possibly the stupidest line of thinking i've ever come across.

Harry Taylor will be the one dropped.
As what happened last year they dropped the less experienced player in Blake for the experienced King so they will go with the most experienced side they can put out there and it can only be between Taylor,Lonergan and Varcoe.

1) Won't be Lonergan as he has kicked more goals than anyone since he came into the side and ya need 2 tall targets upfront

2) Won't be Varcoe as he played probably his best game for Geelong last week in the prelim plus Thompson has already said he will playing and would look like a ******** if he dropped him.

So for me its Taylor although he did a good job on Riewoldt a couple of weeks back he didn't exactly set the world on fire last week and i think the backline can be more than covered with Harley,Scarlett,Mackie and Milburn

What? Don't get your logic? I think it would be Stokes who misses out if they think there could be a bit of Sniping.

Also, i am pretty sure Geelong know what to expect. Players like Hodge, Brown, Crawf and Sewell aren't going to die wondering!:)
Pretty sure they will give everything they have out on the ground:thumbsu:

Stokes most likely. Has been suffering form injuries and thus his form has been poor.

People who say Kelly have no idea.

God, hate to be making the decision at the catters pretty much all those blokes deserve to play but can't fit them in. If you drop harry taylor can you trade him down to the whitten oval so we can send one of Lake or Williams foward next season? :p

He can play forward, is a major part of our midfield rotations and his defensive work is top notch.

I don't disagree. I think he is a very good footballer. However personally I think that he does not have a unique place in that side.

In my opening post I mentioned some of the things that the other players in question bring to the team. I think that they do those things better or as well as anyone else on the list.

I think Kelly is pretty good at those things but there are others that do them better and as a result he isn't as essential.

As for the midfield rotation argument i think Chapman is a more than adequate replacement as a forward who can push into the midfield if required.

GEELONG and former Palmerston utility Mathew Stokes has promised a more focused Cats side for Saturday's AFL Grand Final against Hawthorn.

Geelong won its 23rd game from 24 matches this season when it beat the Western Bulldogs in last Friday's preliminary final.

But while the 29-point win earned them a chance at the club's first back-to-back flags since 1951-52, Stokes said there was room for improvement.

"We struggled a little bit because it was a preliminary final and the Dogs played very well," he said.

"We probably didn't handle the way the game was played too well, but the good thing about our team is we don't always have to be on our game 100 per cent to win."

"You just have to find a way to win and that's what we did."

"This week we know it's the biggest game of the season and there is no tomorrow."

"I think you'll see a lot better Geelong side out there this week."

Stokes said the players were a lot more relaxed and calmer than 12 months ago when the Cats were preparing for their first grand final since 1995.

"Last year we were going into the unknown and didn't know what to expect," he said.

"But this time we know the preparation required, the quality of the opposition and what is at stake so things are a lot calmer around the club."

Stokes is confident he will line up on Saturday despite one player from the 22 having to make way for comeback Cat Paul Chapman.

"I'd say I'll be there, but we won't know until later in the week," he said.

Another product of the NT Thunder underage program, Stokes played his 50th AFL game against St Kilda in the qualifying final.

It was a milestone he noted before taking the next step towards something he wants as badly as another premiership medallion - 100 games.

"I didn't look too much into the 50th even though it was a milestone I never thought I'd never get to a couple of years ago," he said.

"It was just another game and it was good to reach, but I'm looking a lot more towards my 100th game."

Gah now I have no idea!

I'm not so sure they would want to risk Chappy playing midfield.

Chapman will replace Stokes

i guess its just down to out of form....very unlucky

The whisper is in overdrive in Geelong now!!! heading up ryrie st like the plague

Reading this thread just proves how little non-Geelong supporters know about our club and players.

Who do you think will get dropped?

I'm not so sure they would want to risk Chappy playing midfield.

Why?
If he is out there he is fully fit.
I don't think it is essential, in fact he probably wont go in but he can if required.

As if Kelly would be dropped. He lays so many tackles and is great in the contest and at delivering to Geelong's forwards.

Like most people I'd say it is Stokes. Chapman can do a similar job but is also bigger and can do a much better job when thrown in the midfield. IMO he is just a smarter footballer as well.

He is in the mix.
In eventuality he probably wont. It would be a huge call. however if I was coach I would be giving it serious consideration.

Every week at uni I sit around with my mates and we discuss footy and random issues in the game at the moment. We talked for ages about this. Now these guys know their footy, we watch, talk, read and play the game a great deal, one is a cats supporter and he 100% agree with me.

I just think he is a little underdone and dropping another player would imbalance the side more that dropping Kelly would.

I doubt it Yarbs. He did an ok job on Johnson last Friday. Also, all the news coming out of Geelong and from mates on text is Stokes is out. Obviously it hasn't been confirmed as the above posts indicate but where there's smoke there is usually fire.

MIght be some truth in your statement! Apparently the player dropped has already been told but won't be made public until team selection!

Completely different teams. Bulldogs have very few talls to worry about while the Hawks rely a lot on their tall forwards. I think Taylor had a good game last time they met.

It's not that hard to get a rumor started. Someone tells someone that Stokes is out it continues along until it is fact.
