So any tips re: organizing a trip like this? I've been overseas alot, but always with parents and when I was much younger. This will be the first international trip i'll be organising. Go to travel agent, get an afl package? Thoughts?

I've done a lot of travel across the world and have never had any issues doing it all myself. Even managed to book flights with random airlines like Lao Air online.

I was planning on going to Japan next year. Perhaps this could be the beginning or end of the trip.

A good travel agent is a boon when going somewhere you haven't been before.

The packages look alright to me. They all include your visa so no chance of missing out on that. The agent looks to be a specialist in China tours.

How many live in Australia?Twenty four million roughly. How many live in Shanghai/Twenty four million or so. Wow!
Or as one of our major sponsors would put it, Four 'n Twenty million.

Just watched the announcement, well done to all those who got this over the line.

EDIT: Special thanks to Lockhart Road

It will come down to either buying a package, where they would look after visa application, flights, etc.. or to do it yourself (my preferred option). Need to consider, what else you want to see in China > Flights

Booking direct on their site (my preferred option) or via Travel Agent, Flight Centre, Webjet, Expedia, etc.

Cathay Pacific (via Hong Kong)
Singapore Airlines (via Singapore)
Malaysian Airlines (via Kuala Lumpur)
Qantas (via Sydney?? then Singapore?)
China Eastern (via Melbourne??, Sydney??)
China Southern (via Melbourne??, Sydney??)

> Visa application (http://www.visaforchina.org/MEL_EN/) > Accomodation > Travel Insurance, etc.

Ol' Gill is quite uninspiring, isn't he?
He is a middle class white male, he doesn't really need to do anything to be acceptable.

Power Raid what can you tell us about these guys - and would they get a benefit out of becoming a normal sponsor of Port - ie one level down from Major sponsorship??

Supporting the game will be moves by key partners to strengthen ties to Australia’s primary trading partner. The Ausgold Mining Group – a gold and copper-ore mining exploration and development company with interests in Western Australia, Queensland and Broken Hill – is the official game day partner for the match.

Port Adelaide chairman David Koch said the success of the foray is the result of a two-year target to play premiership season football in China, as well as a longer strategy to establish a footprint in Australia’s northern neighbour.Playing in China is expected to open new commercial opportunities for the Power as it helps expand the global footprint of Australian football through game participation in addition to an annual match. That financial opportunity is something that the Power has identified as key to growing into one of the southern hemisphere’s premier sports clubs.

Just book a flight and a hotel online mate, then sort your visa. This 'event' will be a drop in the ocean for Shanghai.
It's a modern, safe and easy city to navigate.

As Paul Keating would say ( and I quoted on page 67 of this thread) - we are on the big canvas painting the big picture, so we might splash a bit of paint around.

Edit this is the full Keating quote from December 1986 and I think others are like still on the charcoal sketch - Mr Keating. "I'm still on the big canvas, painting the big picture and I may splash a bit of paint but Mr Howard hasn't got off the charcoal sketch."

“The AFL will become the first elite foreign competition to play a regular season game for points in China, beating the likes of the NBA, English Premier League, Major League Baseball and NFL. That is a monumental achievement in itself and speaks volumes of the strength of the relationship between our two nations.

“This is so much more significant that just playing a game for premiership points on foreign soil. This is a landmark moment in the development of Australia’s sporting, cultural, political, economic and tourism ties with China.

What are the dimensions of the ground to compared to Adelaide Oval?
I put it up before in this thread so do a search but its 330m long so they will make it as long as we want which will probably be AO length. I cant remember the width.

Hey, Lockhart Road, are you privy to any details around the pre-, intra- and post-match events/activities? Will it be exactly like a game in Australia or will it be somewhat tailored to Chinese culture? From your updates over the last year or so cultural awareness has been a key priority in the planning and negotiations.
I only ask as the recent ice hockey tour of Australia with some token NHL'ers was a carbon copy of an NHL game and some of it seemed a little cringy.

Congratulations and thank you for all the time you've put in to help get this off the ground.

Approximately 750 dollars return ex Adelaide if you make the call early. Singapore Airlines. If you happen to be around Bangkok at the time or Singapore then AirAsia or Tiger are looking at a couple of hundred return.

Well done Lockhart Road and all associated people for working so hard on this and other things to come. :)

I don't think many people will realise what LR and his life long friends have done for this club in the past few years, Kudos to you Gentlemen.

I have been in touch in the past week with Your World Jetty / Gordon Glenelg more than happy with their response
( Hope its ok to mention this agent been with them for years)

Welldone PAFC, huge news and a great day for footy in general.

Will both teams get a Bye before or after the game? As isn't it an 8 hour flight to Shanghai? Probably a bye after would be better for the players.
