It's looking like we'll probably struggle in the finals again this year. But this year injuries will be an excuse (and a reason) especially if Selwood is out.
Unless we get blown away at the start of one we can't really assess if CS has learnt anything or not.
Probably gonna have to wait till the end of 2018 to see where he's really at unfortunately.
Take positives out of this year like playing debutants and building our depth.
Hopefully Selwood and Danger have still got it in them next year to keep shouldering the bulk of the load.

I'm starting to think that it's just a numbers game.

Get bums on seats and membership figures high enough and Scott is set.

We could finish last with zero wins, but as long as the club's making a nice profit they'll keep him around.

All he has to do it recruit a big name every couple of years and the stands will be packed.

He'll be around for another 10 years.

Should of been sacked two years ago. We no longer play like a geelong football side and are only getting good home and away results cos we topped up at the expense of the future.

Scotts results are amazing when you consider the lack of draft picks, injuries and players lost while he has been our coach .

He has had the toughest coaching job in the AFL and done an amazing job.

Some of you really need to understand the following

This is an 18 team competition and everyone is trying to win a premiership but only 1 will , this is not an easy task . You don't go from 3rd,4th,5th or 6th by simply sacking the coach .

If a coach learns something from a bad loss and makes changes to structure and style to prevent the same from happening when next the sides meet, then win lose or draw you would at least retain faith in where things are heading. What did Clarkson learn from Easter Monday? Plenty. It was a completely different Hawthorn unit next time around.

What did Scott learn from being taken to the cleaners by Sydney in the 1st quarter of last year's final? Nothing. It was like Groundhog Day last night, and that's the most annoying thing.

Don't be stupid mate, geelong_crazy26 won't find that easy to discuss, we'll cop the usual clip of the 2010 prelim and get told how Scott managed to turn it all around.

With the players Geelong has lost , the problems with injuries we have had and the lack of early draft picks we have had since Scott became coach he has done amazingly well .

are you sure we had exactly the same game plan ? lets be honest its very hard to identify small changes to a sides game plan .

He's H&A results are amazing considering all the things you just said.
He certainly hasn't had the toughest gig though. Inherited Selwood Hawkins and Taylor in their prime, had a solid mature backline to work with during his whole tenure and most importantly came into a well run and stable club that has had the means to attract some handy inclusions.
I thought Leppitsch had the toughest gig considering the club, list and resources.
Also Ken Hinkley. Port were a dead set rabble on and off the field. No fans, tarps, no money, struggling playing group.
Remember Gary Lyon saying when Hinkley started "Who would want to let their son be drafted to Port Adelaide "
They were in far more of a mess than I've ever seen Geelong be in. Even counting the mid 2000's.

Not so.
We started well, first 2 scores.
Their first 3 goals directly from frees.
And they scored from their backsides several times.
We performed better with a grossly substandard list.
2/3 Q's we actually beat them.

“Geelong has gone from a team quality of 7.5 points above the AFL average against Carlton in Round 19, to a team quality of two points below the AFL average against Sydney tonight – their lowest rating for the season,” Champion Data analyst Daniel Hoyne said.

In fact, it’s the first time in two years Geelong’s selected team has been below the AFL average.

Sydney’s team, on the other hand, is more than 20 points above the AFL average. On paper, the Swans are starting almost four goals ahead of the Cats.
But by all means, carry on with the #derp

Obviously, but I'm interested in people's opinions on who that would be......
Not as head coaches, but I'd throw absolutely everything we had at getting McCartney back at the club. Everything.
I would really like us to do what it takes to get Hodge also.
As far as CS goes I can't think of anyone unless we magically got Clarkson.

So, for you, CS stays unless we get Clarkson.......just new assistants?

Obviously I have no say whatsoever, but if it were my choice he'd stay till the end of 2018 then reassess.
IMO he really needs to make a GF in 2017/2018 to justify the picks we've used on bringing in mature talent.
Otherwise what was the point in doing it
